What would the world be without rivalries? Pretty boring—we'd miss out on epic clashes between the Red Sox and Yankees, and the Celtics and Lakes (in years past). Perhaps more akin to Godzilla versus Kong, however, we have Amazon and Walmart duking it out in the online shopping space, and both are accelerating shipments of products into the home. It started with Amazon last month announcing an aggressive expansion of its free shipping perk for Prime membership—it's evolving from free two-day shipping on millions of qualifying items to just one day. Folks who live in certain areas already enjoy the expedited shipping time, and Amazon is investing $800 million of "incremental spend"... Read more...
It seems that everyone wants in on the game streaming market of late. Reports have indicated that Verizon wants into the game streaming segment, as does Amazon. Start-ups like VectorDash have announced game streaming services that leverage unused GPU power from crypto-mining rigs recently as well. And of course Google unveiled plans for its Stadia game streaming at GDC 2019 this week. Today, a new report claims that retail giant Walmart is looking at getting into game streaming as well. The report comes from USGamer, claiming that multiple sources familiar with Walmart's plans have noted that the retail giant is looking into its own streaming game platform. The unnamed sources... Walmart has some alternatives to the deals that we talked about over the weekend on Amazon streaming devices. The deals that Walmart is promoting include the Google Smart TV Kit for $49, which is a $25 discount off the regular $74 price for the bundle. What the package offers is a Google Home Mini and a Chromecast; Walmart says this bundle is exclusive to its stores. Most are probably familiar with what Chromecast has to offer; it lets you stream content to your TV from Netflix, Vudu, and other sources. Now is an excellent time to add more Google Home Mini devices to your home with Walmart offering a 2-pack of the small AI assistants for $50; that is a $38 discount off the usual $78 price for... We've seen a bunch of smokin' Black Friday deals that are available right now at various retailers. If what you are hankering to buy is a game console, and you would rather not wake up in the middle of the night and schlep down to Kohl's for a $399 Xbox One X, Walmart has some good news for you. The retail giant has activated its Black Friday special on the Xbox One X, and you can buy it right now for $399. That price has been offered at Kohl's, and directly from Microsoft (which is active through November 26). The catch is that you have to wait for shipping at Microsoft. Walmart's sale will allow you to have the 1TB black Xbox One X shipped directly to your door. Walmart will also let you... Read more...
Black Friday is just around the corner and retailers have been releasing “sneak peaks” and ads since October. Walmart recently revealed their own Black Friday ad. The superstore will be offering discounts on items like smart TVs, PC and console gaming gear, Chromebooks, and even a PS4 Spider-Man bundle.  Smart TVs are one of the hottest commodities this year. Customers will be able to nab a 65" Class 4K Roku Smart TV for $398 USD. The Samsung 32" Class Smart TV will run you $178 ($72 off), while the Samsung 55" Class 4K Smart TV will ring in at $398 ($300 off). The Vizio 60" Class 4K Smart TV will be available for $498 ($100 off). The Samsung 55" Class 4K Smart TV If you are... Read more...
Google just can't seem to keep a handle on all the leaks surrounding its upcoming October 9thhardware event. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have leaked so much that about the only thing that remains a mastery are the flagship Android Pie phones' price tags. Likewise, the third-generation Chromecast made an early appearance last week when a Best Buy employee sold the unreleased product to a customer (who of course posted about it online). Now, another retailer worker has leaked the next-generation Google Smart TV Kit. The bundle includes both a Google Home Mini and the third-generation Chromecast that we've already seen. Given that there is already a Smart TV Kit on sale as a Walmart-exclusive,... Read more...
Virtual reality headsets are changing the way people play games and, as we have found out over the years, companies are using them to train their employees and augment their workflow. While the adoption amongst gamers has been slow for VR headsets, the biggest brick and mortar retailer out there, Walmart, is now adopting VR to help it to train new workers. Walmart is using the Oculus Go, and every store the chain operates is now using the headsets. This gives more than a million Walmart associates access to the VR headset for training. This could be a good thing for VR headset makers as well, as the Walmart workers see what VR can do in the workplace, they might be more likely to pick up a VR... Read more...
Someone on Walmart's web team in Canada seems to have screwed the pooch and revealed a massive number of unreleased and, in some cases, unannounced games, many of which are expected to make a debut at E3 next month. Whether all of the listings are real or not remains to be seen, though judging by some of the responses by game developers affected by the leak, at least some of them appear to be legitimate. Click to Enlarge There are several notable games in the leak, including Just Cause 3, Gears of War 5, Rage 2, to name just a few. There is no box art, which indicates that these are placeholders to be filled in at a later date. Walmart has since removed the listings, though not before Twitter... Read more...
In the summer of 2017, Amazon announced that it would offer a low-cost version of its extremely popular Prime membership program for customers on government assistance programs. The program was offered to U.S. residents with a valid EBT card, which is used by people on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program (WIC), for example. Today, Amazon announced that it is extending its discounted Prime memberships to Medicaid recipients, which is the latest tool in its arsenal to battle low-priced retailers like Walmart. Medicaid is yet another government program that provides assistance to low-income Americans, and to qualify for a discounted... Read more...
If you've been eying the Xbox One X gaming console and haven't yet had the guts to pull the trigger, Walmart is hoping to give you some extra incentive with a new bundle offer. While you're still paying the same $499 price (which is the MSRP for the Xbox One X), you'll also receive the following games: Grand Theft Auto V Star Wars: Battlefront II Destiny 2 When it comes to the above titles, Grand Theft Auto V is getting a bit long in the tooth, after all, it was first released back in November 2014. However, Rockstar keeps things fresh with constant updates via Grand Theft Auto Online, which is the game's multiplayer component. As for Destiny 2 and Star Wars: Battlefront II, both games were released... Read more...
Today is Cyber Monday, the online equivalent of last week's Black Friday. For all the folks who couldn't be bothered with getting out in the crowds, it’s time to start crackin' online. Walmart has announced that its Cyber Monday sale kicked off at midnight and is going right now. There are some good deals to be had on electronics and gaming devices with this sale. Perhaps the most interesting is that Walmart has the PS4 Pro on sale for $349. This is the same price other retailers were offering on Black Friday so if you missed out in store, you can possibly land the deal online now. Walmart is offering a standard PS4 Slim 1TB console for $199, which is a price we have seen at multiple... Read more...
Today is Black Friday and if you are braving the crowds looking for some smoking deals on tech products, you will want to check out Walmart. The retail giant has some smoking deals on various models of iPhones for Black Friday. The retailer is offering a whopping $300 gift card on iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones. Buy any of those devices for $0 down and get a $300 gift card that you can use in store. The Black Friday ads keep rolling in, giving you plenty of time to formulate a shopping strategy. One of the newest ads to land is from Walmart. The massive retail chain will have discounts on a wide assortment of items, including some nice deals on 4K resolution televisions, and game consoles such as Microsoft's Xbox One S and Sony's PlayStation 4. Sadly, Nintendo's Switch will not be marked down, but it will be in stock, at least initially. If you're after a 4K TV, one of the better deals is a Sharp 55-inch 4K Smart TV (LC-55P6000U) with high dynamic range (HDR) support for just $298. Walmart will also have a Samsung 40-inch 4K TV (40MU6290) with HDR support for $328, along with a handful of... Read more...
This is the time of year when families and friends get together to feast on turkey and fixings, and score deals in technology (and other categories). We are exactly three weeks away from the madness that is known as Black Friday, and retailers have started posting ads outlining upcoming bargains. Two of the newest ads are from Walmart and Costco, both of which will have several deals on Xbox One S and PlayStation 4 systems. Walmart Starting with Walmart, flipping through the flyer we see a PlayStation 4 Slim bundle with a 500GB of storage and Uncharted 4 for $249. It also comes with a $30 gift card. Not too shabby. Walmart will also have several games marked down to $27 each, compared to their... Read more...
Today marks Nintendo's launch of the highly anticipated SNES Classic Edition, which interestingly has the same hardware inside as the NES Classic Edition that came before it. This scaled down console brings 21 retro video games that many gamers grew up on and crams them into one package with no need to sling cartridges like back in the day. Nintendo has promised higher production levels of the SNES classic than the previous retro NES offering that was so hard to find. More production doesn't necessarily mean that the new console will be easy to find. We are going to run down all the places you can get one (or at least try to get one) today. Note that just about every electronics retailer out... Read more...
In case you haven’t yet realized, Nintendo SNES Classic pre-orders are well under way. However, retailers have been opting for rather sneaky methods to trickle projected inventory into the hands of customers, instead of past (and well proven) methods. Take Walmart, for example. After throwing a wet blanket on eager retro gamers last month when it said that its SNES Classic pre-orders went live as a result of a website glitch, the company on Friday once again opened up sales to the public. However, Walmart decided to use a rather curious name for the product listing to confuse bots that would automatically raid available pre-order slots for resale purposes. In Walmart’s case, this separate listing... Read more...
Google is trying to form a super team in the online shopping space, one that could be considered the Golden State Warriors of e-commerce. In that regard, Google is teaming up with Walmart—the equivalent of adding Kevin Durant to an already stacked squad—to take on Amazon and its Prime shipping service, or LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, if we are to keep this analogy going. Beginning in September, customers will be able to place orders with Walmart via Google Express, Google's e-commerce platform. Buyers will have the option of placing orders through the Google Express mobile app, on the web at the Google Express website, or by voice through devices such as the Google Home smart speaker... As if the Nintendo Switch wasn’t already hard enough to come by months after its official North American launch, there’s a new SKU that will soon be arriving in the United States. Joining the existing grey and neon red/neon blue Nintendo Switch consoles editions will be a new Splatoon 2 Bundle. We first learned about the Nintendo Switch Splatoon 2 bundle in May, but at the time it was only earmarked for Europe and Japan. However, the bundle will arrive in the United States on September 8th complete with the exclusive neon green/neon pink Joy-Con controllers. As you might expect, the bundle comes with a full copy of the highly acclaimed Splatoon 2, and will also include a Splatoon 2-themed carrying... Read more...
It’s official; if you managed to somehow be awake Friday night to get in on Walmart’s pre-order madness for the Nintendo SNES Classic, your celebratory dance is about to turn into misery. We initially thought that Walmart was randomly canceling pre-orders that went through, but the company just sent out a mass email saying that all orders are being canceled. Talk about a slap in the face. While some customers received “unofficial” confirmation of mass cancellations from various Walmart team members from online chat sessions over the past few days, this email represents the official corporate line from Walmart. In the email, the company says: Unfortunately, due to a technical glitch, the... Read more...
If you pre-ordered an SNES Classic game console from Walmart last week, your order may have been cancelled. There have been a lot of rumors flying around out there about why exactly the orders were cancelled. According to comments over at Nowinstock, multiple pre-order buyers are confirming their orders were cancelled. Reports indicate that the cancellations weren't because Walmart oversold their SNES Classic allotment. That is good news in a way, because it means those of you with cancelled orders still have a chance. The reason your order was cancelled wasn't due to a payment issue either. Orders were cancelled because the person in charge of the "Go" button over at Walmart pressed... Read more...
Walmart is working on the perfect product for people who hate shopping in stores. A recent patent filing revealed that Walmart is currently developing a device that resembles the Amazon Dash Button. The main difference? Users would not even need to press a button in order to reorder their needed item. Walmart’s system would integrate the IoT in order to determine whether an item needs to be replenished. The device would then automatically reorder or upgrade commonly used items. According to the patent, they would incorporate, “a subscription device that associates tags with items, a tag tracking device for collecting data on the tags associated with items, and a management system that monitors... Walmart is ending a free two-day shipping program it was piloting called ShippingPass, one that was intended to compete with Amazon's Prime service, though that's actually good news for customers. Instead of charging $49 per year for the benefit of expedited shipping on online orders, the company has chosen to offer free two-day shipping to home and stores on millions of items without a membership fee. The caveat is that there is a minimum purchase required for free shipping to homes, which Walmart lowered from $50 to $35. Subscribers to Amazon Prime do not have to worry about making a minimum order—if all a customer wants is a $5 item shipped in two days to their house, Amazon will happily oblige.... Read more...
