It is almost time for another Ubisoft Forward event, which is a livestream that will entail "the latest updates about your favorite Ubisoft games and news on what's to come." With regard to the latter, will we see a Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake announcement? Possibly, but you will have to tune in to find out. There are multiple destinations where you can catch the livestream, including right here at HotHardware, embedded below (via YouTube)... Or you can head directly to the YouTube feed, if you would prefer to leave us (we'll be sad, but promise not to stalk you). Alternatively, you can tune into Ubisoft's Twitch channel and catch the event there as well—dealer's choice.... Read more...
Four years after release, Ubisoft is offering up Tom Clancy’s The Division for free. From September 1st to the 8th, anyone can pick up a copy of the PC game to keep forever. Back in 2016, Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft teamed up to release this tactical combat shooter with RPG elements. The Division throws players into a devastated New York where they must fight to survive and clean up the city following a man-made viral outbreak. According to Ubisoft’s Steam page for the game: During Black Friday, a devastating pandemic sweeps through New York City, and one by one, basic services fail. In only a few days, without food or water, society collapses into chaos. The Division, an autonomous... Read more...

Real-time ray tracing in games is not going away, nor do we want it to—compared to traditional rasterized rendering, sprinkling in ray-traced visuals can make scenes pop with realistic reflections and other effects. The cost, of course, is a performance penalty. How much of one depends on the game. As it pertains to Ubisoft's upcoming Watch Dogs: Legion game, enabling ray-traced visuals on PC could require some meaty hardware. Due out later this year, Watch Dog: Legion will land on current-generation consoles, the next-gen PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, Google's cloud-based Stadia platform, and of course Windows PCs. It is the third installment in the Watch Dog series. Set in London,... Read more...
As much as I would like to own one, I do not see myself purchasing a flame thrower, now or ever. I imagine it's quite expensive, but aside from that, what if it unlocked an inner pyromaniac I had no idea was itching to get out? Yeah, it's best I don't go down that road. But a replica frame thrower? I'd totally be down for that. If you would be too, you can have one, when preordering the Far Cry 6 Collector's Edition bundle. There are some caveats. Let's start with the obvious—it doesn't actually spit fire (God, I hope not, anyway). The replica flame thrower is decorative piece only. Some assembly is also required. It's also expensive at $199.99, and exclusive to ordering the physical copy... Read more...
One of the biggest things that happened this weekend was the Ubisoft Forward event, where the company talked about some of its future video games. One of the games that the company spoke about at the show was its new free-to-play battle royale shooter Hyper Scape. It was announced that the game is now in open beta for PC gamers during the event. In addition, gamers who have an NVIDIA GeForce NOW subscription can get in on the Hyper Scape open beta. As with all GeForce NOW games, Hyper Scape requires no downloads before allowing players to jump into the action in Neo Arcadia. There's been quite a bit of buzz surrounding the game since it was announced in late June. Free-to-play battle royale style... Read more...
If you missed your chance to score a free copy of Watch Dogs 2 over the weekend, we have good news—you can still snag it at no cost. That's because Ubisoft is extending its offer due to login issues some people were having during its Ubisoft Forward livestream event yesterday, attendance of which was required to claim a copy of Watch Dogs 2 at not cost. As originally conceived, Ubisoft required that people tune into the livestream's pre-show to claim the game on PC. Timing was key, as viewers also had to log into their Uplay account once the team finished playing Trackmania, but before the conclusion of the pre-show, in order to claim a copy of Watch Dogs 2 for free. All good, except that... Read more...

Far Cry 5 landed for PC gamers back in early 2018, and it looks as though its successor, Far Cry 6, is right around the corner. A listing for the game appeared briefly in Hong Kong's version of the Sony PlayStation Store and not only gave us a peek into the plot of the game, but also at one of the main antagonists and box art. One of the biggest reveals is confirmation of early rumors that Giancarlo Esposito will play the primary villain in Far Cry 6. Esposito is known to most people for playing Gus Fring in the absolute masterpiece of a television show known as Breaking Bad. Esposito pulled off the terrifying but cool-under-pressure villain as the "Chicken Man"/meth drug lord, so we have no... Read more...
With the coronavirus pandemic still significantly impacting the United States and other countries around the world, all major in-person conferences have been canceled. That means conventions such as E3 aren't happening this year, leaving publishers and devs looking for alternative ways to get the word out about their upcoming video games. Many of them are turning to their own digital events to talk about future titles. Ubisoft has confirmed its first-ever digital conference for this coming Sunday. Ubisoft has officially confirmed its first all-digital conference will happen on July 12. The main show will start at 12 PM PDT/11 PM CST on that date. Ubisoft says that the stream will begin at 11... Read more...
Over the weekend, around 30 minutes of gameplay footage from Assassin's Creed Valhalla leaked online, and as you might imagine, developer/publisher Ubisoft is not the least bit pleased with the situation. Just the opposite, Ubisoft is trying to get the unauthorized footage removed from the web, and has been successful so far. The footage found its way to YouTube, where it was eventually taken down. Then a short while later, a user on Reddit posted the 30 minutes of leaked content in three chunks on Streamable, and all three of those videos have been removed "due to a copyright claim by the content owner" as well. That content owner would be Ubisoft. It is entirely possible that the video(s) will... Read more...
Leaked details surrounding Ubisoft's upcoming battle royale game Hyper Scape dropped earlier week out of nowhere, and excitement surrounding the game has been incredibly high. In fact, Ubisoft's commitment to engaging with the streaming community has led the game to sail to the top of the Twitch charts without an official release at this point. You'll be able to play Hyper Scape in teams of three -- at least initially -- and there will be up to 33 teams per match. As has become standard fare with battle royale games, you'll "drop in" to the map (which is called Neo-Arcadia) at the start of each match, where you'll be tasked with finding weapons and gear to vanquish your opponents in... The battle royale genre is hot right now with games like Fortnite, PUBG, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone ruling the roost. But there's a new entry into the segment that is about to be revealed by Ubisoft, and it's reportedly called Hyper Scape. Hyper Scape will be a free-to-play, first-person shooter (FPS) style game developed by Ubisoft Montreal. For those keeping score, this is the same studio that developed the Rainbow Six games along with the Assassin's Creed series. The game is reportedly set well into the future, and will offer fast-paced gameplay. Ubisoft is aiming for a heavy streamer influence to take the game viral, and is reportedly fostering a deep relationship with Twitch... Read more...
Not everything lives up to the hype. The NFL off season in New England, in which Patriots fans (like myself) anticipated Brady's return along with the aggressive pursuit of high level receivers (I'm still reeling in self pity). Or the chicken sandwich at Popeye's (sorry, no sorry for that hot take). You can add to the list Microsoft's Xbox Series X livestream, in which Microsoft was "so pumped" to show people "a first look at Xbox Series X gameplay." Like the chicken sandwich that failed to impress me (in relation to the hype), quantity is not a substitute for quality. I understand we all have our different tastes, fair enough. But no matter where you stand on that one, you would probably agree... Read more...

Video game publisher Ubisoft has filed a lawsuit in a California courtroom against an alleged distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack website. The lawsuit lists multiple people from around the globe as defendants. Ubisoft announced last year that it had a plan to stop players that utilized DDoS attacks during games. These attacks create lag in multiplayer matches and can cause server crashes. The game publisher claimed that it had seen a 93 percent drop in the frequency of attacks after sharing its plan to combat them. Ubisoft is now aiming to kill the source of the attacks by filing a lawsuit against the website called SNG.one. The website allegedly sells subscriptions for up to $299.85... Read more...
Christmas is almost here, and game publishers and developers have been gifting gamers with some free loot in their favorite games. The latest game to give gamers free loot is Rainbow Six Siege. Players of this game will get one free operator from Year 1, 2, 3, or 4 of the seasonal updates. The coolest part of it is that the operator will be one you don't already own from those seasons. The latest operators, the Indian and Kenyan ones, are included in the free offer. The operator is random, so players can't choose who they get. Taking advantage of the free operator requires players to go to the Alpha Packs section of the game. Players on all platforms will find a special Holiday 2019 Pack waiting... Read more...
Ubisoft has not had the year it hoped for, and gamers are about to suffer dearly for it. Today Ubisoft issued updates for its financial targets and game release schedule for fiscal 2019-2020. As a result of it dreadful financial performance, Ubisoft is delaying some highly anticipated games. Gods & Monsters, Rainbow Six Quarantine, and Watch Dogs Legion will all be delayed until the 2020 to 2021 timeframe. Ubisoft says that it wants to "ensure that their respective innovations are perfectly implemented so as to deliver optimal experiences for players." Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon Wildlands has been around for quite some time, having launched over two years ago (March 7th, 2017 to be exact). With that being said, the game’s developers are aiming to give the game a big going away party before its successor – Ghost Recon Breakpoint – arrives on the scene. An all-new multiplayer mode is arriving, and it’s called Mercenaries. It’s a frantic PvPvE free-for-all that kinda takes on the guise of today’s popular battle royale shooters. The gameplay mechanics have us screaming out, “Run, get to the choppa!” to quote Arnold Schwarzenegger from the classic 1987 action flick Predator. You will have to fend... Read more...
E3 2019 is expected to have several exciting announcements for gamers. Ubisoft is one of the many game publishers that will be at E3, and one of its big announcements appears to have already leaked. Amazon UK posted a product page for an unannounced game called Watch Dogs Legion, which would be the third game in the popular series.  The game is set in London and in a post-Brexit world. The alleged description of the game read, "Watch Dogs Legion is set in a near-future, dystopian version of London. It's a post-Brexit world in which society, politics, and technology have changed and altered London's fortunes." This leak isn't the first time that London has been tipped as the setting... A new trailer for Tom Clancy's The Division 2 depicts Washington D.C. in a state of ruin as the United States descends into anarchy. It's a post-apocalyptic setting seemingly caused by some sort of virus outbreak that "crippled our country." A civil war has erupted in its wake, and it is up to agents of The Division to restore order. The trailer doesn't reveal a ton of details about the game, only that everything has gone to manure. America is "slipping into civil war" and headed to "total collapse." So yeah, the stakes are obviously high in this one. "Only you and your squad can bring the nation back from the brink," the trailer's description reads. It's sort of like watching a Walking Dead... Read more...
