Back in January, Ford officially pulled the wraps off the ultimate Mustang: the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500. At the time, Ford wasn't specific about the output of the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine, although it said that it would crank out in excess of 700 horsepower. Today, Ford confirmed the official figures for the engine, and they're absolutely breathtaking. Ford says that the 5.2-liter pumps out 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque. That makes it the most powerful production Mustang… EVER. The horsepower figure puts it well ahead of contemporary counterparts like the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. Both competitors, however, edge the Shelby on... Read more...
When most people think about the Ford Mustang, they imagine a rear-wheel drive beast powered by a thumping V8 engine. However, in recent years Ford has reintroduced a turbocharged four-cylinder to the lineup and it is by no means a slouch in the performance arena. Today, Ford has introduced the new 2.3L High Performance Package for the four-banger Mustang. This new package adds an additional 20 horsepower to the already stout 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, bringing its total to 330 horsepower. Torque remains unchanged at 350 lb-ft. To put that in perspective, the 2010 Mustang GT with its 4.6-liter V8 engine produced 315 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. In addition to the enhancements... Read more...
Ford has unveiled the all-new 2020 Escape SUV, and this year the line includes hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. Ford says that every model in the line has a driving range of at least 400 miles per tank of fuel, whether it's powered by a standalone EcoBoost gas engine or one of the new hybrid powertrains. The standard FWD hybrid offering is good for over 550 miles of driving per tank of fuel. Escape buyers can opt for an all-wheel-drive version or front-wheel-drive versions using the same 8-speed automatic transmission. Ford is packing the Titanium version of the Escape with an available new 2.0L EcoBoost that makes 250 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft of torque when using 93 octane fuel. A lower-spec... Read more...
For the car enthusiasts out there, this one stings... a lot! Ford has just announced its latest Focus ST, which is based on the all-new Focus that debuted in Europe last year. The hot hatch looks great, has a sweet, turbocharged inline-4 engine and is available with a 6-speed manual or seven-speed automatic. And unfortunately, it won't be arriving in the United States. Although the United States received previous generations of the Focus along with the Focus ST and monstrous Focus RS, we won't be receiving the fourth-generation model or its special variants. You can blame America's obsession with crossovers for death of the Focus here (and all Ford cars in general, save for the... Read more...
Ford Mustangs are known for offering a lot of performance for a semi-reasonable price. However, the newest member of the Mustang family is about to offer a whole lot of performance at a price that will likely start at around $75,000 or more. Witness the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500, which promises supercar-slaying performance along with enough high-tech gadgets to make even 007 envious. At the heart of the vehicle is a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that pumps out in excess of 700 horsepower. Rumors suggest that the engine could out around 750 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque. Just listen to that damn thing in the tweet below: You’ve waited long enough. Say hello to your #GT500. 🐍 #FordMustang... Read more...
The world is being overrun by crossover utility vehicles (CUVs), and there's not much that we can do about it. Sales of traditional sedans have plummeted as Americans quickly embrace larger, more versatile, and more expensive crossovers. Lincoln is definitely embracing this trend, and has pulled the wraps off the impeccably-detailed 2020 Aviator. The new mid-size Aviator is a dead ringer for the concept that was first revealed at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show in January and has lost absolutely nothing in the transition to production. Up front is a not-so-large version of Lincoln's new grille design along with LED headlights and fog lights. There is tasteful chrome trim around the windows... Read more...
Ask a few muscle car guys what car they would go back in time and buy if they could, and a handful of them would say the classic, and incredibly valuable, Ford Boss 429 Mustang from 1969. While you can't go back in time and get a brand-new original Boss 429, you can purchase one of the Ford approved continuation 1969 Boss 429 Mustangs from Classic Recreations. The company landed the rights to build these official continuation cars from Ford earlier this year. The car has officially debuted at SEMA 2018 and it looks almost exactly like the original car from 1969, with a few modern twists. The car starts with an original 1969 Mustang body that is restored to factory new condition before being tweaked... Read more...
Electric vehicles are growing in popularity, and it certainly helps that some of the newest designs carry the same aggressive looks and performance (at times) as their gas guzzling brethren. Some EVs are even ultra-sporty. That seems to be what Ford is after with an all-electric vehicle in the making, one that takes its inspiration from the company's iconic Mustang. Ford teased the upcoming EV by releasing a sketch of the rear end, and boy is it a beauty. In fact, it would be easy to mistake the sketch, as shown above, for a Mustang. That is precisely the point—Darren Palmer, product development director of Ford's Team Edison division, stated in no uncertain terms that the all-new, fully-electric... Read more...
The gang over at Roush has been taking the already potent Mustang GT and hopping it up for more performance and style for a long time. Roush has offered Mustangs in what it calls "Stages" referring to if they are all show and no go (Stage 1) or if they pack lots of additional "go" in the form of a supercharger under the hood. Roush blowers don’t always make the most power out of all Mustang superchargers available on the market, but the big thing is when properly installed by a professional,  they often allow you to keep your warranty intact. Roush has announced that the 2019 Roush Stage 3 (RS3) Mustang is up for pre-order. The RS3 can be pre-ordered starting September 1,... Read more...
Ford just unveiled the 50th anniversary edition of its factory build drag car called the Mustang Cobra Jet. This utterly not street legal Mustang is is hailed as the hottest, fastest, and most powerful drag racing Mustang ever. The very first Cobra Jet Mustang rolled off the assembly line back in 1968 and this special 50th anniversary edition will debut at the 2018 Woodward Dream Cruise this weekend. Power for this mid-eight second, 150mph pony car comes from a special Ford 5.2L V8 based on the Ford 5.0L V8 engine used in street Mustangs. The bulk of the power from that giant engine comes thanks to a 3.0L Whipple supercharger. To handle all the power that blown V8 makes, Ford fits the drag... Read more...
Ford has announced that it has hit a milestone for the first Pony car, the Mustang. The 10 millionth Ford Mustang rolled off the assembly line this week at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan. The Mustang is hailed as the best-selling sports car in the last 50 years in America, and has been the world's best-selling sports car for three years in a row. The special 10 millionth car was as close to the very first Mustang that rolled off the assembly line as possible. That means the record-setting ride is a 2019 Wimbledon White GT V8 6-speed manual convertible. The 2019 Mustang is powered by a 460hp 5.0L V8 and Ford says that it was fitted with all the latest driver assist technology. The... Read more...
For people who work jobs that have them performing the same exact movements for hours a day each day, on-the-job repetitive stress injuries are a big concern. Ford wants to help its employees be safer and have fewer injuries, which in turn prevents worker pain and helps keep things rolling in the factory. To help its workers who reach over their heads multiple times per day, Ford has announced that it will be rolling out exoskeletons to some of those workers. The exoskeleton is called the EksoVest built by Ekso Bionics. This isn’t the sort of exoskeleton designed to make the worker stronger or allow them to lift more. EksoVest is a device that offers passive arm support for 5-15 pounds... Read more...
The guys over at Hennessey Performance have kicked off the celebration of their 10,000th vehicle being produced. That 10,000 number includes the awesome Venom GT supercar we showed you not long ago, but this new commemorative vehicle comes in the form of a very slick 2019 Hennessey Heritage Edition Mustang. The car sports a very cool livery that was inspired by the 2018 Ford GT Heritage Edition that is red and white, with some cool striping and a number badge on the doors. The heart of this car is a Ford 5.0L V8 engine that can be backed by a choice of factory Ford transmission, including the 10-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual. The engine gets a giant 3.0L supercharger... Read more...
Most people who are shopping for a Ford Mustang, an RWD sports/muscle car, aren’t likely to be cross shopping that car with a Kia. However, with the new Kia Stinger GT on the market, the Korean sedan might be something that Mustang shoppers are considering in today's market. The guys from Throttle House took a Kia Stinger GT packing the twin-turbo V6 and all-wheel drive to the drag strip and pitted it against a Mustang GT automatic that does have aftermarket tires, different springs, and factory Magneride suspension. Anyone who's ever tried to launch an RWD Mustang on an unprepared surface with over 450hp on tap knows that it's not easy to do. The Stinger GT, on the other hand, has... Read more...
