Just over a week ago, AMD gave us an update on its upcoming Zen 3-based Ryzen 4000 desktop processors, and the platforms that would support the chips. That update, however, didn’t go over very well with the enthusiast community, as AMD explained that only current-generation X570 and B550 motherboards would support Zen 3. Rumor has it that AMD's next round of Ryzen processors will have a bigger than expected bump in IPC (instructions per clock) performance. Built on a new architecture, Zen 3 will see a die shrink and, most likely, some notable performance optimizations, power efficiency gains, and upgraded features. But all eyes will be on the IPC bump. A jump in the 10-15 percent range would be considered pretty robust. Back in early March, which seems like ages ago considering the past two months we’ve gone through, we received our first glimpse at AMD’s upcoming Renoir-based Ryzen 4000 (Zen 2) desktop processors. As you might expect, these processors are cut from the same cloth as AMD’s Ryzen 4000 mobile processors and feature integrated Radeon graphics – something that’s missing from AMD’s mainline Ryzen 3000 (Zen 2) desktop processors. AMD has made a big deal about the longevity of its AM4 socket, and rightfully so—frequent socket changes effectively eliminate or seriously hamper potential upgrade paths when building a PC. The question is, will AM4 extend out to AMD's upcoming Zen 3 processors? AMD said it will, on select chipsets, and even hinted it could beyond Zen 3. Support through Zen 3 is not a surprise. Lenovo announced today that it is spreading AMD Ryzen 4000 love deeper into its laptop range, and has provided us with some availability dates for Ryzen 4000-powered notebooks that it announced earlier this year at CES 2020. Kicking things off is the addition of Ryzen 4000 SKUs to the existing ThinkPad E14 and E15 product families. The current ThinkPad E14 and E15 are available with 10th generation Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 Ice Lake processors. Fans of Hewlett-Packard's Omen family of gaming laptops will be happy to know that an all-new design is on the way for 2020. The company was a little bit premature with the unveil of the new look via its UK website, but the information is still visible via Google Cache. For starters, there appear to be thinner bezels around the top and sides of the display panel the time around, which is a nice touch for the Omen 15. In addition, the display no longer leaves an "air gap" between its bottom edge and the chassis when opened. AMD launched its well-received Ryzen 4000 mobile processors last month, and a number of OEMs jumped on the bandwagon. MSI sat out the initial round of announcements, but is coming out swinging with its Bravo gaming laptop series. MSI’s new Bravo 15 and Bravo 17 gaming laptops trade out the NVIDIA GeForce RTX Super GPUs found in its latest Comet Lake-H laptops in favor of AMD Radeon RX 5500M (Navi) discrete graphics. Sometime later this year, AMD will unveil its Zen 3 CPU architecture with a new Ryzen 4000 series of desktop CPUs (not to be confused with AMD's Ryzen 4000 series of mobile chips based on Zen 2). The question is, will these next-gen parts still leverage the AM4 socket? It certainly seems that way, based on everything that's been said up to this point. The pace of progress is swift these days over at AMD. Since launching its first generation Zen architecture three years ago, there have been two more iterations, Zen+ and Zen 2, with Zen 3 on track to release this year. AMD has not yet announced an official launch date, but the word out of the rumor mill is that Zen 3 will debut in the fall. Zen 3 will usher in AMD's Ryzen 4000 series of desktop processors. Hewlett-Packard is no stranger to using Ryzen processors in its desktops and laptops, and the company is further showing its confidence in AMD with the launch of new ProBook 445 G7 and 455 G7 business laptops. Both machines are powered by AMD's new Ryzen 4000 processors, which feature integrated Radeon Vega GPUs. The smaller of the two is the ProBook 445 G7, which features a 14-inch display available in HD and Full HD resolutions, all of which feature an anti-glare coating. According to a recent leak, the very first Ryzen 4000 Renoir-based laptops could be launching as soon as next Monday. However, these aren't the only Ryzen 4000 processors on the docket from AMD; a new leak confirms that Ryzen 4000 desktop-based APUs will be arriving soon. AMD first announced its Ryzen 4000 family of Zen 2 mobile processors back at CES 2020, and it appears that the wait for shipping laptops featuring these new chips will soon be over. Last week at CES 2020, AMD launched its newest Ryzen APUs based on 7nm Zen 2 architecture. Today, Hewlett-Packard became the latest to adopt these processors into its product range with the introduction of the ProBook x360 435 G7. The ProBook x360 435 G7 is a 13.3-inch class convertible with a Full HD resolution touch display. We learned earlier this week that AMD is gearing up to launch new 500 Series chipsets -- A520 and B550 -- to help lower the cost of entry for desktop systems running Ryzen 3000 processors. These chipsets are reportedly being produced by long-time AMD partner ASMedia Technology. The latest news concerning AMD chipsets hails from DigiTimes, which claims that AMD's 600 series chipsets will also be produced (at least in part) by ASMedia, and will be available during the back half of 2020.
