PETA recently cried fowl play against Ubisoft’s depiction of a Mortal Kombat style cockfighting mini game within its newest game Far Cry 6. It seemed to ruffle the feathers of PETA Latino, which requested that the developer/publisher remove the mini game. But wait till it sees this. PETA’s pleas did not seem to resonate within the gaming community, however. The consensus among most players seemed to be that it was just a game and that no live animals were being harmed. Some pointed out that there was a large amount of content that was far more violent and graphic than the cockfighting. Cockfighting is still legal in Cuba, by the way, where the game's setting takes place. While the... Read more...
Ubisoft's Far Cry 6 has only been released a couple of days and PETA has already taken offense to one aspect of the game: cockfighting. PETA Latino has released a statement requesting that developer/publisher remove the mini game that allows players to participate in a cockfighting game.. Far Cry 6 has had mostly favorable reviews since launch. However, the mini game which allows players to use roosters to face off against one another in a Mortal Kombat type style has met with mixed impressions even within its own community. Some players find the min game fun and lighthearted, while others find it to be tone deaf to today’s animal rights-centric climate. Alicia Aquayo from PETA’s... Read more...
The raid on this fort is reminiscent of infiltration missions in Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag A whole new crop of blockbuster games are lining up for a big holiday shopping season. Ubisoft didn't really intend for that to be the case for Far Cry 6, but early this year the COVID-19 pandemic had other plans. The game had been hit by some delays, but at the end of May the company set a date: October 7, 2021. Finally, the latest Far Cry title has arrived and the open-world first-person shooter is ready for players to take down its repressive government and maybe learn a little something along the way.  Far Cry 6 Is A Political Statement What responsibility do games, or game developers,... As time goes on, the Assassin’s Creed paradigm shifts with every decision the Ubisoft team makes, such as those with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Now the team is beginning to look to the future and has realized that “the decisions [they]’re making for the franchise now will impact its future for years to come.” As a part of this, it has been announced that Ubisoft Montreal and Quebec will be working together on the upcoming project codenamed Assassin’s Creed Infinity. Announced today, Ubisoft reports the “new cross-studio, collaborative structure will be led by Marc-Alexis Côté, who will serve as executive producer of the Assassin’s Creed... Read more...
The next installment in the Far Cry series is just over the horizon, launching on October 7th this year. Starring Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian powerhouse actor Giancarlo Esposito as the main antagonist, Far Cry 6 should be quite the game, especially if recently published videos and images are anything to go by. Yesterday, Ubisoft producer and host Youssef Maguid posted the “Rules For Being A Guerilla,” giving us a glimpse into the upcoming Far Cry 6. In Far Cry 6, players will take the role of Dani Rojas, a “native Yaran and military dropout desperately trying to flee their home country.” However, Yara’s oppressive dictator, Antón Castillo (played... Watch Dogs: Legion is a recently released Ubisoft game set in London that is all about hacking. In an ironic turn of events, it appears that the source code for Watch Dogs: Legion was unfortunately leaked to the internet. Originally, only snippets of the hacked data were released, but it appears that the whole Watch Dogs: Legion game and source code was released to the internet. In October, ZDNet reported that both Ubisoft and Crytek, maker of Cryengine, were hacked by a ransomware gang named Egregor. At that time, only a small part of data in a cybercrime “proof-of-life” sort of situation was posted. It was unknown how much additional date was available at the time, however, and... Read more...
The war of the Watch Dogs series has always been fought in two parts -- physically with weapons and by proxy in the online space. In the original, which took place in Chicago, hacker Aiden Pearce, aided by the DedSec crew, hacks just about any device in his vicinity on his quest to make up for the loss of his niece, Lena, and take down a mysterious software called Central Operating System (ctOS) that ran the city and spied on its citizens. Then in Watch Dogs 2, players entered the shoes of Marcus Holloway, a DedSec activist whose goal it was to overcome ctOS version 2.0 in San Francisco while simultaneously exploiting its weaknesses for their own gain. This time around in Watch Dogs: Legion,... Read more...

Conveniently, this new subscription from Ubisoft is launching the same day as the Xbox and EA Play subscription,... Read more...

Real-time ray tracing in games is not going away, nor do we want it to—compared to traditional rasterized rendering, sprinkling in ray-traced visuals can make scenes pop with realistic reflections and other effects. The cost, of course, is a performance penalty. How much of one depends on the game. As it pertains to Ubisoft's upcoming Watch Dogs: Legion game, enabling ray-traced visuals on PC could require some meaty hardware. Due out later this year, Watch Dog: Legion will land on current-generation consoles, the next-gen PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, Google's cloud-based Stadia platform, and of course Windows PCs. It is the third installment in the Watch Dog series. Set in London,... Read more...
As much as I would like to own one, I do not see myself purchasing a flame thrower, now or ever. I imagine it's quite expensive, but aside from that, what if it unlocked an inner pyromaniac I had no idea was itching to get out? Yeah, it's best I don't go down that road. But a replica frame thrower? I'd totally be down for that. If you would be too, you can have one, when preordering the Far Cry 6 Collector's Edition bundle. There are some caveats. Let's start with the obvious—it doesn't actually spit fire (God, I hope not, anyway). The replica flame thrower is decorative piece only. Some assembly is also required. It's also expensive at $199.99, and exclusive to ordering the physical copy... Read more...
One of the biggest things that happened this weekend was the Ubisoft Forward event, where the company talked about some of its future video games. One of the games that the company spoke about at the show was its new free-to-play battle royale shooter Hyper Scape. It was announced that the game is now in open beta for PC gamers during the event. In addition, gamers who have an NVIDIA GeForce NOW subscription can get in on the Hyper Scape open beta. As with all GeForce NOW games, Hyper Scape requires no downloads before allowing players to jump into the action in Neo Arcadia. There's been quite a bit of buzz surrounding the game since it was announced in late June. Free-to-play battle royale style... Read more...
If you missed your chance to score a free copy of Watch Dogs 2 over the weekend, we have good news—you can still snag it at no cost. That's because Ubisoft is extending its offer due to login issues some people were having during its Ubisoft Forward livestream event yesterday, attendance of which was required to claim a copy of Watch Dogs 2 at not cost. As originally conceived, Ubisoft required that people tune into the livestream's pre-show to claim the game on PC. Timing was key, as viewers also had to log into their Uplay account once the team finished playing Trackmania, but before the conclusion of the pre-show, in order to claim a copy of Watch Dogs 2 for free. All good, except that... Read more...

Far Cry 5 landed for PC gamers back in early 2018, and it looks as though its successor, Far Cry 6, is right around the corner. A listing for the game appeared briefly in Hong Kong's version of the Sony PlayStation Store and not only gave us a peek into the plot of the game, but also at one of the main antagonists and box art. One of the biggest reveals is confirmation of early rumors that Giancarlo Esposito will play the primary villain in Far Cry 6. Esposito is known to most people for playing Gus Fring in the absolute masterpiece of a television show known as Breaking Bad. Esposito pulled off the terrifying but cool-under-pressure villain as the "Chicken Man"/meth drug lord, so we have no... Read more...
With the coronavirus pandemic still significantly impacting the United States and other countries around the world, all major in-person conferences have been canceled. That means conventions such as E3 aren't happening this year, leaving publishers and devs looking for alternative ways to get the word out about their upcoming video games. Many of them are turning to their own digital events to talk about future titles. Ubisoft has confirmed its first-ever digital conference for this coming Sunday. Ubisoft has officially confirmed its first all-digital conference will happen on July 12. The main show will start at 12 PM PDT/11 PM CST on that date. Ubisoft says that the stream will begin at 11... Read more...
Over the weekend, around 30 minutes of gameplay footage from Assassin's Creed Valhalla leaked online, and as you might imagine, developer/publisher Ubisoft is not the least bit pleased with the situation. Just the opposite, Ubisoft is trying to get the unauthorized footage removed from the web, and has been successful so far. The footage found its way to YouTube, where it was eventually taken down. Then a short while later, a user on Reddit posted the 30 minutes of leaked content in three chunks on Streamable, and all three of those videos have been removed "due to a copyright claim by the content owner" as well. That content owner would be Ubisoft. It is entirely possible that the video(s) will... Read more...
