After years of delays, Intel is ready to put the pedal to metal with its 10nm computing products. Although it's been on Intel's roadmap for quite some time, Intel's first-generation 10nm platform, codenamed Ice Lake, is currently still tracking for a holiday 2019 launch for thin and light notebooks and 2-in-1 convertibles. Intel's 10nm Ice Lake The Ice Lake platform is highly integrated, but at its core is Intel's 10nm Sunny Cove processor microarchitecture. Also along for the ride is are all-new instructions dedicated to machine learning (DL Boost), native Thunderbolt 3 connectivity... Read more...
Intel has been put through the ringer recently due to the numerous delays facing its 10nm process node, and with good reason given how long the company has milked the 14nm node. Just yesterday, the company was forced to issue a public statement (via Twitter) to refute a report claiming that the company had abandoned its 10nm process technology altogether. Despite all the drama, there are 10nm Intel Core processors already making the rounds, including the Cannon Lake based Core i3-8121U, which has its integrated GPU disabled. Now, we're getting a quick and dirty look at an alleged... Read more...
Back in late July, Intel confirmed what many of us feared would be the case -- its first fully-functional 10nm chips won't be shipping until late 2019 for consumer systems, which is over a year from now. At the time, Intel didn't give us any indication about when 10nm tech would start filtering down to its workstation- and server-grade Xeon processors. That is all changing today, as the company announced plans at its Data-Centric Innovation Summit for the next two years with regards to its Xeon Scalable processor family. The first round of processors in the Xeon Scalable processor family will be... Read more...
Intel's next Xeon server platform is called Cascade Lake, and it looms just around the corner. After that, however, Intel will launch its 10nm Ice Lake chips. Details on Ice Lake have been pretty sparse up to this point, though some key details about the platform has been revealed by Power Stamp Alliance, which tasks itself with creating collaborative solutions for 48V-to-low-voltage on-boad isolated and non-isolated DC-DC power converters, and its members such as Bel Power Solutions. Some of the information is contained in documentation for an evaluation board that Power Stamp Alliance created... Read more...
If you regularly follow tech -- which we're quite sure you do -- then you likely know all about the alarming Spectre and Meltdown chip vulnerabilities that were first revealed just a few weeks ago. The good news is that software and hardware partners from around the globe have worked to issue OS patches and BIOS/microcode updates to help mitigate the exploits. Now, Intel says that it will include actual hardware fixes in silicon to address Meltdown and Spectre, in future processor releases. Intel CEO Brian Krzanich made the comments during the company's Q4 2017 earnings call yesterday,... Read more...
We've been talking a lot about Intel's upcoming Coffee Lake architecture for the past few months, and are eagerly awaiting its arrival. However, it appears that Intel has even more potent chips in the pipeline that will go beyond the hexa-core chips that will highlight Coffee Lake. Heads (and eyes) are probably rolling at Intel HQ, because a representative for Eurocom confirmed that Intel's Z390 chipset will be launching during the second half of 2018. That much was known thanks to leaked roadmaps that have made their way to the internet. An interesting tidbit of information that was also revealed,... Read more...
Intel is promising "amazing performance and responsiveness" from its Ice Lake processor family, and in doing so has officially confirmed the successor to the 8th generation Core processor family. Not many details were shared—other than hyping up the performance, Intel said its Ice Lake chips will be built on its 10-nanometer+ (10nm+) process technology, which will succeed Cannon Lake. Following all of these product names can be a bit confusing, so we will try to clear things up as best we can. On Monday, August 21 (same day as the upcoming total solar eclipse), Intel will launch its 8th generation... Read more...
Intel has been quite the busy bee lately, both in terms of designing and producing new processors, and on social media to announce its achievements. The Santa Clara chipmaker recently blasted out a handful of Twitter posts to let everyone know that its 10-nanometer Cannon Lake architecture is still "on track" for a release this year, and that it has already begun taping out its second generation 10nm product called Ice Lake. Another milestone for 10nm: Cannon Lake on track and we’ve now taped in Ice Lake, our 2nd-generation 10nm product. pic.twitter.com/DUDm3MsBaB — Intel Official News (@intelnews)... Read more...
