Apple gadget fans will be cringing at JerryRigEverything's latest video, where he takes a brand new 11" iPad Pro out of the box and proceed to destroy it. The video also shows the destruction of an Apple Pencil. The bending test video starts with the Apple Pencil that breaks with a surprising amount of ease; only slightly more than the force it takes to break a normal wooden pencil was needed to break the Apple Pencil. Beware placing an Apple Pencil in your pocket as it might not survive but that was just the beginning of the mayhem. To make matters worse, the battery inside the Apple Pencil isn't one of the lithium-ion types that are solid and flexible. The battery in the wirelessly charging... Read more...
Apple recently refreshed its iPad Pro line with faster hardware and new features, and while many things are different, one thing remains the same—they are difficult to crack open and repair, should the need arise. That's par for course these days and not endemic to Apple, of course. The latest generation iPad Pro is just another example of how DIY repairs are not really feasible for the average consumer, as indicated by a teardown of the tablet. As they often do, the folks at iFixit got their hands on the new gadget and promptly stripped it naked, taking apart the tablet until the premium designed device was reduced to a pile of parts on a table. And as usual, they encountered plenty of... Read more...

One of the big upgrades to the newest iPad Pro is the custom A12X Bionic chip inside, complete with a neural engine. This burly processor is at the heart of Apple's claim that the iPad Pro is "more powerful than most computers." But is it really? We'll say this—it's fast, based on a leaked benchmark run of the A12X Bionic at Geekbench. It needs to be fast in order for Apple to justify its marketing strategy for the iPad Pro. It's still a tablet, but from Apple's vantage point, it can keep up with (and surpass) a traditional PC, while offering the type of portability that's inherent in a tablet form factor. "iPad Pro features the A12X Bionic chip with a Neural Engine. Which transforms how... Read more...
Apple today pulled wraps off its all-new iPad Pro, which is the biggest design change to the professionally-oriented tablet since it first debuted in 2015. The bezels around the display have shrunken, and as you can clearly see, the venerable Home button has been jettisoned. Apple first completely removed the Home button on the iPhone X and continued the tradition with the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. Now that the iPad Pro no longer has a button on its front face, it too has adopted Face ID for authentication (like its iPhone siblings).  However, whereas the iPhone family can only authenticate your face in a vertical orientation, the iPad Pro -- which is now available in... Apple is expected to announce its next-generation iPad Pro and a few other devices at a scheduled press event at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on October 30. In the days leading up to the event, a new beta build of iOS 12 has emerged, along with with a giant hint that the upcoming iPad Pro refresh will feature Face ID support. There has been a whole bunch of rumors surrounding the iPad Pro leading in past several weeks. Back in September, noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that Apple would ditch the Lightning connector on the new model in favor of the more common USB-C interface, though he wasn't clear if it would be used for anything other than charging the tablet. Going back even further,... Read more...
What is Apple brewing up? The company recently sent out invitations to members of the media for their October 30th event in Brooklyn, New York. The media invites featured various Apple logo designs and promised that “there’s more in the making”. The October 30th event will likely feature other Apple products besides iPhones and Apple Watches, which were unveiled last month. There have already been a number of leaks for a new iPad Pro, and it is expected to resemble the iPhone X thanks to the removal of the home button, thinner bezels, and a TrueDepth camera system that will incorporate Face ID. It is also rumored that the iPad Pro will be available in 11- and 12.9-inch display... Read more...
There were a lot of Apple fans out there who were a bit disappointed when the iPhone event came and went with no detail on the rumored new iPad Pro tablets. Rumors continue to suggest that Apple will hold an event this month where the new iPad Pro will get official. All we have to go on right now are tidbits gleaned from icons and rumor about the new tablets. Apple is expected to go with very slim bezels on the device with no notch; this style was tipped in an icon that was uncovered in iOS 12. A new leak has revealed some details about the 2018 iPad Pro that allegedly come from people familiar with what Apple has planned. One of the most interesting tidbits in the leak is that the new iPad Pro... Read more...
Apple has begun pushing out its iOS 12.1 update in beta form, and in doing so the Cupertino company may have revealed some new details about upcoming features and products that have not yet been announced. Taking things a step further, the iOS 12.1 beta appears to confirm a new iPad Pro model coming out before the end of the year. Source: @OnLeaks via MySmartPrice We have already seen leaks pertaining to a new iPad Pro. Earlier this month, prominent leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (@onleaks) posted a link on Twitter to several "official looking" renders of an upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Pro. He couldn't confirm the renders were accurate, but they were interesting nonetheless. Sooo... I can't confirm this... Read more...
One of the things that annoys lots of people about Apple and its products is the company's reliance on proprietary charging tech. While many tablets and smartphones use a standard USB port for charging, Apple relies on the proprietary Lightning port. Noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stepped up on the eve of Apple's event with some last-minute predictions. One of his predictions is that Apple will be ditching the Lighting connector on the 2018 iPad Pro and moving to the more common USB-C interface. Kuo isn't clear if that USB-C port will be usable for anything other than charging the iPad Pro. According to the analyst, the move from Lightning to USB-C will be the main update for the new... September 12th is the data that Apple has penciled in to launch new iPhones and new tablets (and perhaps some additional hardware products). We have seen leaks that claim to give a glimpse at what the new iPhone XS will look like along with the coming Apple Watch refresh. The new iPhones are expected to have refreshed internals and new colors offered. We haven't heard much about what Apple has in store for its new iPad Pro tablets, other than a leaked icon from iOS 12 that showed a tablet with much thinner bezels. Now OnLeaks and MySmartPrice have teamed up to offer new renders based on leaked information. The source information used for these renders is from OnLeaks and shows a tablet that very... We're getting our first look at Apple's next-generation iPad Pro, and surprisingly, it's not coming from a supply chain leak. Instead, it's Apple that has leaked the details courtesy of the newly-released iOS 12 Beta 5. As was the case last year when a glyph of the iPhone X confirmed the shape of the device before its official reveal, this new iPad glyph tells us a whole lot with just a few pixels. For starters, the bezels around the display are a lot smaller; especially along the top and bottom of the device. This has allowed Apple to expand the size of the display while apparently keeping similar exterior dimensions. It also looks as though Apple has been able to squeeze in an... Read more...
Apple is set to unveil its next generation iPad Pro models this fall, and we've got a fresh round of rumors with regards to what to expect. As before, there will be two sizes: the smaller 10.5-inch model, which will be joined by the 12.9-inch model. The smaller of the two will be roughly 6 mm thick, while the larger one is slightly thinker at 6.4 mm.  This will be complete redesign of the iPad Pro family, and Apple is said to have trimmed the bezels all around. Apple has reportedly killed off the home button, just as it did when the iPhone X was introduced in the fall of 2017. In its place will be Face ID, which was also first seen on the iPhone X. Although the iPad can traditionally be... Read more...
Adobe is looking to further entrench itself into the mobile market with a full-fledged version of Photoshop for the iPad. The company already offers a number of Photoshop companion apps for the iOS platform including Photoshop Express and Photoshop Mix, but this will be Adobe’s first attempt to bring a near-desktop-class photo editing package to the iPad. The news of the company’s intention to give iPad users a more complete version of Photoshop comes courtesy of Scott Belsky, Adobe Chief Product Officer for Creative Cloud. He says that Adobe is working on a cross-platform version of Photoshop that will offer users the ability to start a project on the desktop and complete it unhindered... Read more...
We're still a little less than three weeks away from the commercial launch of the iPhone X, but the rumor mill is already stirring the pot when it comes to Apple's next product release. In this case, one famed Apple analyst claims to have the inside scoop on the next generation iPad Pro family.According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the 10.5- and 12.9-inch iPad Pro tablets that will launch next year will feature the TrueDepth camera system that is one of the headlining features of the iPhone X. The TrueDepth camera system includes an infrared camera, flood illuminator and dot projector to enable the Face ID facial recognition system. This allows you to unlock your iPhone X just by looking... Read more...
The $999 iPhone X isn't the only Apple product that gave consumer sticker shock when it was announced yesterday; the company also took the highly unusual step of actually raising the price on one of its popular product lines. In this case, the unlucky target was the iPad Pro, which is available in both 10.5- and 12.9-inch form-factors. Apple of course wasn't going to announced the bad news during its keynote, so it took a keen observer, MacRumors, to spot that 256GB and 512GB versions of the iPad Pro are now $50 more expensive. It doesn't matter if you choose the Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi+LTE models; the $50 price hike is now in effect across all color variations. The only members of the iPad Pro family... Read more...
If you ask Apple about its recently refreshed 10.5-inch iPad Pro tablet, the Cupertino outfit will tell you that it is more powerful than most PC laptops, a bold claim to be sure. That is largely due to the custom A10X Fusion processor that is tucked inside. It is actually a pretty impressive piece of silicon, and one of a small number of chips being designed on a 10-nanometer manufacturing process. Andy Wei at TechInsights took a microscope to the A10X Fusion chip, which it reports is being produced by TSMC on a 10nm FinFET process. What is especially interesting about the design is that the die size is considerably smaller than the previous generation A9X SoC—it measures just 96.4mm2, down... Read more...
It has been an interesting thing to witness Microsoft's transformation over the past several years. Give Steve Ballmer credit—he knew that Microsoft needed fresh blood and so he handed the reins Satya Nadella. Microsoft has been a different company ever since, one that innovates in the hardware space. Even Apple is following Microsoft's lead, or at least that is what the Redmond outfit will tell you in regards to the iPad Pro.Ryan Gavin, general manager for Surface, said the iPad Pro is a "clear example" of Apple following in Microsoft's footsteps. That has not always been the case and these days, Gavin says that even though Microsoft pays attention to the competition, the company does not really... Read more...
The industry's emphasis on increasingly thin and light devices has not come without a cost. The do-it-yourself (DIY) repair enthusiast has largely been shunned in recent years, especially by Apple, which both thrives in the mobile space and has never really cared about making its products easy to service at home. As such, it is not the least bit surprising that its new 10.5-inch iPad Pro is a bear to repair.Apple is far from alone in this regard, it just happens to leads the charge, and in particular with its iPhone and iPad products. In this case, the company's newest iPad Pro model sticks to a familiar script of using "strong adhesive" to hold the chassis shut. On the plus side, the thinner... Read more...
Apple is still embracing the tablet form-factor, and that is readily apparent with the new all-new 10.5-inch iPad Pro, which replaces the previous generation 9.7-inch model. The 10.5-inch iPad is largely able to keep the same dimensions and weight of its predecessor by shrinking the bezels to accommodate the larger display. The new 10.5-inch iPad Pro joins a refreshed 12.9-inch model, both of which include TrueTone displays that are 50 percent brighter. The displays also incorporate ProMotion technology, which is just a fancy way of saying that they have a refresh rate of 120Hz instead of 60Hz. The faster refresh rate also means that “inking” with the Apple Pencil is even faster and smoother... Read more...
Apple is widely expected to announce new iPads at a keynote event next month, where the main topic of discussion will be the arrival of two new iPad Pro models. Apple will reportedly reveal a second generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro which will launch alongside a new iPad Pro with a 10.5-inch display. Both new iPad Pros models are expected to incorporate an Apple A10X SoC, 12MP rear iSight cameras and True Tone display (which makes use of four-channel ambient light sensors). Apple will also reportedly release a new “budget” 9.7-inch iPad which will replace the iPad Air 2. This refreshed tablet will use an A9X SoC. It remains to be seen if this lineup revamp will help revive the iPad segment, which... Read more...
It may be hard to believe, but it has now been 7 years since then CEO Apple CEO Steve Jobs (RIP) unveiled the original iPad. At the time, Apple heralded the iPad as a reinvention of mobile computing; a device that could do most of what your desktop or notebook could do, but in a smaller, lighter form-factor. Initially available in only a 9.7-inch display size, sales of the iPad quickly took off, skyrocketing to become Apple’s No. 2 revenue generator right behind the iPhone. It wasn’t long before Apple began to expand its lineup, adding the smaller 7.9-inch iPad mini in 2012, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro in late 2015, and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro in early 2016. However, over the years, it appears that... Read more...
