The gift giving season is virtually upon us, and because you worked hard this year, it's okay to treat yourself while you're at it. Heck, it's all but unavoidable with all the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals around the bend. That includes the newest generation game consoles -- Microsoft will be on board, as it always is, and Sony just announced a couple of game bundles for its PlayStation 4 system. The first is the Grand Theft Auto V PS4 Black Friday Bundle. It consists of a 500GB PS4 system and a copy of GTA V, along with a digital download voucher for The Last of Us Remastered, all for the system's regular selling price of $400. Bear in mind that Rockstar Games put some effort into differentiating... Read more...
The Guinness World Records 2015 Gamer’s Edition was released on November 6 for gamers who might be curious as to the longest gaming session, which franchise has earned the most in gross sales, or just basic facts and figures related to gaming. One particular topic that tends to generate discussion is what game franchise is the best. For Guinness, Activision’s first-person shooter franchise, Call of Duty, beat out other franchises, such as Grand Theft Auto and Mario Bros, to be named the best franchise ever. “More than 5,000 fans of the book from 140 countries across the world took to an online poll to vote for their favorite games, and the top 50 record-breaking games were featured... After blowing out both of my knees, at least one of which is still in need of more surgical repair, I find it's safer and generally easier on my body (though not always my sanity) to drop dimes and take it strong to the rim in basketball simulations than it is to hop back on the blacktop. That's one of the reasons why I'm looking forward to NBA 2K15 by 2K Games. And the other? Face mapping technology. I'm short, white, and like to pretend I still have an athletic build. Creating an in-game character with those traits is pretty easy, but even after tweaking the hair and goatee, the resemblance is always minor at best. That won't be the case in NBA 2K15. According to an AP report, the developers... Read more...
When it comes to lucrative game franchises two of the most well-known ones happen to be Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto. Activision publishes the CoD franchise while Take-Two Interactive is responsible for publishing GTA. However, there are rumors floating around that Activision might be trying to purchase Take-Two. Speculation began when a research note from Benchmark analyst Mike Hickey talked about “an emerging romance” between both companies. Hickey said, “For Activision, acquiring Take-Two Interactive would be a no-brainer, in our view, circling some of the strongest development talent and owned IP in the world, within a company that has nearly $1 billion in cash and... For those of us who find most mobile games to be unengaging, the rise of so-called “premium” games on mobile platforms is a welcome development. Big names have been trotting out the likes of Modern Combat 5: Blackout (Gameloft) and Mass Effect: Infiltrator (EA), which tend to carry high price tags, but pack better graphics and gameplay that your typical $1.99 game or freebie. Now, 2K is readying the original Bioshock for iOS. You could be playing Bioshock on your iPad as early as this summer. Bioshock for iOS. Gearbox Software, maker of the popular Borderlands series, is back with a new title that promises some of that exciting genre-bending fun the company has made successful. In tandem with 2K, Gearbox announced a futuristic shooter called Battleborn. “If Borderlands 2 is a shooter-looter, Battleborn is a hero-shooter,” said Gearbox president Randy Pitchford in a press release. “As a genre-fused, hobby-grade, co-operative and competitive FPS exploding with eye-popping style and an imaginative universe, Battleborn is the most ambitious video game that Gearbox has ever created.” Battleborn is set up in a multiplayer battle arena where you can be any number of clever and interesting... Since Firaxis took the veil off of Civilization: Beyond Earth in April, we've had a relative dearth of information to run on, and especially a lack of media to soak in (three official screenshots!). Well, both problems have now been remedied, and as an added bonus, the company has finally given us a release date: October 24, 2014. While Firaxis hasn't provided us any new screenshots, it's done one better: It's posted a video that gives us a better peak at what's coming, and what to expect. If you've played previous Civilization titles, and especially Civilization V, it looks like you're going to feel right at home here. Even the graphics look more like a mod than anything else - which really... Read more...
Despite the fact that Grand Theft Auto V was released over nine months ago, it continues to find its way into headlines sometimes for good reasons, other times for less-than-ideal reasons. But regardless of those reasons, publicity is publicity, and I'm sure Rockstar welcomes it. The game, which was recently announced to come to additional platforms this fall, once again finds itself in headlines today, and from an unsuspecting source: Lindsay Lohan. As it happens, a character in GTA V resembles Lohan slightly, and apparently shares a similar voice and clothes line. Generally, I write this kind of accusation off right away, but this is Rockstar we're dealing with, and it's hardly a stranger to... Read more...
You can get a jump start on the 4th of July festivities by downloading a Grand Theft Auto V title update (version 1.15) containing special content for Independence Day. This is very much a themed update with two new vehicles sporting permanent American Flag livery -- the Sovereign motorcycle and the super-sized Liberator monster truck. All that's missing is a bumper sticker declaring, "These colors don't run!" Naturally no GTA V update would be complete without new weapons, and this one brings them in a form of a high-powered Musket and a Firework Rocket Launcher. It also introduces four types of fireworks that can be purchased at Ammu-Nation, each of which come in three colors -- red, white,... Read more...
Back in March we posted an article about GTA V and said that one of these days we’d post a piece stating that the title is finally available for the PC. Well, today is that day. Rockstar posted the news that Grand Theft Auto V is indeed coming to the PC, this fall. It’s also going to be available on Microsoft’s and Sony’s next-gen Xbox One and PS4 consoles. “Grand Theft Auto V will take full advantage of the power of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC with across-the-board graphical and technical improvements to deliver a stunning new level of detail,” reads a news post. “Increased draw distances, finer texture details, denser traffic, and enhanced resolutions... One of these days, we're going to post an article declaring that Grand Theft Auto V is finally available for PC. Unfortunately today is not that day. However, Rockstar Games isn't just sitting around idle -- we've seen a handful of game patches released in the last few months, and there's yet another available that adds some new items and fixes a bunch of bugs. GTAV title update 1.11 adds new clothing to the clothes store, new tattoo options, four new hairstyles (two male and two female), some new masks, green and purple tire smoke colors, new vehicles (Grotti Turismo R, Dinka Jester, Albany Alpha, and Buckingham Vestra), new weapons (heavy pistol and special carbine), and three celebrations... It's said the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, and towards that end, the daughter of a mafia kingpin is accusing Rockstar Games of having used her story without her permission in Grand Theft Auto V. Her name is Karen Gravano, daughter of Salvatore Gravano (otherwise known as Sammy the Bull) and former star of the reality show Mob Wives. Gravano filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday claiming that Rockstar Games ripped off her image and real-life story to create the in-game character Antonia Bottino and the incidents surrounding her. "Notwithstanding the fact that plaintiff has the utmost respect for the writers and creators of the Grand Theft Auto V video gamer... her story... Read more...
Throw your controller across the room in a fit of rage, if you must. Hell, punch a pillow, kick a nearby door, or question the virtual referee's eyesight. At no point, however, are you to curse within earshot of the Kinect or PlayStation Camera while playing NBA 2K14, because if you do, there's a good chance you'll be hit with a technical foul for using foul language. I can attest that this same feature exists in NBA 2K13 (hey, things get heated out there, what can I say?). Still, some gamers are taking exception to not being able to swear in their own living room without being penalized for it, so why does the feature exist? "This was a feature we incorporated in NBA 2K13 that we felt brought... Read more...
When it comes to waiting for ports, mobile gamers sometimes have it worse than the PC crowd. How so? Consider that while PC gamers are chomping at the bit (or "champing," if you want to avoid a citation from the grammar police) to play Grand Theft Auto V on their platform of choice, mobile gamers are still waiting for GTA: San Andreas. Well, good news mobile users, your wait has almost come to an end. Rockstar Games today announced that San Andreas is headed to mobile devices next month. There aren't any screenshots to gawk at just yet, though Rockstar did say the mobile version will look better than any previous release. It will also feature brand new touch controls, contextual control options,... Read more...
