Acer’s Sleek Swift 3 Laptops Offer Choice Of AMD Ryzen 7 4700U Or Intel Ice Lake CPUs

Acer has just announced a new family of ultra-thin Swift 3 laptops, and they are aimed at professionals that want a powerful and lightweight platform for on-the-go travel. Thankfully, Acer is providing plenty of muscle for customers with the choice of either AMD’s new Zen 2-based Ryzen 7 4700U processors or Intel’s 10th generation Core (Ice Lake) processors.

The Intel model is the Swift 3 (SF313-52/G) and features a 13.5-inch display (2256x1504). It is available with a Core i3-1005G1 on base systems, but can be configured with up to a Core i7-1065G7. Up to 16GB of LPDDR4x memory can be installed along with up to a 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD.

Acer provides the machine with a 56 WHr battery that is good for up to 6 of runtime and the SF313-52/G only weighs in at 2.62 pounds. Fast charging is supported, which can give you four hours of runtime with just a 30-minute charge. When it comes to port selection, you’ll find a Thunderbolt 3 port, USB 2.0/USB 3.1 ports, HDMI port, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0 and an HD webcam.

For those opting for AMD power, there’s the Swift 3 (SF314-42) which features a slightly larger 14-inch display in a still lightweight 2.65-pound frame. Like its Intel counterpart, you’ll find up to 16GB of LPDDR4x memory onboard, although the SSD tops out at 512GB instead of 1TB.

The Ryzen 7 4700U system also gets dinged when it comes to ports, as you won’t find Thunderbolt 3, and the USB 3.1 support has been tossed in favor of USB 3.0. You do get a USB-C (Gen 2) port and you’ll still receive Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 support along with the HD webcam.

On the other hand, there are still two more downsides for the SF314-42 compared to its Intel sibling. Although it has a larger 14-inch display, the resolution is lower at 1920x1080 and battery life takes a big hit, falling from 16 hours in the Ice Lake system to just 10 hours here.

Acer says that the Swift 3 (SF313-52/G) will be available starting in March priced from $699, while the Swift 3 (SF314-42) will bow in May with a starting price of $599.
