During the summer, leaks were surfacing that suggested Lenovo was here to save us all from the notched smartphone reality that we face today. That smartphone was called the Lenovo Z5, however, when the Z5 launched it indeed featured a notch shattering the dreams of people wanting to avoid that feature. Lenovo has now gone official with a new version of the Z5 called the Z5 Pro; this device lacks a notch and has a 95% screen-to-body ratio. The smartphone still has a front camera, but rather than being crammed into a notch, a sliding front camera module pops up behind the screen. Lenovo calls out a Snapdragon 710 SoC rather than the Snapdragon 845 most flagship smartphones are using. The screen... Read more...
Imitation might be the sincerest form of flattery, but that doesn't mean companies take kindly to others infringing on their intellectual property (IP) or otherwise ripping off their products. Whether Lenovo did that to Sony with its Mirage Solo VR headset, which looks strikingly similar to the PlayStation VR, is now moot. Why? Sony and Lenovo signed a two-year patent licensing agreement that renders it so. Lenovo Mirage Solo "We are pleased to announce that we have licensed the PS VR headset design to Lenovo," said Riley Russell, Chief Legal Officer at SIE. "The industrial design for PS VR has been widely acclaimed, and that was the result of years of hard work by PlayStation engineers. This... Read more...
There was a time when choosing a thin and light 2-in-1 laptop meant making compromises and deciding which features you could live without. That isn’t much of a problem nowadays, as there are excellent premium notebook offerings from all the major OEMs, including Dell, HP, Microsoft, Acer, and Lenovo. Lenovo, however, always sought to innovate ahead of the curve with its Yoga 2-in-1 form factor and continues to do so today with the beautiful new Yoga C930 we'll be showing you here. It takes a lot to stand out in the crowded segment of premium, high-quality 2-in-1 notebooks, however. Lenovo’s latest iteration does so by going beyond the usual yearly hardware updates and sprinkles a... Read more...
There's some big news in the latest round of PC shipment numbers that are coming from Gartner and IDC. Although the firms use differing tracking methods, both show that Lenovo has regained its spot as the world’s top-selling PC vendor for the third quarter. According to Gartner, overall global PC sales rose just 0.1 percent year-over-year to 67.2 million. On the global stage, Lenovo was the top performer, showing a 10.7 percent increase YoY to 15.8 million units shipped. We all know that Lenovo builds PCs, but did you know it also builds starships? Well, it does now. Lenovo is boldly going where it has never gone before, that being the Star Trek universe with a custom PC molded after the iconic USS Enterprise (NCC-1701). It's apparently a powerful PC, compete with an optional PC in case Scotty wants to beam some original Star Trek episodes. Lenovo posted a short teaser video on Twitter and YouTube. The clip is only 14 seconds long, though that's more than long enough to get excited about its upcoming PC. There are several closeup shots of the system, followed by a full view of the rig. Check it out below... Unfortunately, Lenovo didn't post any specs to social... Read more...

Lenovo has trotted out a pair of new mobile workstations including the ThinkPad P1 and the ThinkPad P72 that are thinner and more portable than you might expect. Of these two workstations, the thinnest of them is the P1 and this workstation class machine is only 0.7-inches thick. The beefier ThinkPad P72 is still only an inch thick. Lenovo manages to cram serious workstation hardware inside the rigs and keep it cool with choices of 8th gen Intel Core processors and Xeon hardware inside the rigs. Workstations need lots of graphics muscle for some types of workloads and Lenovo accommodates this type of user with NVIDIA Quadro professional graphics options. The P72 being the slightly thicker... The original Motorola Z Play made a name for itself among users who champion smartphone battery life above all other features. It was not uncommon to hear of Moto Z Play users getting multiple days of power out of a single charge. In our review, Its battery life trounced every other phone we have ever tested by a wide margin. So, when the Moto Z2 Play was introduced last year, many lamented Motorola’s decision to slim the phone down and ultimately reduce battery capacity. While battery life was still exceptional, it fell far from eclipsing its processor. It is no surprise then that demands were high for the new Moto Z3 Play’s battery life to improve over the Z2 Play’s minor... Read more...
