Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 family of ultraportables has always been popular, and the company is looking to widen its appeal even further with the introduction of three new models. The devices feature all-new designs, and are among the thinnest and lightest in their respective classes. ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga Starting things off is the ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga, which is a 2-in-1 convertible with a 13.5-inch 2K (2256x1504) touch display. Given that it’s part of the Yoga family, it has a 360-degree hinge, while the 2K display has a 3:2 aspect ratio and covers 100 percent of the sRGB color space. The display is also Dolby Vision rated, and has a brightness rating of 450 nits. ThinkPad X1 Titanium... Read more...
HyperX is the gaming division of Kingston Technology Company and has been creating concrete gaming accessories and peripherals since 2002. HyperX Alloy Origins 60 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Perhaps you are working on a small desk or need a keyboard for on the go. HyperX has created the Alloy Origins 60 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, which is an “ultra-compact” 60% form factor keyboard. It features HyperX red mechanical switches and has RGB LEDs to make your typing faster. If you require a smaller... Read more...
LG is a major force in the OLED TV market, and if you are a gamer who has researched your options, you undoubtedly have come across the company's offerings, the latest being its CX series. Believe it or not, however, LG has yet to release an OLED monitor for PCs. That is about to change—LG has announced its brand new UltraFine OLED Pro (32EP950) at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) today. While not aimed at gamers (unlike the 48-inch auto-bending OLED display that is coming), LG is looking to make a splash in the OLED monitor scene with a professional grade 31.5 panel sporting a 4K resolution (3840x2160) and accurate color reproduction. According to LG, its first OLED monitor boasts 99... Read more...
As games continue to grow in size, so too do the storage devices required to store copies of Call of Duty, GTA V, and others. Accordingly, Western Digital has announced a size increase for its consumer brand portable SSDs at CES 2021. These new 4TB drives will become available this quarter. but will cost consumers a pretty penny if they want one. SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD The SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD is NVMe powered storage and is one of the fastest in the bunch at 2000MB/s read and write. It features a “forged aluminum chassis” to act as a heatsink for the drive and a USB 3.1 Type C connection for blazing-fast speeds. The models which are available now come with a 5-year warranty... TCL is a company that we usually associate with value-priced Roku TVs, but the company also has recently branched out into the mobile sector with smartphones. Now, the company is flexing its engineering prowess with a rather intriguing concept for a tablet than can be used on-the-go. During its CES 2021 virtual keynote, TCL introduced what it bills as "the world's first 17-inch printed OLED scrolling display." When in the closed position, the device takes on the form of a scroll; something that we typically associate with historical documents from centuries ago. However, the user can then pull the device apart, extending it out until the display measures 17 inches across. From what we can... Read more...
It is widely expected that AMD will announce some new chips at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), including a line of mobile CPUs based on Zen 3. Might we also see a fresh batch of Ryzen processors with Radeon graphics, too? Time will tell. Otherwise known as an APU, a recent benchmark leak highlighted one of the APUs that will eventually see the light of day (presumably), that being the Ryzen 7 5700G. AMD does not use the term APU (accelerated processing unit) these days, but no matter term you want to run with, these chips combine CPU and GPU cores in the same package. The company's top APU offering right now is the Ryzen 7 4700G for OEMs. Based on Zen 2 (codenamed Renoir), the chip features... Read more...
This week will see lots of product announcements, as is always the case each year during the multi-day Consumer Electronics Show (CES) event. Among them is a new line of Wi-Fi 6E hardware from TP-Link. What exactly is Wi-Fi 6E, and does that mean you should toss your Wi-Fi 6 (non-E) router in the garbage? Let us explain. First off, hold onto your Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) hardware—the standard has only begun to get its feet wet, and will really make a splash when more Wi-Fi 6 adapters (like the Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650) enter the marketplace. That's because Wi-Fi 6 is designed to handle multiple devices connected at the same time much better than previous standards, but to take full advantage of... Read more...
LG has been teasing its CES 2021 announcements for the past month, but at the end of todays' keynote, it reserved a spot for an upcoming product that've talked about in the past. We're of course talking about LG's smartphone with a rollable display, which was first teased at the tail end of its LG Wing unveil. While the previous teaser only gave us a glimpse at the smartphone's silhouette from the side, we get a clear look at the device from the front. In the short clip below, the smartphone is being held in a landscape orientation and actually looks like a small tablet. However, we the see the display slowly shrink down -- under its own power -- until the display dimensions... Read more...
Although it's not a complete redesign of its popular 2-in-1 convertible, Microsoft today announced an extension of its existing Surface Pro 7, and it's called the Surface Pro 7 Plus. At first glance, you might not really notice much going on with its design on the outside, but Microsoft has made some key changes inside that make the device more appealing to education and business customers. For starters, Microsoft has performed a CPU upgrade across the board, adopting 11th generation Intel Tiger Lake processors. Base systems get the Core i3-1115G4, mid-range systems feature the Core i5-1135G7, and top-spec systems receive the Core i7-1165G7. The shift to Tiger Lake is partially responsible... Read more...
Hewlett-Packard is kicking off CES 2021 with a slew of new products that fall under its "Elite" brand, and they're all quite impressive. We've got everything from convertibles, to Windows 10 on Arm devices to even wireless earbuds, so sit back and smell what HP is cooking for this year. Elite Dragonfly G2 and Elite Dragonfly Max The Elite Dragonfly G2 is aimed at the business market, and serves as a high-end 2-in-1 Windows 10 convertible. Instead of the older Intel Whiskey Lake processors that we saw in the previous generation, the new G2 offering is rocking 11th generation Tiger Lake Core processors (U-Series Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7). That also means that beefed up 12th generation... Read more...
At long last, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is virtually here, kicking off tomorrow Monday, January 11 and running through Thursday, January 14. As usual, you can expect a whole bunch of announcements, product unveils, and probably a few prototypes that may or may not ever come to fruition. In the midst of it all, NVIDIA is planning a "Game On" event related to its GeForce RTX hardware. Whatever could it be? Given the ramp up of recent leaks and rumors, the smart money is on NVIDIA unveiling its next-round of mobile GPUs for laptops. These will be based on its Ampere architecture, the same as what underpins its GeForce RTX 30 series on the desktop. And that is pretty exciting, given the... Read more...
Augmented reality (AR) has had ups and downs over the years, from the original Google Glass in 2013 to Microsoft’s HoloLens in 2016 and the Enterprise Google Glass in 2019. Ultimately, the technology could prove to be incredibly useful, but it is a bit “out there” for most people. Now, Lenovo is entering the augmented reality ring at CES 2021 with the ThinkReality A3 Smart Glasses, which are some good-looking glasses that could boost AR's future. According to Lenovo, the ThinkReality A3 glasses are part of a goal to “deliver intelligent transformation in business and bring smarter technology to more people.” They state that how we work, learn, and interact is changing,... Last year's Consumer Electronics Show was full of great new tech gear, most of which made its way into retail channels throughout the challenging year that was 2020. We saw AMD launch a two-pronged strike into the notebook and desktop CPU markets that, if not fully in the performance lead, at the very least brought the fight to Intel. There were also tons of notebooks, foldable PCs, and incredible 8K TVs. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, it was also the last time there'd be any sort of in-person tech conference anywhere in the world, as Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February was canceled, along with every other major conference scheduled to take place. This year, CES is a wholly virtual... Read more...
It has been a nice, long run for the DDR4 standard, and while it is not exactly coming to a complete end, DDR5 is poised to replace it in the not-too-distant future. On next-gen platforms, anyway. Incidentally, Adata has been collaborating with MSI and Gigabyte on its upcoming DDR5 memory modules, which will feature much faster speeds than DDR4. Next-gen DDR5 RAM is among the hardware lineup that Adata plans to showcase at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next week. It will also have on tap some PC cases, SSDs, an all-in-one liquid cooler, and another PCIe 4.0 SSD, among other things (including gaming gum, of all things). "The future of DRAM is here in the form of the Adata DDR5 DRAM module.... Read more...
We are eagerly anticipating all of the new PC hardware announcements that are around the bend, many of which will be shouted out at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next week. Will Intel introduce its 11th Gen Core processor lineup (otherwise known as Rocket Lake-S)? Time will tell, but interestingly, what appears to be official press render of Gigabyte's upcoming Z590 Aorus Xtreme motherboard has popped up online. If you have not been following the CPU scene all that closely, Intel has already confirmed some details about its next-gen CPUs. According to Intel, its Rocket Lake-S chips will deliver a double-digit gain in IPC (instructions per clock) performance, while also introducing PCI Express... Read more...
Motorola is getting a slight jump on the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) by unveiling a refreshed lineup of Moto G handsets for 2021. Rather than focus on flagship phones with ultra-premium pricing, however, Motorola is taking aim at the mid-range market, with prices starting at a rather affordable (in the realm of smartphones) $169. "Nobody knows the mid tier - or mid tier consumers - like Motorola. At a time when we’re all consuming more content on our mobile devices and using them to share our stories, connect with our loved ones, and follow our passions in life, Motorola’s priority is offering the latest high-end features at a price everyone can afford," Motorola says. What you... Read more...
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, touching public surfaces has become almost taboo. To combat this, Intel has announced for CES 2021 the RealSense Touchless Control Software, which simplifies converting kiosks and signage to a touchless interface. If you go to McDonald's, Kohl's, Amazon Lockers, or other stores, you will find touch-based kiosks for food ordering, shopping, or picking stuff up. These kiosks can be quite dirty, as in 2018, a U.K newspaper found that the McDonald's kiosks in six different restaurant locations had gut and fecal bacteria on them. Besides that, what else could be carried around and smudged onto kiosks by random people? McDonald's Kiosks Can Be Gross, Right? Now,... Read more...
Tiny handheld PCs are not exactly a foreign concept to us here at HotHardware. Just a few weeks ago, we brought you news of the GPD Win 3, which is powered by up to an 11th generation Core i7-1165G7. That handheld gaming PC has a sliding display that reveals a QWERTY keyboard beneath, but not everyone is familiar with the GPD brand. Luckily for us, Lenovo and NEC might have the next best thing in the form of the LaVie Mini, which is an extension of the Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) form factor from over a decade ago. The LaVie Mini has a tiny 8-inch display with a respectable resolution of 1920x1200 (WUXGA). Powering the machine is a modern Core i7-1180G7 Tiger Lake processor... Read more...
The LG Gram family laptops have long been among some of the thinnest and lightest on the market, and the entire family is getting redesigned for the new year. There are five models in this family: three traditional laptops, and two 2-in-1 convertibles. Each of the machines are powered by Intel's 11th generation Tiger Lake Core processors with integrated 12th generation Iris Xe graphics. The Core processors can be paired with either 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR4x memory, and there are two M.2 slots onboard to accommodate plenty of NVMe storage. In an interesting twist, all the new Gram laptops have 16:10 aspect ratio displays to give you more screen real estate for your daily workflow... Read more...
AMD released its Zen 3-based Ryzen 5000 desktop processor family in late 2020, and the company will soon be launching its Ryzen 5000 mobile processors, presumably next week at CES 2021. However, two new processors have been outed from an unlikely place: the USB-IF.  The two processors in question are the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G and the Ryzen 9 5980HX. There are unfortunately no specs associated with the product listings, although we'd assume that the Ryzen 7 5700G is a desktop-based Cezanne Zen 3 processor with integrated graphics. Based on what we know about mobile versions of Cezanne, this will likely be an 8-core/16-thread processor once released. The Ryzen 7 5700G... Read more...
Next week will bring CES 2021, but companies are incredibly eager to show off their gadgets and gizmos early. Samsung is one of these companies which is showing off some new displays this year. They have a few new models and features to go along with the displays, which we will look at below. Samsung Neo QLED If you wanted a new technology that sounds like something between the Matrix and science fiction, this is it. Samsung is introducing a new technology called Neo QLED to its flagship 8K and 4K QN9 models. This technology bumps up the quality of QLED by using Quantum Mini LED technology “precisely controlled by Quantum Matrix Technology and [a] Neo Quantum Processor.” Basically,... Read more...
It is CES 2021 time and companies are beginning to show off what they have created over the last year.  Now, Dell is back in business with a number of different laptops that have been refreshed with the latest Intel Core processors and some extra nifty features.  We have compiled some of what they have to show down below, and there are certainly some interesting things this year... Latitude 5000 Series The Dell Latitude 5000 Series could be the best choice for business and educational purposes of all the offerings from Dell. While that statement is bold, the laptops have some bold specs to back that up. Within the 5000 Series is the 13.3” Latitude 5320, 14” Latitude 5420,... Read more...
