The Nintendo Switch has been around for a few years and has proven to be a very popular console with gamers. However, some gamers have had an issue with the Nintendo Switch thumb joystick on the removable Joy-Con controllers, which will register movement even when they aren't being touched. This phenomenon has been dubbed "Switch Joy-Con drift," and a law firm is looking at filing a class action suit over the issue. The law firm reportedly preparing to sue Nintendo is called Chimicles, Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith. The law firm is asking anyone who owns a Switch to fill out a contact form to be a part of the suit. There is no guarantee that the lawsuit will move forward right now. The... Read more...
Flying on a cramped commercial aircraft can be quite the ordeal for a lot of people out there. To help get through the flight, many take notebooks, tablets, smartphones, or portable game consoles like the Nintendo Switch with them. Southwest Airlines and Nintendo did something very cool for passengers aboard a random flight this week. Each of the passengers on the flight were handed cards telling them they received a free Nintendo Switch game console and a copy of Super Mario Maker 2 thanks to Southwest and Nintendo. That is a $300 freebie for happening to be on the right flight at the right time, and probably made more than a few people's days. What's even cooler is when they got off the aircraft... Read more...
Super Mario Maker 2 launched not long ago, and fans of the game have been building some crazy levels to challenge other players. The big draw for most people is the custom levels, and recently an incredibly difficult level has been shared with the creator giving us a nice walkthrough of the spinning flames of death. The level uses the really old school, early Mario graphics, and sounds for a retro feel. It has fire ropes swinging around from everywhere, and in some spots, it seems as if it is impossible to pass. The player jumps onto boxes floating in the air, and leaps over fire ropes as they swing. At some points, the player has to move backward at just the right time to avoid immediate death.... Last week, Nintendo announced the Switch Lite, which is a smaller, more durable, and cheaper portable gaming console priced at just $199. Today, Nintendo has revealed another new member of the family: a refreshed version of the original Switch. Nintendo doesn’t specifically call out what internal changes have been made, but it notes that the new and improved Switch has runtimes that increase from between 2.5 to 6.5 hours to a more impressive 4.5 to 9 hours. That’s a rather dramatic uplift for a gaming system that is primarily used on-the-go, and one that will be highly appreciated by gamers. For reference, the new Nintendo Switch Lite has battery life rated between 3 to 7 hours.... Read more...
Nintendo recently unveiled the long-rumored Nintendo Switch Lite game console. Rumors have also swirled that Nintendo was working on an updated original Switch game console and new FCC filings have surfaced that seem to confirm that update. The FCC filing shows that the Switch is getting a new SoC and a change in NAND memory type. The form that Nintendo submitted to the FCC is called a "Class II Permission Change." That is a form that asks for permission to change components of the game console without having to submit the entire console for recertification. The filing doesn't shed any light on which SoC and what sort of memory change Nintendo has planned for the Switch. Certainly what Nintendo... Read more...
Nintendo Switch owners are having an absolute blast playing Super Mario Maker 2, the hottest new game that was recently made available exclusively for the hybrid console. It features new tools and items that were not available in the first iteration of the game for the Wii U, including a the ability to create slopes for the first time. But having access to new goodies is not the sole reason why it is so popular, leading to more than 196,000 copies being sold in its first week in Japan. There are a number of factors at play here. Chief among them is the combination of Mario, Nintendo's most iconic character, and the Switch, a console that to some extent defied the odds with lower end hardware... Read more...
WayForward is prepping a new entry in the long-running River City / Kunio-Kun series that will bring old-school, side-scrolling action to a new generation of gamers. Called River City Girls, the new game features a pair of female high school protagonists fighting through six regions of River City. Looking at the trailer, I'm somewhat reminded of the Double Dragon series of yesteryear. In River City Girls, however, Kyoko and Misako are attempting to rescue their kidnapped boyfriends, Kunio and Riki. Players can go at it solo, or enlist a friend for local co-op gameplay. Either way, you will be treated to 16-bit style graphics and an "epic synth-pop soundtrack" featuring NateWantsToBattle, Chipzel,... Read more...
Gamers never really like it when games are exclusive to a specific console. Juggling multiple systems is not only cost prohibitive to many, but it's a tedious task. One of the most appealing new exclusive titles that is coming to the Nintendo Switch is Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. The game is set to launch in July, and at E3 2019, Nintendo has been heavily talking up the game. A huge amount of information about the game has been offered at E3 with videos spanning over an hour. The videos show gameplay and have commentary from one of the game's writers along with comments from members of Marvel Games. The game walkthroughs touch on the roster that players can choose characters... Read more...
Controllers for game consoles or PCs are sort of like shoes in that one type or size doesn't fit everyone. Some folks are perfectly content to game away on their Switch using the Joy-Con controllers that came with the console. Others want to throw those Joy-Cons into the trash the second the console comes out of the box.  One of the many companies out there who make aftermarket game controllers is a Japanese company called Hori. Hori's latest product for the Switch is marketed for use with the game Daemon X Machina and is called the Grip Controller. The controllers look like a full-size controller that has been cut in half. The left side controller has a D-pad, a thumb stick, and a couple... Read more...

Over the past month or so, we've been hearing lots of rumors concerning at least two follow-ups to the Nintendo Switch. Earlier this week, reports indicated that a Nintendo Switch Lite would launch in June with a more attractive price point than the $299 original. Today, however, Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa made it clear that a June launch is out of the question. "We have no plans to announce that at this year's E3 in June," said Furukawa. He also added that "[We are] always working on new hardware and we will announce it when we are able to sell it.” The Nintendo Switch has proven to be popular with gamers, partly due to the fact that it is a hybrid system that allows you... The Nintendo Switch is one of the fastest selling consoles of all time. As of December 2018, Nintendo had sold 32.27 million Switch consoles. Could a successor prove to be just as successful? Rumor has it that Nintendo will release a “lite” version of the Switch by the end of June and a a slightly beefier iteration by the end of 2019. The Nintendo Switch “Lite” will be smaller and less expensive than the current console. It is reportedly aimed at “casual gamers”. The newer Switch would still be able to plug into a television, but it would be more portable. One source hinted that the smaller Switch contains new hardware that is “different from the original”.... Read more...
Nintendo's gamble that gamers would be interested in a hybrid console that both connects to a big screen TV and can be played on the go paid off in a big way. The Switch, despite being relatively under powered compared to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, has proven immensely popular. Surely there will be another iteration at some point, and perhaps two more. According to a Japanese-language report at Nikkei, Nintendo is prepping a more affordable version of the Switch for a release this fall. There are not a ton of details to go on, but the Switch Lite, as we will refer to it, is said to be more compact. The smaller design will up the portability factor, as is the focus, though according to the... Read more...
Nintendo continues to do very well with the Switch console. The console received a Switch Online update in April that added some cool new games to the mix, including Punch-Out and Super Mario Lost Levels. Rumors have also hinted that Nintendo might be getting a 3DS-style redesign with a rugged exterior. Nintendo has now announced that the latest firmware update is out for the Switch and it brings the system software to version 8.0.0. Along with the move to a new whole number increment also comes some new features that Switch fans have wanted for a while now. Perhaps the most noticeable change with the update is enhanced sorting features of the "all software" list. Those games can now be sorted... Read more...

We reported early yesterday that Nintendo is preparing to unleash two new variants of its hugely popular Switch gaming console this summer. The original Nintendo Switch is unique in the fact that it features a hybrid design that allows it to be used as a portable console, or docked for use with a large-screen television. One of the new variants is said to be a slightly more powerful version of the current Nintendo Switch, while the other will be an even lower-priced budget entry. Eurogamer -- which has a long track record of having an inside track on unreleased consoles -- has posted some additional information on the latter model. According to the publication, it... Read more...
Well, this is one spectacular bombshell. Reports are making the rounds that Microsoft and Nintendo are working together bring some Xbox games directly to the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch -- these would be straight ports of existing titles. But that's not all, it appears that the two companies are going all-in with a Project xCloud partnership that would allow Xbox Game Pass subscribers to stream games to a Nintendo Switch. This would allow for truly cross-platform gaming that would be less dependent on tying you into one particular hardware ecosystem, but instead rely on streaming games to a wide variety of devices as long as you have a fast and stable internet connection....
