Huawei is perhaps best known as the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. The Chinese company recently surpassed Apple's marketshare despite difficulties cracking the U.S. market. The company has enjoyed strong demand for their products internationally, thanks to competitive pricing and premium designs. We have previously reviewed Huawei's MateBook X Pro and Matebook D notebooks and found both to be solid values and worthy of recommendation.  At CES this year, Huawei introduced its newest ultrabook, the Matebook 13. We took it for a spin to see how it compares to Huawei's other offerings, and the competition. The MateBook 13 comes standard with a Intel Core i5-8265U clocked... Read more...
Huawei released its Mate 20 series of smartphones late last year, consisting of the Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20, and Mate 20 Lite. The Lite and Pro versions are the base and flagship models, respectively, while the Mate 20 we're looking at here today is the middle child. When comparing the Mate 20 to the Mate 20 Pro you can see Huawei has omitted some of the high-end features, such as an in-screen finger print reader and OLED display. However, you still get a large 6.53" IPS display with a 88% screen to bezel ratio (thanks to its small teardrop top notch) a large 4000mAH battery, and a camera that's nearly as good as the one in the Mate 20 Pro. So, if you can live without all the bells-and-whistles,... Read more...

After sifting though all the products we saw last week, we've compiled a list of the best products that we got time with at CES 2019. And with that, we'll just dive right in... HTC Corporation recently reported that its sales fell by more than 61% this past year. The company was plagued by acquisitions, layoffs, and resignations throughout 2018. Many analysts blame intensified global smartphone competition for HTC’s dismal numbers. This is the seventh consecutive year that HTC’s sales have decreased. The company’s total sales rang in at NT$23.74 billion ($768 million USD) or 61.78% less than last year. Their consolidated sales have consistently declined throughout 2018. December sales were 8.24% less than November sales, while their third quarter worth per shares were NT$0.65 billion ($21.1 million USD) less than quarter two. HTC was founded in 1997... Read more...

Standing out in a sea of excellent laptops is tough nowadays, especially with a metal chassis being the bare minimum point of entry to the premium class. Each company offers its own unique take – Microsoft has Alcantara keyboards, Dell offers super thin screen borders and carbon fiber, Lenovo has fancy hinges and OLED displays, Apple has its touch bar, while Asus and Acer offer value propositions. So what’s a laptop brand like HP to do when faced with tough competition and a virtual sea of options for consumers? Meet the HP Spectre Folio, the company’s latest ultra-portable 2-in-1 13-inch hybrid notebook that embraces a bit of what also makes things like luxury cars great... Read more...
It's a connected world—except when it isn't. Sure, there are a zillion (well, 280 million, according to Statista) free Wi-Fi hotspots around the world, and we're all almost always tethered to some device or another. But what about those times when you need to be connected, but aren't? Perhaps when you're on the road in a remote location, when you can't find a Wi-Fi hotspot, or when it's simply inconvenient to do so. Well, that's the problem always-connected PCs aim to solve. They're machines that use the practically ubiquitous cellular network to ensure that you don't need to worry about hotspots: If you need to get online, whether for work or pleasure, just boot up and your PC automatically... Gaming headsets are a dime a dozen these days, particularly with the explosion of eSports drawing the attention of PC peripheral companies, new and old. Be that as it may, HP figured out a way to stand out from the crowd with its new Omen Mindframe, the first audio headset to employ an active cooling solution inside each of the earcups. Say goodbye to sweaty ears, if that is something you find yourself battling against amid the throes of the frag. Before we dive into the headset, let's quickly reflect on the Omen brand. Omen is essentially a rebirth of the VoodooPC acquisition HP made more than a decade ago. VoodooPC was a popular boutique builder of premium PCs, founded by Rahul Sood, and the... Read more...
Although they are well known overseas, those of you that live in the United States are probably not as familiar with a little company called Huawei. The thing is, it isn't little, and it has been around for quite a while. In fact, Huawei has been around since 1986 and is actually the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the world. As of 2018 they are also the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, second only to Samsung. Huawei pushed Apple into third place earlier this year by taking a 15.8% stake in the worldwide market. That's impressive seeing as just three years ago Huawei's market share was only 8.7%. Not everything has come easy for the company, though. Breaking... Read more...
HP's EliteBook series laptops launched back in 2008 to general success, and a decade later it remains one of HP's top-selling thin and light laptop lines. To celebrate 10 years of that success, the company decided to completely redesigned their business class powerhouse notebook to cater to today's changing workforce. When first launched, baby boomers were still a force in the corporate world. Fast forward a decade, and many of those boomers are living out their golden years on the golf course, with millennials making up nearly half of the mainstream workforce in the United States currently. To appeal to this younger, more tech-savvy road warrior, HP claims to have reinvented their EliteBook... Read more...
Had someone asked us a year ago what we thought the top laptop brands would be heading into the summer of 2018, one name that would probably not have been mentioned is Huawei. It's not that laptops are a foreign product category to the Chinese manufacturer, it is just that Huawei is better known here in the U.S. for its smartphone lineup. It would be a mistake to overlook Huawei's new MateBook X Pro, however. Cutting right to the chase, the MateBook X Pro challenges the notion that you have to pay a hefty premium for a high-end ultraportable, one that brings all the bells and whistles that you would expect from a pricier laptop, while maintaining a thin and light profile. Typically, the compromises... Read more...
Mobile device manufacturers seem to have really stepped things up in the engineering department since the arrival of the Microsoft Surface. After racing to the bottom with netbooks for a time, things turned around, and we’ve seen an influx of high-quality systems using premiums materials. We've seen gorgeous designs from ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, especially in standard clamshell form factors. However, no one seemed to crack the code when it comes to the detachable form factor where the Microsoft Surface Pro shines. There have been some solid offerings in the space, no doubt, but the Surface Pro still sets the bar. HP takes a different approach to the detachable PC with its Zbook X2 G4... Read more...
In most major sports, there are a handful of teams that dominate the competition and garner the lion's share of attention from fans. The same is true in the smartphone market where there are relatively few established players at the top. Every so often, however, a contender comes along to potentially disrupt the hierarchy, and that is what Huawei hopes to accomplish with its newest flagship phone, the Mate 10 Pro. Who exactly is Huawei, you ask? While not as recognizable in the US market as Apple and Samsung, Huawei is no Johnny-come-lately to the land of mobile. Huawei is a major player in China and is actually the largest telecommunications hardware and services company in the world. The company's... Read more...
