LG has unveiled a couple of drool-worthy gaming monitors that are sure to garner some attention from enthusiasts around the globe. The new 38GL950G measures 38 inches across and checks off nearly every box when it comes to buzz-worthy features expected today of gaming monitors. Perhaps its most impressive spec is that this is the world's first IPS monitor with a response time of just 1ms (GtG). That puts the panel on level footing with TN panels, which are known for their ultra-fast response times. If that wasn't enough, LG says that the display panel has a maximum (standard) refresh rate of 144Hz, but it can be overclocked to a dizzying 175Hz. The 38GL950G has a resolution of 3840x1600 (21:9... Read more...
If you are looking for a bit more intelligence in your "smart" phone, the LG G8 ThinQ may have a few additional tricks up its sleeve. LG is aiming to create a more intuitive and automated experience by embracing artificial intelligence processing care of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 SoC and their own in-house algorithms. The LG G8 ThinQ is more than just clever silicon and software, of course, and it boasts a premium build quality and expanded camera features to match. Beyond its Snapdragon 855 mobile platform, the G8 ThinQ runs with 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 flash storage. If you record a ton of video or have other significant storage needs, you can also slot in a card like the... Read more...
During CES 2019 there were a bunch of dazzling OLED TVs on display that promised better image quality than the LCD sets that made up most TVs at the show. Sony has now thrown down the gauntlet by announcing pricing for its brand new range of gorgeous OLED TVs. Sony's new 4K OLED TV starts at $2,499.99 for an A8G 55-inch unit with the TV shipping in May. OLED TV fans wanting a larger 65-inch screen will pay $3,499.99, with that TV available in May. Sony will have higher-end OLED TVs available as well and has announced prices on its Master Series A9G 4K OLED TVs. The segment starts at a 55-inch size for $3,499.99, and the larger 65-inch will sell for $4,499.99: both ship in May. Stepping up... Read more...
LG announced its new G8 ThinQ flagship smartphone back at MWC 2019, but it was largely overshadowed by its perennial South Korean rival, Samsung, which unveiled the Galaxy S10 family. With that being said, the G8 ThinQ is an incredibly powerful device that is equally deserving of your attention if you’re in the market for a flagship Android device. LG announced today that the G8 ThinQ will arrive in the United States starting on April 11th, and it will be available from all four major wireless carriers: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. While the MSRP for the G8 ThinQ is $819.99, Verizon and Sprint will be selling the device for $840. AT&T comes in a tad bit lower... Read more...
Placing an order on-line, and receiving the wrong item, can be annoying. It's also irritating when things that we didn't even order in the first place end up at our home. A man called Nick Memmo from Freetown, Mass. knows this all too well; he ordered a 75-inch TV on Amazon, and when Amazon's delivery service contractor dropped it off, they also delivered a larger LG 84-inch TV at the same time. And that second mis-delivered TV landed Memmo in hot water with the police. Because Memmo held onto the set and was coy about it, he was charged and arrested for larceny and for misleading a police officer. Officers executed a search of the man's home after their initial contact and found the 84-inch... Read more...
LG has gone official with its new G8 ThinQ phone, and if you've been paying attention over the past few months, then you already know quite a bit about the device. First and foremost, this is the first smartphone in LG's long-running G-Series to incorporate an OLED display instead of an LCD. OLED technology is something that we've all just taken for granted these days, and even Apple came around to the display tech for its flagship phones back in 2017 with the iPhone X. With the LG G8 ThinQ, the QHD+ FullVision Display (3120x1440) measures a full 6.1-inches diagonally (coming in at 564 pixels per inch) with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Powering the smartphone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor... Read more...
A world of faster wireless connectivity awaits as carriers and hardware makers alike forge ahead with 5G roll outs (real 5G roll outs, that is, and not fake ones like 5G Evolution). We expect 5G to be a point of focus at Mobile World Congress, and indeed, LG is planning to introduce 5G phones at the event. Interestingly, however, LG will not be jumping on the folding phone bandwagon in the immediate future. LG President Kwon Bong-Suk recently confirmed as much during a press conference at the LG Science Park in Seoul, South Korea. "During the Consumer Electronics Show in January, LG introduced a rollable TV. This is an advanced technology one step ahead of foldable technology. We have reviewed... Read more...
MWC 2019 will be here before you know it and at the show, there will be a legion of new smartphones unveiled. Among the devices to be revealed is the LG V50 ThinQ. LG has already been teasing the device, so we know a bit about it, and now an image has leaked that claims to be of the smartphone wearing its Sprint 5G livery. A glance at the device shows that it looks very familiar. Image via Evan Blass Essentially the LG V50 ThinQ looks exactly like the V40 ThinQ that came before it, but the V50 has a yellow 5G logo on the back for Sprint duty. The back of the alleged V50 ThinQ shows the same three camera arrangement with fingerprint scanner underneath. The image of the front of the V50 has the... Read more...
So much attention in the smartphone space is paid to Apple and Samsung, but lest anyone forget that LG is also player in the premium phone market, the company is waving around its upcoming G8 ThinQ with an innovative feature that promises to deliver "exceptional smartphone audio." The LG G8 ThinQ will be the company's first phone to feature a Crystal Sound OLED (CSO) display contraption. What makes this technology unique is that it leverages the phone's OLED panel as an audio amplifier. This apparently has several benefits for the audio experience, including higher volume levels, deeper bass, and cleaner audio. "Developed in-house by LG, CSO repurposes the OLED display as a diaphragm, vibrating... Read more...
Earlier this week, Samsung announced their new 2019 lineup of 4K and 8K televisions using a display technology they call QLED. The term QLED looks suspiciously like OLED, but do the two technologies actually have much in common? After fielding a few questions about this on our website and social media, we want to clear up any confusion between them and expound on what to expect in terms of picture quality from each. We will start at the beginning with a basic LED LCD display. Virtually everyone has encountered one of these displays at some point in their life as they make up the majority of the market. These use a white LED backlight to shine through tiny red, green, and blue filters to create... Read more...
If you’re sick and tired of hearing about the Samsung Galaxy S10, here’s an Android device of a different flavor that will also be announced later this month. We now have some official renders of the production version of the LG G8 ThinQ smartphone.  The images come courtesy of everyone’s favorite gadget leaker, Evan Blass. We see the smartphone from every angle, and we can discern that the smartphone still features a notch in the top-center of the display. This is a rather interesting design choice as the large notch is “so 2018”, as many Android OEMs – including South Korean rival Samsung – are moving to punch hole displays in 2019. Housed... LG is gearing up for a big MWC 2019 showing and is already teasing its flagship device that will be unveiled at the show. LG has in the past teased a device using a Snapdragon 855 SoC and packing a 5G modem for the show, but it's unclear if that device is the G8 ThinQ. LG has now announced that it has teamed up with Infineon and that the LG G8 ThinQ to be unveiled at the show will pack the new Infineon REAL3 Time-of-Flight (ToF) image sensor chip. LG says that the new sensor is going to play a critical role in the front-facing camera of the G8 ThinQ smartphone. The sensor builds on the combined skills of Infineon and pmdtechnolgoies in algorithms for processed 3D point clouds. A point cloud is... Read more...
In a report yesterday, we told you that LG is looking to say goodbye to touch as it embraces gesture controls in its upcoming smartphones. Today, LG is giving even more insight into what it will be showing off at MWC 2019, which is being held in Barcelona, Spain next month. LG says that its newest flagship will sport Qualcomm's brand new 7nm Snapdragon 855 SoC, which will be all the rage for devices launching this year. In addition, the smartphone will feature 5G connectivity, likely made possible by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X50 5G modem. If that wasn't enough, LG also said that it will fit the new flagship with a massive 4,000 mAh battery. For reference, the current LG V40 ThinQ with... Read more...
In just a few weeks, this year's annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) will be upon us, and we are expecting several product announcements. Ahead of the event, LG is interestingly teasing gesture controls as it quite literally waves goodbye to touch in a short video. LG also says we are going to be "stunned." "Are you prepared to get stunned by the LG Premier at the MWC 2019? Stay tuned!," the video's description reads. LG also links to its LG Mobile Facebook page and Instagram account, though neither one offers up any additional information. If you want to be one of the first to know what's going on, though, it would be worth following one or the other. One thing that is interesting about the teaser... Read more...
