Sometimes making it into a beta test for a new service seems as unlikely as hitting the lottery. Some folks may have thought when Google announced Project Stream earlier this month and invited people to sign up for a chance at the beta test for the service, the odds of getting in on a Google beta for a completely new service were slim. As it turns out, it appears that Google invited everyone who signed up for the beta. If you signed up, check your email because you probably have an invite sitting there. Inside the welcome email is a setup code unique to each user. To play you go to the Project Stream website, where you enter your setup code, agree that you are 17-years old or older, and agree... Ubisoft is ramping up its efforts to curb hate speech, including racist and generally toxic comments, in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. The publisher has flipped the switch on a system that automatically doles out instant bans to Rainbow Six Siege players who violate the company's code of conduct in such a manner, and some of the banned players have taken to Twitter to complain about it. The policies that prohibit racial slurs and other types of defamatory comments are not new—Ubisoft stated in April that it was tracking the frequency of racial and homophobic slurs and would be applying bans with increasing severity. At the time, Ubisoft said the bans would last 2 days, 7 days, 15 days,... Read more...
The next installment in the Assassin's Creed franchise will be set in ancient Greece, as has been rumored for several months now. Ubisoft confirmed as much with a very short teaser video that it posted to social media. The incredibly short clip plays just long enough to see a character clad in ancient digs kicking another one off a cliff, a scene that is very much reminiscent of the infamous one in the move 300. Beyond that, the only other thing the teaser reveals is that Ubisoft is planning a formal announcement at the upcoming E3 2018 expo that is scheduled to take place from June 12-14 in Los Angeles. The title frame lists the game's name, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, followed by "See you at... Read more...
E3 2018 will be here before you know it and ahead of the big show, some details are surfacing that give an idea of what Ubisoft will be bringing to the massive gaming industry party. Ubisoft's E3 event will have three AAA titles to talk about. In addition it's being reported that all three of these titles will land by the end of Ubi's current fiscal year. That means by March 31, 2019, barring any delays, which are common in the gaming industry realm, unfortunately. We know what two of those game titles will be -- The Crew 2 and The Division 2 have been officially confirmed. The third game is unannounced. However, at least some details on that unannounced game will land at E3. Ubisoft says... Read more...
Ubisoft is letting gamers play For Honor free starting today and running through Sunday or Monday, depending on your platform, during which time you can also purchase the title for a deep discount. The sale actually runs longer than the free weekend, so you have some time to decide if you want to keep playing, or move onto something else. If it's the former, all of your progress will be transferred over, so there is no worry of having to start over. The free weekend for gameplay applies to all available platforms, including the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 game consoles, and Windows PCs. Here are the dates and times for each one: Xbox One: Starts on May 3, 2018 at 1am PDT, and will end on May 7,... Read more...
Some games push the envelope with cutting edge graphics, while others seek to immerse players with an engaging story line full of plot twists and turns. Yet others introduce innovative control schemes and gameplay mechanics. And then there is Far Cry 5, a game that mixes redneck stereotypes with the already weird world of politics for what some will consider a delightfully bizzarre change of pace in standard first person shooter fare. By that we mean you will have the opportunity, among other things, to collect the private parts from bulls for the local Testical Festival, an annual tradition in the fictitious town of Falls End. Shall we go on? Probably not, but we will anyway. Far Cry 5 is the... Read more...
Ubisoft is giving up some details on Far Cry 5 season pass DLC, and it sounds like it will be very different from what the core game delivers. The core game has players in Hope County, Montana combating The Project at Eden's Gate, as the cult prepares for the end of the world. We caught our first glimpse of the core game last May, however, players have some other cool expanded content to look forward to involving the living dead zombie hordes, a mission to Mars and a retrotastic return to Vietnam. The season pass content will take players through three very different destinations including Vietnam with a campaign called Hours of Darkness as the first DLC. The second season... Read more...
Ubisoft is getting ready to release Far Cry 5 in just a couple of months, and as that day draws the near, the developers decided to share some additional information about the PC version, including what minimum specs you will need to run the game and what is recommended to maintain 60 frames per second. Also of interest is what kind of meaty hardware you will need in order to render the game at 4K, whether it's 60 fps or 30 fps. Before we get to the minimum and recommended specs, let's talk a little about the game and the focus on PC. Ubisoft is not treating PC players as second-class citizens to their console brethren. To help players get the best experience possible on PC, there is a built-in... Read more...
Gaming has grown to become one of the biggest entertainment industries, surpassing both movies and music in revenue. At the same time, the business model behind gaming has changed. Microtransactions are now a normal part of the gaming experience, and if you were hoping that would change, you will be in for a disappointment. There is too much money at stake, as evidenced by Ubisoft raking in more real-world loot from microstransactions than from the actual games. Ubisoft reported strong-than-expected sales for its fiscal first and second quarters. For the six-month period ended September 30, 2017, Ubisoft saw a 65.7 percent jump in sales to €466.2 million (~$540.6 million), with second quarter... Read more...
The first Watch Dogs game came out around three and a half years ago, but do not let its age fool you—there is still some entertainment value to be had from Ubisoft's cleverly conceived third-person action title. If you managed to miss out on Watch Dogs all this time, don't fret, you can pick it up for free and see for yourself how it holds up. You have to be relatively fast, though, as the freebie offer is only good until November 13.To promote is Uplay service, Ubisoft is giving away the PC version of Watch Dogs to registered Uplay users starting today and running through Monday. All you have to do is hit the source link below and either log into an existing Ubisoft account, or create one.... Read more...
After a few teasers and well-sourced leaks regarding Far Cry 5, this morning we’re being introduced to the first official [full] trailer for the game. We already knew that the game would be set in Montana, and the focus group leak gave us more information about the religious undertones of the game. However, the new trailer brings all of those pieces together into a backwoods, pickup truck drivin’, twangy music playin', hound dog howlin’, shotgun-filled glimpse into small town America.  Ubisoft describes the game, writing:Welcome to Hope County, Montana. When your arrival incites the cult to violently seize control of the region, you must rise up and spark the fires of resistance to... Read more...
We have the feeling that Far Cry 5 is going to be quite the controversial game when it’s released later this year. We got our first taste of murder, religious undertones and maniacal screams earlier this week, and now Ubisoft has revealed the first artwork for the game. Let’s just say that it’s more than a bit provocative. First and foremost, the image invokes Jesus’ “Last Supper” with his disciples, with Jesus being replaced by a religious cult leader (if the previous leak turns out to be right). This character, which has been likened to a facsimile of Tom Cruise’s ardent attachment to Scientology, is surrounded by a number of bearded men, a single female and a lone wolf. Besides the...   Far Cry 5 is coming, and the hype train rolls out today with the reveal of the very first teaser trailer for the game. If the Himalayan atmosphere of Far Cry 4 was a bit too “out there” for you, maybe you will be more at home with the setting of Far Cry 5: present-day Montana. Montana might seem like a rather strange place for a modern, first-person shooter, but you can’t argue with the picturesque landscapes presented in the trailer below. We don’t have much to go on from the actual trailer other than the blood curdling scream of a man at the start, a shot of a person running through a field of high grass and the troubling sight of a man ringing a bell with the head of another (unconscious... Gamers have grown frustrated with Ubisoft over currency issues and matchmaking problems in For Honor, the hack-and-slash fighting game that released to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles and Windows PCs last month. In an attempt to get the company's attention, a Reddit forum user has organized a mass boycott where For Honor players will refrain from playing the title for 24 hours. "The goal is to receive a response from Ubisoft, something that tells us to maintain our faith in the game. Below is a list of reasonable requests and suggestions made by the community that I have noticed. I hope together we can make a difference in the game we love," Reddit user jbaayoun stated in his online manifesto.... Read more...
Balancing a checkbook can be a real buzz kill if you often find yourself with too much month at the end of your paycheck. Do you know what else stinks? Auditing the expense of in-game purchases, whether paid for with the time you spend grinding away to avoid doling out real dollars, or the actual hit to your wallet for various microtransactions. This is especially true in For Honor, in which casual players would have to clear their calendars for the next two and a half years in order to unlock all of the game's items. Or you can spend an exorbitant amount to unlock everything. Here's the thing—in For Honor, you can avoid microtransactions completely by earning steel in the game, which in turn... Read more...
Ghost Recon: Wildands takes gamers back to squad-based tactical shooter country, albeit this time we’re dropping in hot, to cartel-controlled Bolivia. Our mission is to gather intel to systematically take down each cartel leader until the head of the snake is dispatched. The operation is playable solo or with three others in 4-player co-op. Ubisoft has also made this one available for would-be operatives on all Platforms (PC, Xbox One and PS4). Ditching the futuristic theme of the previous Ghost Recon installment, Wildlands is firmly set in the present and brings a new, completely open-world setting to the franchise, in what Ubisoft is calling "one of the biggest games it has ever published."... With a game entitled For Honor, you would think that gamers would in fact show some dignity and honor when it comes to playing. However, that might be a little too much to ask, as Ubisoft earlier this month said that it would begin cracking down on what it calls AFK Farming. In case you didn’t know, AFK stands for “Away From Keyboard” and in For Honor, AFK Farming refers to gamers who use sneaky methods to earn in-game loot. Gamers have been known to tie rubber bands around their control stick to allow the in-game character to continue moving while they go off to do other things. This “autonomous” activity allows gamers to rack up rewards and experience points without even actually “playing”... Read more...
Did you read all of the favorable reviews for Watch Dogs 2 and still fail to hit the “Purchase” button to add the game to your digital library? Apparently, you weren’t alone, as sales for Watch Dogs 2 haven't exactly lived up to expectations. Sales of the game even failed to surpass that of its predecessor (it underperformed by a large margin), which surely had to ruffle a few feathers inside Ubisoft’s offices. "It is true that first-day and first-week sales for a number of big games, including Watch Dogs 2 and titles from our competitors, are comparatively lower than previous versions in previous years,” said Ubisoft in a statement in November 2016 shortly after the game’s launch. “There is... If you're a fan of game worlds that almost feel overwhelmingly expansive, then it looks like Ghost Recon Wildlands is a game that should be on your radar. Ubisoft doesn't just claim that Wildland's world is large; it boasts it as being the largest game world its ever created, period. Throughout their Wildlands adventure, players will battle 26 different bosses, which gives us the impression that the game is not going to be a breeze to finish. Perhaps even more impressive, the map includes 21 regions, each of which feature their own civilian population. Beyond that, there are 11 different ecosystems to add even more complexity. Wildlands sounds like a game that you're going to be able to sink... Read more...
Forget the rumors, it is now official—Ubisoft has posted a website where fans of the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series can register for the Ghost Recon: Wildlands beta, an open-world first person shooter set in Bolivia sometime in the near future ("a few years from now"). The game will be playable as a single-player experience or with up to three others in a four-player co-op. In Wildlands, it's the players job to coordinate the infiltration and take down of the brutal Santa Blanca cartel, a network of bad guys (and girls) that rely fear, intimidation, and violence to rule the land. The game begins with creating and customizing a character. Customizable traits will include gender, facial features,... Read more...
Virtual reality (VR) is starting to slowly take off on PC and console gaming platforms, but that also means that there is plenty of fragmentation going on as each platform looks to stake its claim on early adopters. This was especially the case during the early days of the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, when attempts to “unify” the gaming experience on the VR headsets by the hacking community were initially thwarted. However, as least one game publisher, Ubisoft, is looking to allow all gamers using the three major VR platforms to engage in online multiplayer sessions together. That means that PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift users will no longer be relegated to playing in their own minuscule... Read more...
