Yesterday morning, we first brought you word of Dell's latest XPS 13 ultraportable, which has been completely redesigned for 2020. Dell has hit it out of the park this time around with a device that is smaller, thinner, and lighter while at the same time packing in a slightly larger 13.4-inch 16:10 display. Needless to say, we were eager to get our hands on the new laptop, and we've got video footage of the XPS 13 in its full glory embedded below: It's one thing to see the XPS 13 in renders, but the real-life footage gives you a good idea at how tiny the bezels are with the “Four-Sided” InfinityEdge display. Even with the extremely tiny bezels all around, Dell was still able... Read more...
The Dell XPS 13 has always earned high marks here at HotHardware for its excellent all-around performance and highly portable design. However, the folks at Dell aren't content with the status-quo, and have launched a completely redesigned XPS 13 that delivers all of the performance that we've come to expect within a thinner, lighter, and smaller chassis. We have to kick off the discussion by talking about the display. Even though the new XPS 13 is smaller all around, Dell was able to equip the laptop with a larger 13.4-inch InfinityEdge display (16:10 aspect ratio). Actually, it's a 4-sided InfinityEdge display if we get technical. That means that the bezels are minimal and the XPS... Read more...
Intel released two families of 10th generation mobile processors over the summer: Comet Lake and Ice Lake. Of the two, Ice Lake garnered the most attention as these processors are based on Intel's long-delayed 10nm+ process tech and feature an all-new graphics core. The chip giant is on track to release another round of 10nm mobile processors in 2020 under the codename Tiger Lake. Tiger Lake will use Intel's optimized 10nm++ architecture, and today we're getting an early look at performance benchmarks for the processors. The leak comes courtesy of Zhihu, which was first spotted by the folks at WCCFTech. The chips were emblazoned with the ES2 designation, which indicates that these are... Read more...
The ink is barely dry on the release announcement for the Surface Laptop 3, but Microsoft is already piling on the discounts for the ultra-portable. In this case, Microsoft is providing a big discount on the 256GB SKU of the 13.5-inch Surface Laptop 3. The Surface Laptop 3 typically starts at $999 for 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The next step up includes a 256GB SSD and is priced at $1,299. However, with this latest discount, Microsoft is knocking $300 off the price, making the 256GB version the same price as the entry-level model. The discount applies to all five available colors: Sandstone, Black, Cobalt Blue (w/Alcantara palm rest), Platinum, and Platinum (w/Alcantara palm rest). Microsoft's... Read more...
Experiencing strong demand for your products isn't inherently a bad thing, as we're certain that most high-volume companies would love to see products flying off the shelves while the revenue comes pouring in. However, it can become a big problem when your manufacturing capacity can't keep up with that insatiable demand, and that as we've reported on numerous occasions, is the problem that Intel is facing at the moment with its popular Core and Xeon processor lines. Intel's switchover to the 10nm hasn't exactly been a smooth process, and it has limited capacity to produce Ice Lake parts at the moment. The fact that it can't fully commit to 10nm is exacerbated by the fact that the overwhelming... Read more...
Intel kicked off volume shipments over its 10th generation 10nm Ice Lake processors for the consumer laptop market during Q3, and it looks as though roughly a year's time will elapse before we see Ice Lake-based designs arrive for the workstation and server markets (i.e. Xeon processors). A presentation slide taken from an ASUS IoT seminar gives us a glimpse at what Intel has in store with these Ice Lake-SP processors. For starters, the processors will be paired with the Whitley chipset and will use Socket P+ in 2S configurations. Intel is planning to make Ice Lake-SP available in up to 38-core/76-thread configurations (per socket) with a TDP (Thermal Design Power) of 270 watts. Other features... Read more...

Dell's XPS family of premium laptops has long been synonymous with excellent performance and build quality. In particular, the XPS 13 lineup has included some of the most highly awarded ultraportable PCs on the market today. Today, we have Dell's latest XPS 13 on hand: model 7390, which is a 2-in-1 model with a 360 degree hinge and a 13.3-inch multi-touch IPS display that converts what looks like an otherwise-traditional laptop into a tablet. Perhaps more importantly, this is the first retail notebook we've gotten our mitts on with Intel's 10nm CPUs, codenamed Ice Lake, in tow. In fact, Dell says this is the first notebook shipped to market with an Ice Lake processor inside. Anticipation... Read more...
It's no secret that Intel has a lot riding on its "Ice Lake" 10th generation Core CPUs manufactured on its 10-nanometer fabrication process. The chipmaker got by on squeezing more power and efficiency out of its 14-nm node for what seemed like an eternity, but we're talking about a mobile sector that relentlessly demands more performance and longer battery life. This oft-delayed Intel process node promises to reduce power consumption and increase performance by a wide margin over the Kaby Lake Refresh processors that previously served as the brains for thin and light PCs. Dell's XPS 13 2-In-1 Gets Ice Lake Engine Under The Hood One of the first Ice Lake systems available at retail is Dell's XPS... Read more...
Microsoft held its yearly Surface event today in New York City, and the company is living up to the hype that has been building leaving up to the big unveil. There have been plenty of rumors swirling around the devices, and those reports have largely turned out to be accurate as we're staring at the Surface Laptop 3. The Surface Laptop 3 is available in two screen sizes: 13-inches and 15-inches (as previously reported). This is the first time that the larger 15-inch form-factor has been available for the Surface Laptop product line, and gives users who want a bit more screen real estate a new alternative.  Under the hood, it has been confirmed that the 13-inch model is using quad-core... Hewlett-Packard is refreshing its popular Spectre x360 13 with a number of critical upgrades that make it an even more compelling mobile warrior for professionals. Perhaps the biggest change comes with respect to the device's chassis, which has nipped and tucked to the max. HP has managed to shrink the Spectre x360 13 by 13 percent compared to its 2018 counterpart, mainly due to changes that have been made around the display. Last year's model had a screen-to-body ratio of 78 percent compared to 90 recent for this new 2019 edition, which explains the reduction in exterior dimensions for the convertible. With its new, tidier dimensions, the Spectre x360 13 now weighs in at an impressive 2.8 pounds.... Read more...
