Cyberpunk 2077 is notorious for game-breaking bugs and poor performance. These issues have caused the game to be unavailable to PlayStation 4 owners until recently. However, these problems do not seem to have deterred eager consumers. Cyberpunk 2077 was the most downloaded game on the PlayStation 4 during June 2021 in the United States and Europe. Cyberpunk 2077 was pulled from the PlayStation store this past December. The game played decently on the latest consoles and on PC, but was simply a mess on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. CD Projekt Red (CPDR), Sony, and Microsoft all offered refunds to disgruntled consumers. CDPR admitted that they had not spent as much time focusing on the quality... Read more...
Without a doubt, this has been one of the worst years for gamers, in terms of being able to buy hardware. It doesn't matter if you're a PC gamer or a console gamer, the hardware for your platform of choice has been affected by a silicon shortage, scalpers, and other factors. As it pertains to the console side, the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 have been tremendously difficult to find in stock, and now the same is true of last-gen systems. Don't believe it? Head over to Best Buy and search for an Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, PlayStation 4, or PlayStation 4 Pro. Here is a sample of what you will see... Once you have struck out, head over to Walmart and look up the same consoles. You will... Read more...
We first noticed last week that Sony would lift its PlayStation Store ban on Cyberpunk 2077. The game was booted from the PlayStation Store shortly after its release in December 2020 due to a litany of performance/gameplay issues and a plethora of bugs that made running the game on PlayStation hardware unbearable. Today, the game reemerged on the PlayStation Store, following months of significant updates and smaller hotfixes from developer CD Projekt Red. The last big update, Patch 1.23, landed on June 17th and brought some much-needed fixes (and polish) for missions, gameplay, and overall performance. Users may continue to experience some performance issues with the PS4 edition while we continue... Read more...
Do you own a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 console? If so, then heads up that Sony has unlocked a whole bunch of games you can add to your library at no cost. Heck, even if you don't own one of the aforementioned game systems, it would be worth adding these games while you can, in case you ever do buy a PlayStation 4/5. All you need is a PlayStation account, which you can create for free. Once you have one, you can head to the PlayStation Store and claim the games Sony is gifting as part of its Play at Home initiative, which is meant to encourage users to stay inside during the pandemic. There are nine games in total, or 10 if you count Ratchet & Clank, which is still free for a few more... Read more...
Sony is getting in the groove of giving games away to PlayStation owners, and we could not be happier about it. Last month, for example, it gifted Ratchet & Clank to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners (there's still time to claim your copy, more on that in a moment). And later this spring, it will be handing out digital copies of Horizon Zero Dawn (shown above), in between which there are nine other games up for grabs. If you have not done so already, we suggest heading to the PlayStation Store, logging into your account, and grabbing Ratchet & Clank while you still can. It is completely free—no subscription to PlayStation Plus is necessary. However, time is running out to claim... Read more...
How big will Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it's Warzone spin-off, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War ultimately get before all is said and done? Even Activision may not have a definitive answer to that question. However, the publisher did warn that the latest update could prove too bulky for some base model PlayStation 4 console owners, who may have to delete some content to make room. Activision has begun pushing out the Season Two update, and like previous ones, it requires a lot of storage space. So much, in fact, that Activision issued a warning to PS4 owners. "Those who own a standard PlayStation 4 with a default hard drive of 500GB may need to make room if they have the full versions... Read more...
The past year has been a difficult one, and in an effort to encourage people to stay inside during the pandemic, Sony in 2020 launched its Play at Home initiative, giving PlayStation 4 owners a pair of free games: Uncharted The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey. Now for 2021, Sony is reviving its Play at Home program with another free title, Ratchet & Clank (rebooted for PS4) by Insomniac Games. "In these historic times, the team at PlayStation wanted to thank the community by giving something back. These days, we could all use something to look forward to and another reason to stay safely socially distanced, so we are happy to be able to offer a free selection of great games and some entertainment... One day after we reported on Sony's refusal offer refunds to gamers that are upset about the bugs and general unpolished nature of Cyberpunk 2077, Sony is reversing its stance. We suggested at the end of our article that Sony should make an exception and allow refunds given how upset PlayStation 4 gamers have been about the game's performance on their consoles. In a tweet posted tonight, Sony Interactive Entertainment addressed the matter head-on. In a statement, the company explained: SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, and we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store and want a refund. Please... Read more...
The refund situation over regarding Cyberpunk 2077 is starting to get a bit murkier... at least if you bought the PlayStation 4 version of the game. Earlier this week, developer CD Projekt Red (CDPR) addressed the controversy over poor performance, numerous bugs, and horrible graphics on previous generation consoles by telling customers that they could request a refund. "We'd would appreciate it if you would give us a chance, but if you are not pleased with the game on your console and don't want to wait for updates, you can opt to refund your copy," said CDPR in a tweet on Monday. "For copies purchased digitally, please use the refund system of PSN or Xbox respectively."... Read more...
We know a few things about next-gen game consoles and graphics cards. Like, the PlayStation 5 is fire (in a good way). So is the Xbox Series X, and the same can be said of AMD's Radeon RX 6000 series and NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 30 series. All good hardware for playing Cyberpunk 2077. You know what might not be good hardware for the game? Last-gen consoles. At long last, Cyberpunk 2077 is out, bringing with it all of its graphical glory and advanced effects, like real-time ray tracing. On the right hardware, it is a visual splendor. But on older hardware—the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One—let's just say the graphics take a hit. To highlight this, users have been uploading videos and images... Read more...
Yesterday, thousands of PlayStation accounts were banned, primarily in Hong Kong, in what has been dubbed the “SIE Thanksgiving Day Massacre.”  Initially these accounts did not have an obvious reason for being banned, but ultimately it was found that they all had a recent receipt for Sony’s PlayStation Plus Collection in common. Sony's PlayStation Plus Collection is meant for new PlayStation 5 owners looking to score some great PS4 games as part of their new subscription. The PlayStation Plus Collection is a group of 20 PS4 games given out to PS5 owners who are part of the PlayStation Plus subscription. The collection includes games such as Battlefield 1, God of War, Fallout... Read more...
We’ve been hearing conflicting news about PlayStation 5 backwards compatibility over the past few months, but Sony is looking to set the records straight in a support document today. Thankfully for those gamers out there with an extensive PlayStation 4 game catalog, you’re in luck. Sony say that the vast majority of the over 4,000 games available on the PlayStation 4 are playable on the PlayStation 5. Even better is the fact that some of these games will support Game Boost technology, which will use the immense processing power of the AMD Zen 2-based CPU and Radeon RDNA 2 GPU to deliver increased FPS and smoother playback. However, backwards compatibility isn’t perfect, as you... Read more...
A multiplayer co-op mode is headed to Ghost of Tsushima for the PlayStation 4 (PS4), Darren Bridges, senior game designer for Sucker Punch Productions, announced in a blog post on Monday. It will be offered as a free download sometime this fall, with the promise of the expansion being an "entirely new experience" that does not follow Jin or the companions from his journey. The expansion is called Legends and it will focus on four warriors who have been built up as legends in stories told by the people of Tsushima. "Ghost of Tsushima’s single-player campaign focuses on an open world and exploring the natural beauty of the island, but Legends is haunting and fantastical, with locations and... Read more...
Sony is celebrating PlayStation Plus, which launched on June 29, 2010. While taking time to thank everyone who supported PlayStation Plus over the last decade, several new games are also being added to the service. The new games available for PS Plus members lands on July 7 and are available until August 3. The first of the games is a very popular one: NBA 2K20. This game is interesting because it was more than a typical basketball simulator offering players an open-world neighborhood that allowed them to explore and play together. The game also has an upgraded motion engine, advanced shooting controls, a dribble size-up system, and lots more. This is one of the most popular entries in the... Read more...
Sony has announced via an official PlayStation blog post that it has launched a new bug bounty program for the PlayStation 4 game console in collaboration with the security platform HackerOne. Sony says that it started the Bug Bounty program because security is a fundamental part of creating amazing experiences for the community. The program has rewards in place for various issues, including critical issues on the PS4. Those who discover a critical vulnerability for the PS4 are eligible for bounties as high as $50,000. The image below shows the range of bounties offered for issues of different types. PlayStation says that it was running this bug bounty program privately with some security researchers... Making good on its promise, developer Hello Games is bringing No Man's Sky to Xbox Game Pass on Thursday, June 11. Same goes for a Windows 10 version, which will be part of the Game Pass for PC program starting on the same day. Good stuff, though even better, Hello Games also announced crossplay support for No Man's Sky. "We are excited to be able to announce that, starting tomorrow [Thursday, June 11], PlayStation 4 players, Xbox One players, and PC players will all be able to explore, journey, survive, build, and trade together. Excitingly, No Man’s Sky is joining what is at the moment a fairly small group of games which support cross-platform multiplayer," Hello Games announced today.... Read more...
It seems Sony is not messing around with regards to backwards compatibility on its upcoming PlayStation 5 console, which is scheduled to arrive towards the end of the year (holiday 2020, so likely November or December). To ensure as few hiccups as possible, Sony has put the word out to developers that starting July 13, any new PlayStation 4 games must also work on the PS5. Backwards compatibility could be a big selling point, considering how games are available on the PS4. Initially, there was some confusion about how many existing titles would work on the PS5. During a specs reveal, Sony's Mark Cerny the company "recently took a look at the top 100 PS4 titles as ranked by play time, and we're... Read more...
Sony is gifting PlayStation 4 owners with a couple of free games, those being Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey. The freebie offer is Sony's way of thanking PS4 owners for "doing their part to lessen the impact" of the COVID-19 virus by staying at home and playing video games during this time of recommended isolation. "People all over the world are doing the right thing by staying home to help contain the spread of COVID–19. We are deeply grateful to everyone practicing physical distancing and take our responsibility as a home entertainment platform seriously, so we are asking our community to continue supporting the safe choice and the need to Play At Home," Sony stated... Square Enix is making good on its past promise that fans would be able to get Final Fantasy VII Remake themes for their PS4 console. A theme is now available for anyone who downloads the Final Fantasy VII Remake Demo before May 11. PS4 players who are also PS Plus members can get another free theme that shows Cloud looking towards the city of Midgar. Fans who like themes for their PlayStation had access to a third PS4 theme with Sephiroth as the focus. That theme was only available as a preorder bonus for players who ordered the Final Fantasy VII Remake via Amazon. Those who want all three themes will need to download the demo, join PS Plus, and to have preordered the game on Amazon. The second... Read more...
While many folks today are enjoying Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and its Call of Duty: Warzone battle royale add-on, there's another member of popular franchise launching tomorrow. As confirmed by a listing found on the German-language version of the PSN, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is launching tomorrow, March 31st. According to the listing, only the Modern Warfare 2 campaign mode is included in this remastered edition. That will be somewhat disappointing for those that were expecting to see a multiplayer component, as it was included in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered (which bowed four years ago).   Once we ran the listing through... Sony recently hosted a more in-depth specs reveal for its upcoming PlayStation 5 console, just as Microsoft did with its Xbox Series X, so we now have a better idea of the hardware and features that will make it tick. One question that still remained, however, is how extensive backwards compatibility would be on the PS4. We now have a better idea of that as well, and it's welcome news. When Mark Cerny took to a faux stage in a setting that looked like a Mystery Science Theater 3000 shoot, he stated that Sony "recently took a look at the top 100 PS4 titles as ranked by play time, and we're expecting almost all of them to be playable at launch on PS5." He also noted there are "more than 4,000 games... Read more...
Image from NetEase We so far know very little about any upcoming PlayStation 5 games, despite the fact that we know quite a bit about the console's hardware. Both PlayStation and video game developers have been tight-lipped about future offerings. However, one description hints that a major battle royale game will be available on the PlayStation 5. A NetEase employee indicated that they were helping to bring Knives Out to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The employee stated on LinkedIn that they had served as the department art director/product manager for the Knives Out team. Their description indicated that the game is in full development for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Daniel... Read more...
