Samsung is ending the work week with a bang. Yesterday the company launched its much-anticipated Galaxy Note 9 handset, and today it is opening up preorders for the device. Pricing starts at $999.99 so it is not for the faint of wallet or purse, however there are buy one, get one (BOGO) offers available at Best Buy to significantly soften the blow. Before we get to more pricing details, let's quickly recap the specs. The Galaxy Note 9 wields a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2960x1440 resolution (18.5:9 aspect ratio), 83.4 percent screen-to-body ratio, and HDR support, and Gorilla Glass 5... Read more...
ASUS is shaking things up in the smartphone market with a budget phone that is the antithesis of a $1,000 handset like Sony's Xperia XZ2 Premium. The company's new ZenFone Live (L1) costs a fraction of that at $109.99, planting itself firmly in affordable territory, and if you want one you will have to head over to Best Buy where it is exclusively available for the moment. As you might imagine, the ZenFone Live is not rocking the latest and greatest hardware at that price point. Whereas flagship handsets typically sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip, the ZenFone Live (L1) is powered by a modest... Read more...

Video may have killed the radio star, as The Buggles so famously put it nearly four decades ago, but what the band couldn't have predicted at the time is that digital streaming would murder physical media. Best Buy is now an accomplice—the retail electronics chain recently told music suppliers that it was pulling CDs from its stores this month. If you walk into a Best Buy location, there is a good chance you will no longer see rows of music CDs. When communicating its decision to music suppliers, the company said it was yanking them on July 1, this past Sunday. This led to reports that Best... Read more...
There's no question that Samsung's Galaxy series are among the most popular Android smartphones on the planet. The newest entries into the family -- the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ -- launched earlier the year and were most recently embiggened with larger storage capacities. Now, Samsung is adding a new color to the mix for those that haven't yet upgraded their smartphone: Sunrise Gold. Sunrise Gold joins the existing range of colors that include Lilac Purple, Coral Blue and Midnight Black. The gold-tinged Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will still have an all-black front like the other colors offered. ... Read more...
A gang of thieves in Georgia must be big fans of Ethan Hunt and the Mission Impossible series. The thieves had their eyes on expensive Apple gear located in a Best Buy store, and decided that rather than go through the front door (or even more inconspicuously through the back entrance) it would be better to go in through the roof.  These thieves decided to cut a hole through the roof of the Best Buy and rappel down into the store. In fact, they were so meticulous in their heist that they lowered themselves down right into a storage room that had was filled with a highly-profitable stash of... Read more...

It's not too often that we see epic deals on gaming notebooks, but Best Buy is currently running a promotion on the Acer Nitro 5 that made us do a double take. The laptop comes with some pretty stout specs and will only set you to back $599 (plus tax, of course). That price will get you a 15.6-inch Full HD (1920x1080) IPS display with Acer ComfyView technology to reduce screen glare. The display is backed up by an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU with 4GB of GDDR5 memory onboard.  Powering the system is an Intel 7th generation (Kaby Lake) Core i5-7300HQ quad-core processor with... In a blow to gamers who like scoring brand-new game titles at better prices than the norm, Best Buy has decided to cancel its popular Gamers Club program. To many, Best Buy may not have seemed like the de facto place to pick up the hottest new console or PC game, but the company's Gamers Club made sticking with the company a no-brainer, or at least it used to. With the simple $30 annual membership, gamers could save 20% off of any new game, which means that the card would be quickly paid off after only a few purchases. Beyond that, the card enabled a 10% trade-in bonus, 10% off pre-owned games,... Read more...
Best Buy and Amazon are fierce rivals in the electronics market, with the former having a big presence in the brick and mortar side of things, while the latter absolutely dominates the online sector. The two companies inked a multi-year partnership that will see Best Buy as the exclusive retailer for Insignia- and Toshiba-branded Fire TV Edition smart TVs. These sets will be sold at both Best Buy's brick and mortar and online stores. In addition, the TVs will be sold via the Amazon... Read more...
Huawei might be one of the largest smartphone OEMs in the world, but the company is having a very hard time breaking into the U.S. market. The reason for the difficulty is that Huawei has very close ties to the Chinese government, and the U.S. government is balking over fears of spying that could compromise national security. Huawei has now taken another significant blow in its plans to enter the U.S. market. The largest big box electronics retailer in the U.S., Best Buy, has ceased ordering new smartphones from Huawei and plans to stop selling Huawei products altogether over the next few... Read more...
Huawei has found it difficult to make inroads in the U.S. smartphone market. Some of the company's troubles have to do with the U.S. government fearing that Huawei, a company with close ties to the Chinese government, might use those devices to spy on Americans. That fear has led to government pressure that has stopped both AT&T and Verizon from selling Huawei phones directly to consumers. Huawei opted to sell its devices directly to customers via retailers like Best Buy and others. Reports now indicate that Huawei is soliciting fake reviews via a private Facebook group to get fans to post... Read more...
In what can be considered a sign of the times, Best Buy has reportedly told music supplies that it is phasing out sales of physical CDs. Interestingly enough, the electronics chain will continue to carry vinyl records, a music medium that predates CDs but has seen a resurgence in recent years. Best Buy will merchandise vinyl with turntables, or record players if you prefer the old school term. Besides vinyl, streaming music is where it's at these days. Spotify is the top streaming music service globally and still boasts the most paid subscribers in the United States, though Apple Music is on pace... Read more...
When it comes to AI smart speakers currently on the market, the two dominant players on the market are Amazon's Alexa-powered Echo family and the newly expanded Google Home family. During the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales bonanza, the "original" Google Home was available for as low as $79, which is a $50 price break from its normal MSRP. However, Best Buy is far surpassing those deals with its current two-pack offer on the Google Home. The $129 price that you would normally pay for a single Google Home will instead get you two for the same price. So, you're essentially pay $65 for each Google... Read more...
