The Nintendo Switch Lite was just released this past Friday, and it's already a pretty nice bargain compared to the original Switch. The original Nintendo Switch is priced at $299, while its "Lite" counterpart comes in at only $199. However, a new deal today over at Rakuten (via seller GamerCandy) has the console for $199 -- its regular price -- but you can add the coupon code "SAVE15" at checkout to take 15 percent off the price. That brings your total down to $169 with free shipping and no tax (depending on what state you live in). The new Nintendo Switch Lite has a 5.5-inch display compared to 6.2 inches on its bigger brother and it weighs in at just 0.61 pounds. It's smaller in... Read more...
Another ROM site is facing legal action from Nintendo, which is suing over "brazen and mass scale infringement" of its intellectual property (IP) rights. Filed by Nintendo of America, the lawsuit alleges the ROM site served up hundreds of thousands of illegal copies of Switch games, and half a billion 3DS games. "Defendants reproduce, distribute, monetize, and offer for download thousands of unauthorized copeis of Nintendo's video games. This includes games for nearly every video game system Nintendo has ever produced including hundreds of games for its recently released Nintendo Switch," the lawsuit states. The site is ROMUniverse, and according to the lawsuit, it offers a premium membership... Read more...
You all had better watch out, because Blizzard is bringing its top team shooter over to the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo's September 4th Direct broadcast opened with the news, in fact. After previous leaks and whispers of a potential Overwatch Switch port -- especially after an Overwatch-themed Switch case briefly appeared online -- a port seemed inevitable, if slightly late. Now that Overwatch Switch is just around the corner, what kind of performance can we expect? The same day of the Direct reveal, Blizzard employee Nazih Fares took to Twitter to provide the performance information. Overwatch on Nintendo Switch targets a stable 30 FPS in both docked and portable modes, and plays... Read more...
Nintendo has already brought somewhat of a VR experience to its Switch console with the Labo VR kit (as shown above), but if you are hoping for a somewhat better implementation, you might be in luck. Well, maybe. A recently published patent design by Nintendo shows a design for a VR accessory that appears to slightly different than the Labo VR kit. It's also somewhat similar. Nintendo applied for the patent in February 2018, and it was published on August 22, 2019. The patent application describes a "3D image display system and 3D image display device," and there are accompanying design images. Here's a look at some... The images above depict a design whereby the user does not strap the VR accessory... Read more...
Nintendo has filed a patent that turned up in a patent database in Japan, for new Joy-Con controllers that might make it much more comfortable to game on the go or at home. The new controllers are hinged, and the front section can fold down to make the typically flat controllers more ergonomic and comfortable to grip and control. The patent art shows controllers where the left side folds below the thumbstick in the top section, and the right side folds just below the buttons. The patent indicates that the controller could be folded that way when attached to the Switch console or when removed. It appears that about three-fourths of the folding section moves while the other fourth of the section... Read more...
Nintendo Switch fans who have been waiting to play some of the old-school Super NES games on the Switch have to wait no more. Nintendo has made the first 20 SNES games live on the Switch console. As exciting as the first 20 games are, the launch of those titles also brings a bit of bad news. Nintendo has confirmed that while more SNES games will be coming to the Switch in the future, the new launches won't be on a regular schedule. No schedule is a change compared to how Nintendo operated when it added the NES games to the Switch with a few coming every month. Making things even worse for fans is that the NES monthly schedule is now out the door as well. Currently, there are about 50 NES games... Read more...
There has been a rumor that Overwatch would be heading to the Switch, and during the recent Nintendo Direct broadcast, it was confirmed to be true. Overwatch Legendary Edition is in fact bound for the Switch, arriving on the hybrid game console on October 15 in North America. Eager fans can preorder the game now. "Become the vibrant, powerful heroes of Overwatch! Line up the perfect shot using Nintendo Switch’s built-in gyroscopic motion controls, or engage the opposing team with the analog control sticks," Nintendo says. Switch players will be able to hop in and have access to 31 heroes on 28 maps. But it is the motion controls that could potentially set the Overwatch experience on the... Read more...
Sometimes games that are classics in other countries aren't titles we ever get to play here in America. One of the games that launched over two decades ago was promised for the States and never came here is an RPG from a company called Onion Games, and it is called moon. This time around, the game is being ported to the popular Nintendo Switch platform. The game is hailed as a sort of anti-RPG looking at themes in many RPG games like stealing supplies from strangers and killing animals for XP. The original launch for the game was 22 years ago on the original PlayStation. Over the years since that launch, English translations of the game have started and stopped for various reasons.... There is reason to believe Blizzard Entertainment may be prepping a port of Overwatch over to the Nintendo Switch, and soon. Otherwise, the recent discovery of a short-lived listing on Amazon for an Overwatched-themed case for the Switch makes little sense, especially if, as the listing claimed, it's a licensed product. Nothing has been confirmed, but according to the listing (which has since been yanked offline), the case sports the following features... Sturdy outer shell with rubberized handle and durable dual zipper pulls Molded interior fits Console in handheld mode, and features felt lining plus zippered mesh storage Built-in padded screen-protector flap includes storage for nine game cards... Microsoft has recently been playing nice with other game consoles to some extent. The software giant had announced that it would publish the game Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch. That game was initially an exclusive on the Xbox One and the PC, but Microsoft has stated that it has "no plans" to release more exclusive titles on PS4 or Switch. As for why Microsoft first allowed exclusive games to head to other consoles and then said it would stop, it has to do with its purchasing of developers to add to the Xbox Creative team. Microsoft points out that as the new devs were purchased and brought in house, it knew that there were some existing commitments to other platforms... Read more...
The next game to come to the Nintendo Switch is going to be a hot one. Many believe that SuperHot will launch on the Nintendo Switch, and the game will likely be announced tomorrow at Nintendo Direct. Dataminers were the first to find information about the upcoming release. “SimonTimer” discovered that SuperHot for the Nintendo Switch had received an update on Friday, August 16th. However, the game is not currently available on that console. Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad also insisted that SuperHot is coming to the Nintendo Switch, stating on Twitter that “So far we've had...Cuphead and Super Lucky's Tale that have been Xbox exclusives come to Switch.” Nintendo will shadow... You might be kicking yourself for having recently purchased a Nintendo Switch console, only to find out Nintendo is now shipping revised models with longer battery life. D'oh! The easiest solution is to return your Switch and purchase a newer SKU, but if a retailer is giving you grief, Nintendo may lend a helping hand. Users on Reddit report being able to exchange a recently purchased Switch console based on the 'old' hardware with a new model, free of charge. "Called to ask about the possibility of sending in my launch day Switch to get the battery upgraded (long shot of course) and they said they could only exchange for the new model if it was purchased after July 17th. They also told me it... Read more...
If you have an original Nintendo Switch, now might be the opportune time to upgrade to a new upgraded model. The folks over at GameStop are running an enticing trade-in offer on the original Nintendo Switch, which will get you an additional $25 bonus added on to the console's trade-in value. Usually, GameStop will offer $200 if you trade-in a Nintendo Switch in working condition. However, that value is boosted to $225 with its limited-time promotion (which runs through September 15th). So, if your Nintendo Switch is looking a little worse for the wear (and is still working), you can take that $225 and put it towards the revised model which is priced at the same $300 as the original, bringing... Having trouble convincing your console brothers and sisters how easy and rewarding it can be to assemble a PC? Find new friends! Just kidding (maybe). Rather than kick your console friends and family members to the curb, let them know that PC Building Simulator is now available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. That's right, the PC building sim has expanded its reach to all three major modern consoles, so even your controller-wielding buddies can assemble a faux PC. PC vs Console? Why should you have to choose! PC Building Simulator is now available on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch! pic.twitter.com/7Mfi96u4yM — PC Building Simulator (@PCBuildingSim) August 13, 2019... You never know what you might find when poking around the Internet. Case in point, a new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing by Nintendo appears to suggest that old school SNES games could be headed to the Switch Online service, where several original NES already live. Wouldn't that be neat? Nintendo has found numerous business opportunities with its retro game consoles and titles from yesteryear. Its NES Classic edition console was a breakout hit, followed by the SNES Classic. Now with the Switch and the accompanying online service, emulating old games is way to draw more players into ponying up for a subscription. Source: Nintendo (via FCC) So, where does the SNES come into play?... Read more...
Nintendo over the past month has released two new gaming consoles: the all-new Nintendo Switch Lite and a revised version of the original Nintendo Switch. The Switch Lite is a smaller and lighter console with fixed controllers, while the revised "standard" Switch looks largely the same as the original, but features vastly improved battery life. We're now learning thanks to a new report that these new Switch consoles may be benefiting from a previously undisclosed hardware upgrade. According to The Wall Street Journal, Sharp Executive VP Katsuaki Nomura confirmed that his company is proving indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) display panels to Nintendo for the Switch.  IGZO panels... Nintendo hit a home run with its hybrid Switch console, despite it not rocking the same class of hardware as Son's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One consoles. As companies are prone to do, Nintendo is offering different variants. There is a new Switch Lite console, and a revised version of the original Switch, both of which are internally exposed in a couple of FCC listings. These listings are teardowns of sorts, in the sense that we get to see some of the innards. These listings primarily focus on the wireless hardware, but we also get a glimpse of part of the PCB and several components. There are also shots of the undercarriage, with the bottom panel removed. Here's a look at the inside... Read more...
The Nintendo Switch is an excellent game console, one that is uniquely flexible for playing games on your big screen TV or in portable form. If you happen to own one of the earlier models, it is also hackable. Now thanks to Switchroot, a group for open source development on the Switch, the nifty console can be modded with an Android port, which in turn opens the door for GeForce NOW support. This is a very specific hack, though. NVIDIA's Tegra X1 system-on-chip (SoC) powers the Switch, a previous version of which contained a hardware vulnerability. While technically a potential security vulnerability, the flaw can be exploited to install emulators and unauthorized software. The caveat is that... Read more...
Some Nintendo Switch owners have been having a hard time with their Joy-Con controllers due to an issue described as "controller drift." The drift phenomena is where the controllers sense movement, and make characters on-screen move, even when the analog sticks aren't being touched. A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Nintendo over the issue in America. Nintendo vowed this week to fix any Joy-Con drift issues free of charge, but reports indicate that Nintendo U.K. isn't playing ball. There has been no change in policy inside the U.K. when it comes to repairing Joy-Con controllers suffering from the drift issue. Reports from Switch users in the U.K. have included screenshots of chat... Read more...
Nintendo wants to keep gamers happy, and it is trying to fix issues that some gamers are seeing with their Joy-Con controllers for the Nintendo Switch game console. The problem is known as Joy-Con drift and is when the controllers sense input and move the character on-screen without anyone actually touching the controllers themselves. The issue is widespread enough that a class-action lawsuit was filed against Nintendo. Nintendo has now vowed to fix any Joy-Con drift issues for free. Vice has seen an internal Nintendo memo that tells customer service agents to fix any Joy-Con controllers with drift issues at no cost. Nintendo has also said that any Switch owner who was charged for Joy-Con repairs... Read more...
Nintendo was hit with a class-action lawsuit recently that focuses on the issues that have surfaced with the Joy-Con controllers that some Switch gamers have suffered through since the console launched. Joy-Con drift is when the thumb sticks sense movement when they aren't actively being touched, making it difficult or impossible to play games on the console. Nintendo has now issued a statement that advises Switch gamers who are experiencing Joy-Con drift to visit its customer support website. Nintendo says that it takes great pride in creating quality products and that it is continually making improvements in its products. The gaming company says that it is aware of reports that some Joy-Con... Read more...
Origin PC has finally unleashed the successor to its original "Big O" gaming machine that debuted way back in 2010. While the original Big O combined a high-end gaming PC with the internals of an Xbox 360 gaming console, the new 2019 edition of the Big O is a much more ambitious design and was built to celebrate Origin PC’s 10th anniversary. The new Big O combines a badass gaming PC with the internals from an Xbox One X and a PlayStation 4 Pro. In addition, there's also a slot incorporated into the chassis to slide in a Nintendo Switch to complete the console gaming trifecta. The donor Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro are removed from their plastic enclosures and mounted vertically... Read more...
