Apple's iPad Pro family just received a minor refresh with a slight bump in SoC performance, an additional rear camera, and LiDAR support. Long-time rival Samsung is also working on its next-generation professional tablets, and we have some fresh information on what exactly the company has in store for customers. In a new report from SamMobile, it's being reported that Samsung is developing two new Android tablets that will carry SM-T87x and SM-T97x model numbers. The former refers to new 11-inch models, while the latter refers to 12.4-inch models. This compares favorably to the iPad Pro family, which is available in both 11-inch and 12.9-inch display sizes. They also put them a step... Read more...
As far as Apple is concerned, your next computer is not a computer, it is a high-tech tablet, and specifically the new iPad Pro. Powered by an also-new 8-core A12Z Bionic system-on-chip (SoC), Apple claims its latest iPad Pro is "faster and more powerful than most Windows PC laptops." Does the bold claim stack up? Well, it's certainly a versatile tablet. "The new iPad Pro introduces advanced technologies never before available in mobile computing," said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "Combining the most advanced mobile display with powerful performance, pro cameras, pro audio, the breakthrough LiDAR scanner and new Magic Keyboard with Trackpad, this... Read more...
When Apple introduced the first iPhone way back in 2007, it was a device that was very much married to a PC or Mac. You needed a computer to activate the device, perform OS updates, install music, transfer contacts, etc. However, over the years, the iPhone has grown so independent that it doesn't need a computer for much of anything at all. Well, unless you need to restore the firmware of your device in the case of a system failure, or if you want to rid yourself of beta software and get back on a "production" iOS track. Fortunately, the code sleuths over at 9to5Mac have uncovered evidence that Apple is working on over-the-air (OTA) mechanism for restoring iOS/iPadOS software/device... Read more...
Apple's iPhone 11 Pro family ushered in the era of triple-camera iOS devices, and it looks as though the company is looking to extend that functionality to its workhorse iPad Pro family. Thanks to new renders by way of OnLeaks, we're getting a look at the design of the next-generation professional tablets. From the front, not much appears to have changed compared to the current-generation 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro tablets. That means that we're looking at a minimalist design with relatively thin bezels all around. And unlike the iPhone family, there is enough bezel available to house the Face ID hardware so that there is no unsightly notch to ruin the viewing experience. Speaking of... Read more...
Just last month, Apple out of the blue launched its 16-inch MacBook Pro flagship laptop, which includes a higher resolution display, a better keyboard, and a larger battery. However, a new research note from popular Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that another big update for the laptop is coming next year. Apple is said to be moving from a traditional LCD panel to Mini-LED technology, which is something that we've heard rumored for years now. However, Kuo says that the switch will happen by late 2020. The new Mini-LED displays will allegedly "significantly improve productivity and the entertainment experience", which doesn't really give us much to go on. However, a MacBook Pro with... Read more...
It looks as though the rampant speculation was accurate; Apple will hold its next hardware keynote address on September 10th. Apple likely has a full plate of announcements lined up on that date, with the headlining devices being the 2019 family of iPhones. Although it's unlikely that many would consider Apple to be at the forefront of innovation in smartphones these days, the invite proudly announces "By innovation only". With that said, there will be at least three iPhone models announced at the event with assumed iPhone 11 branding. These smartphones will in essence replace the current iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. There is also speculation that the two flagship models might be called iPhone... Read more...
It is getting to be about that time when Apple refreshes its consumer hardware. So, what is on tap for this year? The latest leaks and rumors point to Apple launching new iPhone Pro models, new iPad Pro tablets, and a long overdue revamp to the MacBook Pro, to go along with another round of Apple Watch devices and various other things. Apple is already on its second round of iPhone X devices—the latest models include the iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS, and iPhone XR. That means it is time for a new generation of iPhone handsets. Assuming Apple sticks to the same script it has been using since 2017, it will launch three iPhone models, probably sometime in September. iPhone Pro People who are apparently... Read more...
If you're in the market for a new tablet, Best Buy is running some rather remarkable deals on consumer and professional tablets from Apple. Both the standard 9.7-inch iPad and the 11-inch iPad Pro are available with a steep discount with free shipping or free in-store pickup. First up is the 9.7-inch iPad, which normally rings in at $329 for the 32GB model. However, Best Buy is currently selling the upgraded 128GB iPad for an even lower price of $299 (available in Silver, Space Gray or Gold). The regular price for the 256GB SKU is $429, so this represents a $130 discount. Amazon is currently selling the 32GB iPad for $249, but this deal from Best Buy is a far better deal in our opinion --... Read more...
When it comes to Apple's 2019 iPhone family, we know quite a bit about the smartphones already, especially with respect to their designs. From the front, the smartphones are expected to look nearly identical to their 2018 counterparts, but out back, they're expected to add an additional camera inside a square housing. According to the latest rumors coming from the Japanese blog Mac Otakara, Apple will be using the same -- or at least visually similar -- square camera pod on the 2019 iPad Pro family. Even more dramatically, it's said that the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models will now have three cameras, putting them on par with the 2019 iPhone Pro. This is a big upgrade considering... After weeks of leaks, Samsung's Galaxy Tab S6 professional tablet has finally been officially unveiled to the world. If you've been following our coverage on the leaks, you're probably already familiar with the looks of the Galaxy Tab S6, but Samsung today is confirming many of the specs and features that were previously rumored. The most dominant feature of the Galaxy Tab S6 is of course its large 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display (2560x1600 resolution). The bezels are relatively narrow around the display, giving it a similar appearance to the most recent iPad Pro models from Apple. However, whereas the iPad Pro manages slim bezels by ditching the old and tired home button for Face... Read more...
Apple hasn't exactly had smooth sailing with its high-end and ultra-expensive iPad Pro. The tablet was criticized in what has been called "bendgate" because it is prone to bending under minimal pressure. A bizarre problem has now been confirmed by Apple, and if you own the iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil, this issue might have never crossed your mind as being caused by the devices. Apple has warned in an updated Apple Pencil support document that some users have seen interference when charging the second-gen Apple Pencil with an iPad Pro, which is preventing some vehicles' keyless entry fobs from unlocking the door. The issue arose for some when walking to their car and carrying the iPad Pro while... Read more...
Spring is in the air, which means that we’re starting to hear more about the next version of iOS that powers iPhones and iPads. Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is scheduled to kick off on June 3rd, but a new report is already shedding some light on what we can except in iOS 13. The first addition is something that has been requested from Apple fans for a long time: a true systemwide dark mode. Apple has already introduced dark mode with macOS, so it’s only natural that the company would want to extend this feature to iOS. According to 9to5Mac, the feature won’t be enabled by default, and will instead be accessible via the Settings menu. A... Read more...
A growing chorus of iPad Pro owners are complaining of screen stuttering and other display issues, including loss of touch functionality and stuck buttons on the onscreen keyboard. In some cases, simply wiping down the display with a microfiber cloth can help, though the problem does not appear to be a dirty display for everyone who is having issues. "Hello all, after the last two updates my iPad Pro 12.9-inch 2nd gen has issues with not responsive screen often. I need to exit the application or click the home button multiple times or lock the screen and all goes well after. Did a factory reset but nothing helped. Anyone else with the same issue? I hope it is software," a user complained on MacRumors'... Read more...
Apple has had a rough couple of months following the release of it's 2018 iPad Pro after it was discovered that the device bends easily under minimal pressure. Apple attempted to explain away any appearances of bending with the iPad Pro by claiming that it's normal for the iPad Pro to be bent from the factory. Apple's Vice President of Hardware Engineering, Dan Riccio, also attempted to sweep the problem under the proverbial rug by claiming that the iPad Pro meets or exceeds all of the company's high quality standards. These efforts by Apple have done little to quell the discontent of the company's customers, however, and Apple today released additional information about the iPad Pro's design... Read more...
