Twitter is making it a little more difficult to be an anonymous troll. The social media giant is getting rid of its default “egg” profile picture. This default has come to be associated on Twitter with harassment and abuse. This has created an association between the default egg profile photo and negative behavior, which isn’t fair to people who are still new to Twitter and haven’t yet personalized their profile... There has always been a parallel between building and modding performance PCs and tuning muscle cars, both of which revolve around squeezing every ounce of power and speed available out of a careful selection of parts, a practice that Maingear helped spread to a wider audience. Maingear took an obsession enjoyed by a niche crowd of overclockers and modders and turned it into a full-fledged business that's now going on 15 years strong. That is not to say Maingear was the first boutique builder on the block. Far from it. However, it might be the only vendor whose founder, Wallace Santos, actually... Read more...
If your brand spanking new, highly coveted Nintendo Switch is experiencing Joy-Con connectivity issues, you are not alone. Nintendo has just responded to the many disappointed Switch owners who have not received any joy from their controllers. The issue appears to lie primarily with the left Joy-Con controller, if its signal is interrupted while in TV mode. This will occur, for example, when another person stands between the Joy-Con and the Switch. The system’s first update does not appear to have fixed the issue. Nintendo stated, “We have received some reports and are looking into them. As with... Read more...
Independent testing of Ryzen (including our own in-depth benchmarking and analysis) confirms what AMD has promising all along, that its fancy new CPU architecture is the real deal and it is able to compete with Intel at the high end. The only caveat is that Ryzen's gaming performance is not where many thought it would be, especially considering the architecture's excellent IPC efficiency and performance in other areas, such as Cinebench and POV-Ray. What gives? The short answer is, this is a temporary thing until developers get rolling with optimizations. During an "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) session... Read more...
Nintendo is getting ready to shake up the gaming console space with its Switch, a hybrid system that equal parts about playing games in the living room as it is about getting your gaming fix on the go. A key aspect of being able to tackle stationary and mobile gaming is the control scheme. We'll need some hands on time to truly get a feel for how things work, though in the meantime Nintendo has released a video that focuses on its detachable Joy-Con controllers. There are left and right Joy-Con controllers that detach from the Switch when playing games in front of a big screen TV and attach to... Read more...
This might come as a surprise to, well, absolutely no one, Nintendo appears to be dealing with a shortage of its new hybrid Switch console almost a full month before it even releases to retail. Anticipated supply is so far behind demand that reports are surfacing of major retailers cancelling pre-orders. Among them are Target and GameStop, though the latter has since issued a statement denying that's the case. "GameStop has not, and is not, cancelling any Nintendo Switch pre-orders due to allocation issues. We are working very closely to confirm and validate any and all pre-orders of this innovative... NVIDIA announced an updated SHIELD TV bundle back at the Consumer Electronics Show, which offers a host of new features thanks to some fresh hardware and an Android Nougat based OS upgrade. The updated SHIELD TV, however, isn’t totally new. Internally, the device was still packing NVIDIA’s Tegra X1 SoC like the original, which, even after a couple of years on the market, is still an exceptionally strong performer. The new SHIELD TV also has the same memory and base storage configurations, and the SHIELD Remote is similar too. However, NVIDIA significantly shrunk down the chassis by eliminating... Read more...
