Technically speaking, Black Friday is in the rear view mirror, leaving us in that seemingly awkward period that falls between the annual day of bargains and Cyber Monday. Over the years, however, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have morphed into a long weekend of sales. We mention this because there are a bunch of laptop deals that are still active on Amazon, including Apple's 13-inch MacBook Air. Whether you want to call these lingering Black Friday deals or early Cyber Monday bargains hardly matters—the point is, there are savings to be had. Discounts On Apple's MacBook Air For Black Friday And Cyber Monday Amazon is selling the aforementioned MacBook Air for $699, which is $300 below its... Read more...
After months of countless leaks, Motorola’s modern take on the Razr V3 is finally official, and it’s simply called the Razr. Like the Samsung Galaxy Fold that came before it, the Razr is foldable smartphone with an intricate hinge system – but that’s where the similarities end. While the Galaxy Fold is in essence a tablet that can be folded down to the size of a phone, the Razr has the form-factor of a slightly taller than average smartphone that folds down into compact and incredibly pocketable “puck” that fits into your hand. And unlike the Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X, the Razr is able to accomplish its folding trick without leaving an unsightly crease... Read more...
Motorola's Moto Razr is almost here folks; and that point is even more evident by the smartphone's appearance at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). As is often the case with unreleased smartphones, these FCC "leaks" often give us a great look at what we can expect when the product begins shipping. The FCC images confirm all of the previously leaked renders that we've seen concerning the Moto Razr, including its clamshell design that harks back to the original Moto Razr flip-phone family. We can also see an elongated, unbroken portrait-style display that folds when not in use. Additional images from the FCC show the smartphone with its display unfolded from the right and left sides,... Read more...
If you owned a Motorola Moto RAZR back in the day, or admired one from afar because you couldn't afford it, we've got a treat for the eyes today. We've already seen leaked patent drawings and renders of the smartphone in the past, but this is probably the best leak of the device we've seen to date. The first of the leaked images comes from our usual go-to when it comes to unreleased smartphones: Evan Blass. Blass tweeted what looks to be a somewhat dark promotional image of the new Moto RAZR being opened. From its overall style to its beefy "chin", it's a dead ringer for the Moto RAZR V3. We can also make out a circular camera on the back of the display. Not to be outdone, Mobielkopen has... Read more...
There's been plenty of doom and gloom surrounding PC shipments over the past few years, with many consumers and business opting to not upgrade their hardware on a regular basis. However, new numbers that are in from research firm Gartner suggests that PC sales actually saw a slight uptick for Q3 2019 compared to the year-ago period, continuing a trend we saw during the second quarter. According to Garner's figures, shipments actually increased by 1.1 percent during Q3 to 68.1 million units. This compares to 67.4 million units during Q3 2018. What's interesting is that there were a number of factors at play that could have had a negative impact on the quarterly numbers: namely warning signs... Read more...
While AMD has been garnering a lot of attention in the mainstream processor market with third-generation desktop Ryzen processors, and is building anticipation for third-generation Ryzen Threadripper parts, the company has been relatively silent with regards to the professional market. That changes today with the announcement of a new line of Ryzen 3000 Pro processors aimed squarely at business customers. Like the already announced Ryzen 3000 desktop processors, the Ryzen 3000 Pro family is based on AMD's 7nm Zen 2 architecture. At this time, there are three new Zen 2 processors that have been announced: Ryzen 5 Pro 3600, Ryzen 7 Pro 3700, and Ryzen 9 Pro 3900. All three processors have... Read more...

New year, new ThinkPad X1 Carbon—it's easy to think that yearly laptop iterations would be mundane. However, today we're looking at one of our most heavily-awarded line of laptops here at HotHardware, so expectations run high. Last year's Lenovo flagship really impressed us, with power under the hood combined with its well-designed and lightweight body, impressive 2560x1440 Dolby HDR IPS display, and great battery life. That model earned an Editor's Choice award and still stands tall as one of our favorite business-oriented ultraportables. How could the 2019 variant be made even better?  To start with, this year's model is thinner, lighter, has even more powerful hardware... Read more...
Is your Bluetooth connection secure? Researchers recently discovered a Bluetooth vulnerability that could allow hackers to intercept and manipulate a user’s communications. The researchers tested and found seventeen vulnerable Bluetooth chips in devices from companies such as Intel, Apple, Lenovo, and Qualcomm. The findings were presented at the USENIX Security Symposium by researchers from the Center for IT-Security, Privacy and Accountability (CISPA). The vulnerability has been nicknamed “Key Negotiation Of Bluetooth” or “KNOB”. Every time two Bluetooth devices establish a connection, they also create a new encryption key. Unfortunately, not every device has a... Read more...
AMD shook up the processor market with its 14nm Zen architecture, which first debuted in 2017. It followed up with the 12nm Zen+ refresh in 2018, and we were introduced to 7nm Zen 2 in early July with the launch of the consumer-centric Ryzen 3000 processor family. While Ryzen processors have been a noticeable thorn in Intel’s side on the consumer side of the equation, the first-generation EPYC server processors have also been making inroads against the well-entrenched Intel Xeons in the enterprise market. With that in mind, AMD tonight is officially launching its second-generation “Rome” EPYC 7002 processor family that is based on Zen 2. These new EPYC processors share... Read more...
Lenovo is turning its attention to its mobile workstation family, specifically its ThinkPad P Series which are getting upgraded with more potent processors and onboard graphics. Kicking things off are the ThinkPad P53, which is being billed as the world’s most powerful 15-inch class mobile workstation, and the ThinkPad P73, its 17-inch counterpart. Both are powered by up to 9th generation Intel Core i9 or Xeon octa-core processors and can be equipped with up to 128GB of DDR4 memory via four SODIMM slots. Since Lenovo knows that mobile pros often need a lot of graphics muscle on-the-go, both systems can be optioned with up to a NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 discrete graphics card. ThinkPad... Read more...
Humans have been dreaming up machines that take care of everyday household tasks since the Industrial Revolution. Smart home devices of various types have existed for several decades, but have become increasingly popular over the last few years as they have become more powerful, intelligent, and connected. Many consumers are now able to do everything from preheating their ovens to checking up on their home security cameras, with a simple tap on their smart device. Lenovo started to inch its way into the smart home market last year. The Lenovo Smart Display with Google Assistant was released in 2018. It was one of the first Google Assistant-enabled display devices to hit the market. The device... Read more...
It's been a while since we've talked about Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8cx platform for Windows 10 PCs. Like the Snapdragon 835 and Snapdragon 850 that came before it, the 7nm Snapdragon 8cx is a rather peculiar platform in that it is based on ARM architecture rather than an Intel- or AMD-based x86-64 platform. Today, we're witnessing the announcement of the world's very first 5G-enabled PC, and it of course comes packing the Snapdragon 8cx Compute Platform. It's Lenovo’s Project Limitless and it takes the form of a 2-in-1 convertible Windows 10 PC. Lenovo Project Limitless Looking at the device, it seems like a pretty standard-fare convertible design that would fit neatly... Read more...
Motorola is expanding its smartphone family once again, this time with the announcement of the One Vision. As its name implies, this smartphone is running Google's pared down Android One operating system. The One Vision breaks away from the design themes that we've seen from previous "One" smartphones and does away with the centrally-mounted display notch. Instead, the smartphone uses a single punch hole “CinemaVision” display, similar to what you'd see on the Samsung Galaxy S10e. That cutout houses a 25-megapixel selfie camera if you’re into that sort of thing. Speaking of the CinemaVision display, it measures 6.3 inches diagonally and has a 21:9 aspect ratio. As for the resolution,... Read more...
Smartphones with foldable displays seem to be all the rage these days buoyed by innovative smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Fold (which has run into its share of problems even before its official release) and the Huawei Mate X. However, the foldable display craze is about to hit the PC sector as well, and Lenovo will be among the first to jump on the bandwagon. The company announced tonight that it is currently developing the "world's first foldable PC" and that it will actually be released to the market next year. Lenovo isn't being specific about an exact launch date, so it's simply sticking with 2020 for now. And although Lenovo hasn't announced an official name... Read more...
Earlier today, we brought you news of Lenovo's new second-generation ThinkPad X1 Extreme and the all-new ThinkBook S family of laptops. However, Lenovo also had another new device on hand to unveil: the ThinkCentre M90n-1 Nano. The ThinkCentre M90n-1 Nano is being billed as the world's smallest commercial desktop PC, as it measures just 7.04 x 3.46 x 0.86 inches and weighs in a relatively lightweight 1.1 pounds while taking up a volume of 0.35-liters. Despite its compact dimensions, Lenovo is fitting the system with some pretty beefy hardware including 8th generation Intel Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 processors -- with and without vPro technology. Likewise, Lenovo isn't skimping... Read more...
Back in late August, Lenovo launched the ThinkPad X1 Extreme notebook, which took the X1 family to new heights with a large 15.6-inch display and 8th generation Core processors. Lenovo today has introduced the second-generation version of the ThinkPad X1 Extreme, and it brings more of a good thing for those looking for a mobile workhorse. This time around, the ThinkPad X1 Extreme has traded out the 8th generation Core processors for Intel's latest 9th generation Core i9 processors. The first-generation laptop was available with hexa-core Core i9 processors at the top-end of the range, and we expect at least hexa-core (and potentially octa-core processors) this... Read more...

Lenovo's line of Legion laptops and desktops are designed for gamers, but one complaint levied against last year's Legion Y730 model was the lack of more powerful graphics options. However, Lenovo was obviously listening to consumer feedback and the new Lenovo Legion Y740 we are looking at today, rights this previous wrong by giving potential buyers not one, but two powerful NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs to choose from. The base model comes with a GeForce RTX 2060, but if you're able to spend a few more greenbacks on your config, you can move up to a GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q. NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q wasn't the only high-end component selection Lenovo managed to squeeze under the hood of this... Read more...
