Today we enter into the third and final day of the Fornite World Cup, capping off what has been a wild tournament with the Solo Finals at 1:00 pm ET (10:00 am PT). One of the more inspiring story lines is that of a relatively unknown (in the world of competitive gaming) British teenager who took second place in duos, netting him and his partner a cool $2.25 million. The second place duo consisted of Dave "Rojo" Jong and 15-year-old Jaden "Wolfiez" Ashman (shown above, middle of top row). They beat out Emil Bergquist Pedersen and David W. to secure more than $1 million apiece in prize money. Jaden stands out both because of his age and his low profile status—before now, he was not a big... Read more...
Fortnite is celebrating its second birthday in-game on the PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch and mobile devices. The birthday celebration has a handful of challenges that players can partake in, and for the players who finish them all, a special reward awaits. Fortnite players who complete all four birthday challenges will be rewarded with the Birthday Cake harvesting tool. While three of those challenges are pretty straightforward and need no explanation, the one that may give players trouble requires dancing in front of birthday cakes. The birthday cake dancing challenge is similar to a challenge that Fortnite had for last year's birthday celebration. The challenge is finding the birthday cakes. Thankfully,... Read more...
Microsoft capped off its record fiscal year with $33.7 billion in revenue during its most recent quarter, to go along with operating income of $12.4 billion and a profit of $13.2 billion. Not too shabby. However, gaming revenue took a hit, and there is speculation that Fortnite, one of the most popular games on the planet, is the reason why. Epic Games has a cash cow on its hands with Fornite, the free-to-play game that has generated over $1 billion in revenue for the developer since its inception. It also popularized the battle royale craze, leading to games like Apex Legends storming the scene in hopes of being just as a lucrative. Nevertheless, Fortnite is not pulling in as much cash as it... Read more...
This weekend was the Fortnite Season 9 finale with the giant robot facing off against the monster dubbed Cattus. The fight was by all accounts an epic battle, and the end result was that the robot, dubbed Doggus, defeated Cattus. The expectation from most was that the battle would destroy a lot of the familiar structures around the island and usher in changes that would be part of Season 10. However, when the battle was complete, the only real change was the robot's sword stabbed through the skull of the monster. Something that might not have seemed to be a game-changer happened in the battle and occurred when the robot's arm was ripped off, and it plunged its good arm into the power generation... Wow, talk about a battle for the ages! No, we are not talking about the events taking place at The Open Championship, or 40-year-old boxing legend Manny Pacquiao delivering 30-year-old Keith Thurman his first defeat to claim the WBA Super welterweight title. All exciting stuff for sure, but Fortnite's Season 9 'The Final Showdown' between a larger-than-life robot and an equally big monster delivered on the hype and anticipation. The live event took place yesterday afternoon at 2:00 pm ET (11:00 am PT). Leading up to the event, Fornite players saw the construction of the pink robot, called Cattus, piece by piece throughout the season at the Pressure Plant. Meanwhile, the monster, called Doggus,... Today is a big day for Fortnite, the epic mech vs. monster battle is going down at 2 PM EST and there are a lot of Fortnite fans wondering what's going to happen. Gamers got their first look at the monster, called Cattus, after the end of season 8 when the volcano erupted and spewed rocks at Polar Peak that broke the iceberg and uncovered part of the monster. We have yet to see the creature in its entirety. It has been spied swimming around on occasion, but today will mark the day when the creature is seen in full for the first time. A robot has been under construction seemingly as a response to Cattus with construction finishing recently; the mech was dubbed Doggus. When the robot was complete,... Read more...
With Season 9 of Fortnite coming to an end, a lot has been going on in the game. Players have been hunting down Fortbytes and this week the second to last Fortbyte was discovered in the metal llama building. Players have been watching the progress of the giant robot being constructed over at Pressure Plant since the beginning of the month. New parts for the giant robot turned up every other day, and the bot is now complete. Reports indicate that the robot will fight the creature that is codenamed "Cattus" in Fortnite game files that have surfaced. The creature the robot will fight is near Loot Lake, and the fight is supposedly going down on Saturday, July 20. The date of the fight is known thanks... Read more...
Epic Games introduced a new collectible item in Season 9 of Fortnite called Forbytes, and it takes 90 of them to unlock the Singularity Skin. All but six have been revealed so far. The newest one to be revealed, Fortbyte 23, can be found between an RV campsite, a gas station, and a monstrous footprint, Epic Games says. While that is a helpful clue, it is not exactly a precise location. If you are having trouble pinpointing the precision spot, good news—plenty of others have found it, and streamers have not been shy about uploading directions to exactly where you can grab it. One of the shorter (yet still informative) videos was posted by YouTuber InTheLittleWood. Have a watch... He switches... Read more...
Epic Games is giving Fornite players the ability to call in explosive air strikes on their opponents with the latest content update. Appropriately enough, the new item is called Air Strike, and it is available with the v9.30 Content 3 patch that has already begun rolling out. Fortunately, the Air Strike item is of the Legendary variant, so it is not going to be a constant bombardment of missiles (hopefully). The way it works is a user throws a canister of colored smoke at a target. This calls in a flurry of missiles from above, once the canister comes to rest. A total of 20 missiles spawn about 120 meters above the smoke canister, then rain down on the poor sap who happens to be underneath. Each... Read more...
Strange things are happening inside Fortnite, the wildly popular, free-to-play battle royale. Scratch that—Stranger Things, as in the equally popular Netflix original. Portals are popping up in Fortnite in what is a clear Stranger Things tie-in, just ahead of the show's Season 3 premier tomorrow on the streaming video service. Image Source: Reddit (TAK_Blitz) As shown above in a screenshot shared to Reddit by user TAK_Blitz, these not-so-mysterious portals (or gates) have a distinct look to them, with sprawling roots and an eerily orange and red glow in the center. They have been popping up in Fortnite's Mega Mall POI. Interestingly, stepping through them transports your character to a... Read more...
Fortnite’s latest Fortbyte challenge has player’s embracing their inner disco fever. Fortnite players can obtain Fortbyte #53 by dancing it out to raise a disco ball. This particular challenge will also require a dancing partner who is down to cut some rug with you. Players will need to grab at least one friend and head to a villain lair. The lair is located on the northern mountains that are east of the Snobby Shores. It is also the location where a rocket was launched in a previous season. You will then need to drop to the bottom of the lair to find a disco ball and two dance pads. Each player will need to hop onto a dance pad and shake proverbial booty to raise the disco ball.... Apex Legends fans have a lot going on right now to soak in. This week dragons have turned up in the game that drop loot when shot, but some wondered how you actually kill them and what might happen if you do. A lot more is going in the Apex Legends world right now, including hints at a new Legends for players to enjoy. It wasn't long ago that a new Apex legends character was revealed called Wattson. Just recently, however, dataminers have dug up some details on the next character added to the game and rumors say it will be a character called Crypto.  Crypto is a character that is believed to have been hiding in plain sight since the game launched. Crypto was also part of the leak in March... Read more...
Epic Games is rolling out a new update to Fortnite (patch v9.30), with one of the main new features being the addition of Chug Splash to Battle Royale. This "tasty new beverage" is sort of a healing grenade—players chuck the six-pack onto the battlefield and anyone caught within the radius of the splashed liquid is healed for +20 health. If someone already has full health, they will receive +20 shield instead. Just be careful when flinging the six-pack. Anyone caught in the splash radius receives a boost to their health or shield, including not only the person who threw it and allies that were targeted, but enemies as well. In addition, another delicious side effect is it can extend the... Read more...
Fortnite continues to be an incredibly popular game with battle royale fans. The latest season of content has several Fortbyte collectibles, that when gathered each unlocks a portion of a scene believed to give a hint at the live event for this season. Some of the Fortbytes are tied to challenges in the game and can only be unlocked for completing specific tasks. Other Fortbytes only need to be discovered to collect them. The latest Fortbyte is now available to collect now and it's Fortbyte 49. Fortunately, this one is straightforward to find. Fortbyte 49 is hidden inside Trog's ice cave in the frozen southwestern portion of the map. It's stashed away inside the small wooden house inside the... Read more...
Epic Games has been tweaking Fortnite continuously over the months since it launched, updating the game with new content, squashing bugs and beating down cheaters. Among the new recent content was the Avengers: Endgame crossover to celebrate the launch of the movie. Epic also recently gave gamers an explanation for why it removed the siphoning feature from the game. Finally, a problem with the Fortnite season 8 unvaulting event recently prompted Epic to apologize to gamers who participated and give them a free glider. To say there's been some disruption for Fortnite players would be an understatement... Don't try and slide down this hill near Neo-Tilted And a new annoyance has been found... Read more...
Fortnite still remains an incredibly popular game in the battle royale arena even though Apex Legends is coming on strong. Fortnite tends to draw large masses of fans to the game when it has its massive season-ending events, and one was held recently. This "Unvaulting" event didn't go well for all of the players involved, which took place on May 4 at Loot Lake. Players there for the event were able to jump into a vault that opened in the location. Once inside they were able to choose a pillar to hack up that represented different weapons and items that had been vaulted and removed from the game. Players worked together to chisel away the pillars and whichever fell first was the weapon to... Read more...
Epic Games has been catching a lot of heat lately for paying to make games exclusive to its Steam alternative called the Epic Games Store. Gamers are upset because many PC gamers like that Steam offers all the games they want in one place with one program to maintain. Epic Games has issued a challenge to Steam that promised to stop pursuing exclusives for the Epic Games Store if Steam would give developers a larger cut of the profits for their games. Now, Epic Games has announced that Psyonix is joining the family. Psyonix is the company behind the popular game Rocket League. Psyonix says that the move will be a positive one for Rocket League and the fan community. In the short term, nothing... Read more...
Epic Games is continuously working on new gameplay mechanics and features for the popular battle royale game Fortnite. Most recently it announced a crossover event with Avengers: End Game that saw Thanos come to the game for players to fight. Epic also launched a new patch this month bringing the game to version 8.30 and adding in reboot vans and a high explosive LTM. Typically Fortnite fans love the updates that launch, but many didn't like the 8.20 update that removed a popular game mechanic called siphoning. Siphoning allowed players to get health and shields when they eliminated opponents from the game. Epic says that it removed that mechanic because it made gameplay too aggressive. Epic... Read more...
Epic Games has caught some flak for serving up paid exclusives in its recently launched Epic Games store, such as Borderlands 3—publisher 2K Games agreed to give the Epic Games store dibs for the first six months, a decision that developer Gearbox Software had no part of. Valve has the power to stop that sort of thing though, if it agrees to certain terms. In a Twitter post, Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney called on Valve to offer a bigger chunk of revenue to developers and publishers, in exchange for no more Epic Game store exclusives. Specifically, Sweeney wants Valve to bump the revenue share on Steam to a permanent 88 percent "without major strings attached." In return, Epic... Read more...
Thanos is a bad, bad man. Or maybe he is just misunderstood. By now we all know how Avengers: Infinity War ended, and I expect this topic to be fully explored in Avengers: Endgame, which is out now and releases more broadly tomorrow. I haven't seen it, and even if I had, I'd refrain from posting spoilers. However, as it pertains to gaming, you can take the fight to Thanos in Fortnite with the latest Endgame limited time mode (LTM). "Thanos and his Chitauri are invading the Fortnite Battle Royale island searching for the six Infinity Stones. It’s up to you to acquire the Avengers: Endgame items scattered throughout the map, and take the fight to him," Epic Games explains. Should you decide... Read more...
Fortnite is one of the most popular video games in the world, and the Avengers movies are some of the most popular superhero  films. With a new Avengers film landing this week, Fortnite is having a crossover event. The Fortnite/Avengers: Endgame crossover kicks off on April 25, which is the day before the movie hits theaters. Fortnite and Marvel are offering no details on exactly what the crossover will bring at the time. All we have to go on is an image that shows a Fortnite character holding Captain America's shield. It would be easy enough to assume there will be some Avengers: Endgame skins to collect and other Avengers items. The crossover event isn't all that is going on in the Fortnite... Read more...
Cheating is rampant in some of the most popular video games that are played competitively. Cheating is undoubtedly a problem in Fortnite; Epic Games has released a report that shows that over 1,000 players were banned for cheating during the Fortnite World Cup event. However, some of the players accused of cheating deny the accusation. One player who was caught cheating was Johnny TK from Team Kaliber; he was accused of cheating by a person who sold him the cheat. Johnny TK was dropped from the team after the cheat allegations went public. Another player named Dubs FN qualified for the World Cup and was accused of buying cheats by a cheat dealer named AspectDolphin. In that case, the cheat dealer... Read more...
