In an age where flagship Samsung Galaxy smartphones start at $999, and can creep up to $1,399 in Galaxy S20 Ultraform, it's nice to know that some Android OEMs are still focusing on the opposite end of the pricing spectrum. In this case, we're talking about Motorola, which has just debuted its new Moto G8 Power Lite. The Moto G8 Power Lite won't win any speed contests, as it uses a budget-friendly 2.3GHz MediaTek Helio P35 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. However, not everyone wants to hit insane frame rates in Fortnite or Call of Duty: Mobile, and will be well served with the performance that octa-core Helio P35 offers. There's also 64GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded to 256GB if... Read more...
Lenovo is back again for another round of notebook/convertible refreshes including its popular T-Series and X-Series families. All of the systems are either powered by Intel Comet Lake processors or in some instances, the latest mobile APUs from AMD. In the case of the ThinkPad X13 and X13 Yoga, Lenovo has trimmed the fat from the laptop and convertible respectively, making them smaller and lighter than their predecessors. Lenovo has also upgraded the available processors with 10th generation Core i5 and Core i7 configurations (up to 6-core/12-thread) with or without vPro. Interestingly, Lenovo is also making the ThinkPad X13 available with AMD's new 7nm Zen 2-based Ryzen 4000 mobile processors.... Read more...

Nearly every device on the market relies on firmware and many devices include multiple components with their own firmware. Manufacturers and developers have begun to focus on protecting system firmware from potential attackers, but peripheral firmware often receives very little attention. Security researchers at Eclypsium recently uncovered unsigned or unverified firmware in devices by companies such as Lenovo, HP, and Dell and were able to successfully attack a server. Many have been aware for quite some time of the dangers of unsigned firmware, but this recent study emphasizes how frequently manufacturers tend to ignore peripherals. Katie Teitler, Senior Analyst at TAG Cyber, remarked, “Software... Read more...
Owners of certain models of Lenovo computers have found that their USB ports and Thunderbolt ports may not work as they should. Are we finally seeing a turning of the tides for PC sales? Well according to new analysis from both Gartner and IDC, it appears so given the promising sales numbers tallied for 2019.  According to IDC, global PC shipments grew by 2.7 percent for 2019, taking the total tally to 266.7 million. Gartner didn't show as much growth year-over-year, but still marked down a 0.6 percent increase for 2019 for a total of 261.2 million units shipped for the year. Although the percentage increase and total shipment numbers differ, the consensus from both firms is that the global PC market witnessed its first year-over-year sales gain since 2011. So, what exactly is the reason for this uptick in sales... Read more...

Back in mid-May 2019, Lenovo gave us our first glimpse at the ThinkPad X1 Fold, which was billed at the time as the world’s first PC with a foldable display. At the time, the company provided a high-level overview of its specs including its 13.3-inch OLED display, unnamed (at the time) Intel processor, and Wacom pen support.  Today, Lenovo is giving us a lot more details on the 2.2-pound ThinkPad X1 Fold, including the revelation that it will feature Intel Core Processors with Intel Hybrid Technology. That leads us to believe that the folding wunderkind will be powered by Intel 10nm Lakefied SoCs, which will also underpin Microsoft’s Surface Neo dual display... Read more...

It appears that Motorola may have a potential hit on its hands with the upcoming Razr smartphone. The new Razr represents a new take on the nascent folding smartphone market with a portrait-style display and a horizontal hinge. Motorola has now announced that it has to delay both the start of pre-orders and when the device will actually launch. The company had previously stated that pre-orders would commence on the day after Christmas (December 26th), with an official launch to occur in January. The company issued the following statement about the status of the smartphone's arrival: Since its announcement in November, the new Motorola razr has received unparalleled excitement and interest... Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 family has long been synonymous with excellent build quality and premium features; Over the summer, we were extremely impressed with the 7th-generation ThinkPad X1 Carbon's build quality, performance, and its bright 4K IPS display. This time around we're looking at the larger ThinkPad X1 Extreme, which shares a design aesthetic with its smaller sibling. However, this model trades the smaller notebook's ultrabook specs for a larger 15.6" chassis and higher-powered components.  Much like the Carbon, the ThinkPad X1 Extreme starts out with a 1080p IPS display and has several panel options that top out with a 3840x2160 UHD unit with a maximum brightness of 500 nits and certification... Technically speaking, Black Friday is in the rear view mirror, leaving us in that seemingly awkward period that falls between the annual day of bargains and Cyber Monday. Over the years, however, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have morphed into a long weekend of sales. We mention this because there are a bunch of laptop deals that are still active on Amazon, including Apple's 13-inch MacBook Air. Whether you want to call these lingering Black Friday deals or early Cyber Monday bargains hardly matters—the point is, there are savings to be had. After months of countless leaks, Motorola’s modern take on the Razr V3 is finally official, and it’s simply called the Razr. Like the Samsung Galaxy Fold that came before it, the Razr is foldable smartphone with an intricate hinge system – but that’s where the similarities end. While the Galaxy Fold is in essence a tablet that can be folded down to the size of a phone, the Razr has the form-factor of a slightly taller than average smartphone that folds down into compact and incredibly pocketable “puck” that fits into your hand. And unlike the Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X, the Razr is able to accomplish its folding trick without leaving an unsightly crease... Read more...
Motorola's Moto Razr is almost here folks; and that point is even more evident by the smartphone's appearance at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). As is often the case with unreleased smartphones, these FCC "leaks" often give us a great look at what we can expect when the product begins shipping. The FCC images confirm all of the previously leaked renders that we've seen concerning the Moto Razr, including its clamshell design that harks back to the original Moto Razr flip-phone family. We can also see an elongated, unbroken portrait-style display that folds when not in use. Additional images from the FCC show the smartphone with its display unfolded from the right and left sides,... Read more...
