During this devastating COVID-19 pandemic, Nintendo Switch game consoles have been incredibly difficult to find, and prices in the reseller market have climbed as a result. That could change soon with Nintendo suppliers announcing that the Japanese gaming giant intends to increase the output of Switch game consoles in response to the increased demand from consumers stuck at home. Nintendo intends to produce about 10 percent more Switch consoles this year compared to the 20 million units it produced last year. Word of the increase in production comes from parts suppliers that are aware of Nintendo's plans. Reports indicate that Nintendo has asked multiple suppliers and contract assemblers to prepare... It looks as a large number of Nintendo Switch users are under attack. And no, we're talking about verbal barbs from gamers asserting PC dominance, but from hackers trying to infiltrate Nintendo accounts.  The primary target for the hackers appears to be saved credit card details attached to these accounts, which they then use to make actual game purchases or in-game purchases. Compromised accounts have had payment details stolen with both saved credit cards and linked PayPal accounts. The hackers have been particularly interested in using the ill-gotten funds to purchase VBucks in-game currency for the ever-popular battle royale game Fortnite. The problem has been growing in the... Read more...
Museums around the world are currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this does not mean that you are entirely cut off from world-class art. The Getty Museum recently created a tool that allows you to add art from their open-access collection to your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The J. Paul Getty Museum’s collection includes over 70,000 pieces of artwork that range from pottery from ancient Greece to paintings by Rembrandt and Van Gogh. Animal Crossing players can now access this amazing collection through the Getty’s Animal Crossing Art Generator. The art can then be added to the player’s shirt, wallpaper, or island flag. Players can even use the... Read more...
With the coronavirus lockdown in full effect all around the country, some items are very hard to find. Scare items include household cleaners, toilet paper, and apparently the Nintendo Switch. When one Switch fan was unable to find a console in stock that wasn't at a massively marked up price, rather than do without a console, he decided to build one from spare parts. We will admit right up front there are some mysteries about this build. Namely, it's not clear how the builder identified every single part number needed to build a complete and working Nintendo Switch. The builder listed all of the parts that were purchased for the project, along with their prices. However, there are no part numbers... Read more...
The dating scene is a tricky place during the best of times. However, the recent COVID-19 pandemic has thrown a wrench into many typical dating plans. Many lovebirds are foregoing the usual restaurants and movie theaters and are going on “dates” in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Animal Crossing: New Horizons allows players to visit their friends’ islands or invite friends to their private island. Players can search for friends in the game and use a “Dodo Code” to then connect with that friend. Players can also visit friends that have their “gate” open on their island. You can even spend 200 bells to send a card to a friend or send either items in the... Read more...
Nintendo says that it is continually improving the functionality of its game consoles and services to make them more enjoyable for the end-user. As part of those efforts, Nintendo has announced that a new software update for the Switch game console is available to download now, which takes the system software to version 10.0.0. Nintendo says in most situations, the Switch will automatically download the most recent system update while it's connected to the internet. Users can also verify their current system version and start the update manually from the System Settings menu. Nintendo says that users who are unable to perform the system update should restart the console and try again. Multiple... Read more...

The Nintendo Switch is a gaming system that is designed to be taken with you on-the-go, which means that it is likely to be used in areas that aren't exactly clean (which is even more of a concern now more than ever, due to the coronavirus pandemic). The catch is that while it's easy enough to wash your hands with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, it's not often as easy to sanitize your electronics. With this in mind, some people have been using alcohol-based cleaners on the Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo of Japan is now advising against such practices. Nintendo says that cleaning the Switch with alcohol may cause the plastic parts to fade in color or deform. And for anyone... Read more...

Nintendo has another hit on its hands with Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Switch. The game is proving a fun distraction from real world events, notably the Coronavirus pandemic, though it has been unofficially banned from China's e-commerce platforms after a Hong Kong activist used the game as a means of protest. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a real-time simulation in which the player assumes the role of a character who relocates to a deserted island after purchasing a deserted island package from Tom Nook. The player can decorate their island and invite others to visit. It's a simple premise, and one that has been resonating with gamers. So, what's the problem in China? Hong Kong activist... Easter is just a week away and Nintendo has already released an Easter-inspired event in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The “Bunny Day” event unsurprisingly features eggs that can be used to craft items. However, like many items in the game, the eggs are not always easy to find. Here is how to hunt down and find the various Bunny Day eggs and what you can craft with them in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Players will first need to make sure that they have downloaded Version 1.1.1 of the game. Players will also want to check that their profile is linked to their Nintendo Account and that they start the game while connected to the Internet. Nintendo notes that “You’ll know... Read more...
Many people would probably not be too thrilled to happen upon a tarantula in real life, but tarantulas can lead to major profit in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Unfortunately, tarantulas can be a bit difficult to catch and can cause the player to pass out. With this in mind, here are some go the best ways to farm tarantulas in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Tarantulas are a rare bug that can be found between November and April in the game. They are active between 7pm and 4pm, but are the most active after 11pm. Tarantulas are particularly tricky to catch because their bite causes the player to faint. However, many consider tarantulas to be well worth the time and risk because they are worth... Read more...
Gamers of all ages know who Mario is (and his often-overlooked brother, Luigi) and are familiar with his travails over the past three decades. Mario is one of the most recognizable characters in gaming history, and Nintendo is rumored to be planning something big to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game that landed on the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). According to sources backed up by both Eurogamer and VGC, Nintendo is planning to release remastered version of classic Mario titles that will be playable only on the Nintendo Switch. While there's no indication that the original Super Mario Bros. will be included in this remaster... Read more...
With the COVID-19 pandemic causing problems across the globe, there's been a rush on daily household staples like toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer, and all manners of food items. It has also even led to an increase in sales for certain electronic items, given that people are working from home and kids are out of school. One item in particular that is hard to come by due to production shortages is the "standard" Nintendo Switch. While the newer and less expensive Nintendo Switch Lite seems to still be readily available, its more expensive sibling is out of stock at nearly every major retailer. A quick check at poplar online shopping destinations like Amazon, Best Buy,... Read more...
Given that much of the world is on lockdown (in one way or another) due to the coronavirus, the sheer number of people working (and learning) from home is putting a strain on ISPs and online services. One such service that is apparently straining under the pressure is Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo Switch Online is used by many Switch games -- including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe -- for multiplayer functionality. Those same servers also underpin the Nintendo eShop, which allows you to purchase games digitally. As of this writing at 9:46am EST, Nintendo online services are still down, as witnessed by the screenshot and error message presented below when trying to access the Nintendo eShop. (Click... It doesn't matter where geeks and gamers come from; we all tend to have some of the same likes. Many gamers have a soft spot in their heart for Super Mario as gamers of a certain age probably cut their console gaming teeth in the 80s trying to defeat Super Mario Bros. enemies on the original Nintendo. Geeks and gamers also tend to have a fondness for LEGO, often starting from childhood and sticking with them into adulthood. Fans of Nintendo and LEGO should be excited to hear that the two companies have teamed up and will be producing Super Mario LEGO building kits that will launch later this year. The creation the two companies have come up with is described as neither a video game nor a traditional... Read more...
Today's date is Mar 10, otherwise known as Mario Day (Mar10...get it?), and in celebration of this once-a-year event, there are some delightful discounts to be had on several Nintendo Switch games. Most of them feature the world's most famous plumber, though some of the game discounts also focus on his companions, such as Yoshi and Captain Toad. Price cuts from Nintendo are far more sporadic than from other publishers, so it is always nice when something like this happens. Some of them can be bought and downloaded from Nintendo's Switch eShop, others are available at places like Amazon and Best Buy. Sitting high on the list is Super Mario Maker 2. The popular sequel to the first Super Mario Maker... Read more...
Remember how difficult it was to get your hands on a Switch console when Nintendo initially released the system three years ago? The rabid demand prompted Nintendo to issue a statement saying the shortage was "definitely not intentional." That's all in the rear view mirror now, though the Coronavirus outbreak could result in another shortage of the popular console. If so, the timing would be particularly unfortunate, considering how well it is still selling—cumulative sales of the Switch recently surpassed that of the legendary Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), with 52.48 million units sold to date, including 10.81 million Switch unit sales during the last quarter. The Switch... Read more...
A rare Nintendo PlayStation prototype is up for sale, and the bids are flying in at a furious pace. Wait, a Nintendo PlayStation… what the heck is that? Decades ago, Nintendo tasked Sony with developing a CD-ROM add-on for the wildly popular SNES game console. The resultant frankensystem combined the hardware of the SNES with an integrated CD-ROM drive. While around 200 prototypes were built, most of them were destroyed. However, a few managed to survive the scrap heap; one of which is currently up for auction. This is the same system that Benjamin Heckendorn (aka Ben Heck) nursed back to health in 2017. The console was designed to play both standard SNES cartridge-based... Read more...
Traveling by air can be a rather boring experience for many people. Not only do you sit in a cramped airplane seat surrounded by people and screaming kids while in the air, often travelers deal with long layovers that require you to sit in equally confined areas within a terminal. For many people reading or playing mobile video games are the best ways to pass the time. Nintendo has a new Experience that it wants to share with travelers at some airports around the country this month called the Nintendo Switch On The Go pop-up airport lounge. Nintendo says that the airport lounge will launch in various locations starting on February 13 around the United States. Each of the lounges will include... Read more...
A few years ago, Nintendo took a gamble on a hybrid game console, one did not come close to matching the raw power of the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, but could be played on-the-go or plopped into a dock for big screen action. I am of course talking about the Switch, which has proven to be immensely popular. This raises the question, will there be an upgraded Switch Pro model, as has been rumored? Probably not. Nintendo president and chief executive officer Shuntaro Furukawa threw cold water on the rumor in a briefing with investors following the release of the company's latest earnings report. In no uncertain terms, Furukawa said there are "no plans" to launch another Switch console this year,... Read more...
Nintendo may have take a swing and a miss with the Wii U, which failed to recapture the magic of the Wii and ranks as the company's worst selling console of all time, but the same is not true of the Switch. It continues to sell like gangbusters—Nintendo sold an additional 10.81 million Switch systems during the last quarter, and 52.48 million since launching nearly three years ago. The Switch will need to double that figure in order to surpass the original Wii at 101.63 million lifetime sales, but the hybrid console is well on its way. Just as impressive, the Switch managed to scoot past the venerable Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in lifetime sales—Nintendo pegs SNES... Read more...
