As expected, Apple has announced the latest update to its entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro, and it's pretty much a mixed bag if you been hanging on to every leaked spec that has been churned out by the rumormill. However, it's still a pretty solid upgrade for those that are firmly within the Apple camp. The biggest change, however, is the move to Apple's Magic Keyboard, which uses butterfly-style switches instead of the hated and failure-prone scissor switches that the company first introduced back in 2015. The release of Microsoft's Surface Go 2 and Surface Book 3 is imminent, as regulatory agencies have been dripping information on the upcoming Windows 10 devices. The latest leaks are coming courtesy of Energy Star certification for both devices. In the case of the Surface Go 2, the convertible is confirmed to come equipped with an Intel Core m3-8100Y processor, which should allow it to continue on with a fanless design. This particular model is also equipped with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. We've been following the travails of GPD's Win Max family of handheld PCs for quite some time, and now the company is [nearly] ready to launch a new Win Max handheld gaming PC, and it seems pretty impressive given its specs. For starters, the machine packs quite a punch despite its diminutive stature. Powering the Win Max is an Intel Core i5-1035G7 "Ice Lake" processor, which has a base clock of 1.2GHz and a boost clock of 3.7GHz. When we evaluated the late 2019 model of Dell's XPS 13, we thought a few small things kept that ultraportable from achieving complete perfection. That machine shipped with Intel's Comet Lake-U family of processors, which are plenty fast on the CPU side of things. However, they lack the graphics "oomph" of Intel's latest Iris Plus graphics, available in Ice Lake-based 10th-Gen processors. This (very slightly) older model also had a 1920x1080 display with a 16:9 aspect ratio, while the Ice Lake-equipped 2-in-1 model had a slightly higher resolution 1920x1200, 16:10 display. Apple has refreshed its popular 13-inch MacBook Air entry-level laptop, and there's a lot to like about this new model. Apple has seemingly addressed nearly every complaint about the previous generation with some very useful upgrades. For starters, Apple has tossed the unreliable and hated (by nearly everyone) butterfly-style keyboard mechanism in favor of the Magic Keyboard found in the 16-inch MacBook Pro (which uses a scissor-style mechanism). So much of the attention on Intel's 2020 CPU lineup has been on the company's upcoming Comet Lake-S and Comet Lake-H desktop processors, and whatever 10-nanometer products might be in the pipeline. Lest we forget, though, Intel will be refreshing its Xeon server processors as well. As it pertains to that, some leaked slides potentially give us some insight into Intel's plans. Intel has been refreshingly honest about its beleaguered progress with the 10nm process node, which was delayed many times, allowing AMD to gain an advantage with its 7nm Zen 2-based family of processors. With that being said, Intel does have 10nm Ice Lake processors currently making the rounds in the notebook segment, and its 10nm+ Tiger Lake processors are on track for release later this year. Late last year, Apple performed a major update to its flagship MacBook Pro family with the release of a new 16-inch model. The company kept the same Intel Coffee Lake processors, but included a number of key updates including a replacement for the failure-prone and unloved butterfly keyboard. Intel is planning to roll out new Xeon processors this year, including ones built around its 10th generation Ice Lake architecture, which is already shipping in consumer laptops. Acer has just announced a new family of ultra-thin Swift 3 laptops, and they are aimed at professionals that want a powerful and lightweight platform for on-the-go travel. Yesterday morning, we first brought you word of Dell's latest XPS 13 ultraportable, which has been completely redesigned for 2020. Dell has hit it out of the park this time around with a device that is smaller, thinner, and lighter while at the same time packing in a slightly larger 13.4-inch 16:10 display. Intel released two families of 10th generation mobile processors over the summer: Comet Lake and Ice Lake. Of the two, Ice Lake garnered the most attention as these processors are based on Intel's long-delayed 10nm+ process tech and feature an all-new graphics core. The chip giant is on track to release another round of 10nm mobile processors in 2020 under the codename Tiger Lake. In this case, Microsoft is providing a big discount on the 256GB SKU of the 13.5-inch Surface Laptop 3. The Surface Laptop 3 typically starts at $999 for 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Experiencing strong demand for your products isn't inherently a bad thing, as we're certain that most high-volume companies would love to see products flying off the shelves while the revenue comes pouring in. However, it can become a big problem when your manufacturing capacity can't keep up with that insatiable demand, and that as we've reported on numerous occasions, is the problem that Intel is facing at the moment with its popular Core and Xeon processor lines. Intel kicked off volume shipments over its 10th generation 10nm Ice Lake processors for the consumer laptop market during Q3, and it looks as though roughly a year's time will elapse before we see Ice Lake-based designs arrive for the workstation and server markets (i.e. Xeon processors). A presentation slide taken from an ASUS IoT seminar gives us a glimpse at what Intel has in store with these Ice Lake-SP processors. When it comes to 7nm chip production, TSMC has been on the bleeding edge of technological development. TSMC is the leading producer of 7nm designs for a number of leading tech giants like Qualcomm, AMD, and Apple (among others). Dell's XPS family of premium laptops has long been synonymous with excellent performance and build quality. It's no secret that Intel has a lot riding on its "Ice Lake" 10th generation Core CPUs manufactured on its 10-nanometer fabrication process. The chipmaker got by on squeezing more power and efficiency out of its 14-nm node for what seemed like an eternity, but we're talking about a mobile sector that relentlessly demands more performance and longer battery life. Microsoft held its yearly Surface event today in New York City, and the company is living up to the hype that has been building leaving up to the big unveil.
