Amazon is the biggest online retailer in the world, and so you can bet it is going to have a whole bunch of products on sale for the holiday season, and specifically the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping bonanza that looms next week. In anticipation of the shopping frenzy that awaits, Amazon is offering a sneak peek of its upcoming Black Friday deals, some of which are live right now. "Whether customers are readying their house for the holidays or searching for gift-giving inspiration, they will find incredible savings and fast, free shipping options on the hottest items across toys, electronics,... Black Friday is still over three weeks away, but retailers are already showing their hand with respect to what deals they will have. So far, we've seen the tech goodies that Costco, Sam's Club, Kohl's and Target will have on the biggest shopping day of the year. Amazon doesn't want to be left out, but it isn't quite ready to give us a look at its hottest Black Friday deals. Instead, the company is giving us a rundown of its pre-Black Friday deals what will run from November 16th through November 22nd. Without further ado, here's what to expect: November 16th:... When it comes to Amazon's Fire TV family of media streamers, the Fire TV Cube is the flagship of the family. However, it also comes with a price tag of $119.99. Today, however, HSN is selling the Fire TV Cube for a much more enticing $59.99, which is half off its normal selling price. That's also only $10 more than the brand-new Fire TV Stick 4K, which is far less capable.  Besides including Alexa functionality for controlling your smart home devices, it is also capable of controlling your A/V equipment (i.e. receivers, sound bars and cable/satellite boxes) with just... Here's my bold, and maybe biased prediction: Red Sox are going to the World Series, Patriots are headed to the Super Bowl, Celtics are a lock for the NBA Finals, and the Bruins will compete for the Stanley Cup. If you're a diehard Boston sports fan like myself and want to catch all the glory on something bigger and better than 32-inch TV, you can upsize your viewing experience at Amazon today with a snazzy deal on a Toshiba 50-inch 4K Ultra HD Smart TV for $349.99. That's a good deal even if you hate Boston sports (unthinkable!). This is one of Amazon's Fire TV Edition models too, which means the... Read more...
Amazon has made it so that users of the Amazon Fire TV with the pendant design can no longer use the official Amazon Fire TV Game Controller. The controller is incompatible with the Fire TV device after the latest 6.2.5.3 software update for the third-generation device is applied. Scuttlebutt suggests that the Fire TV Cube will also soon lose support for the gamepad. This move wasn't an accident with a new disclaimer at the bottom of the page for the Fire TV Game Controller that reads "not compatible with Fire TV with 4K Ultra HD - Pendant Design, Fire TV Edition smart TVs, or Fire TV Cube." That... Read more...
Best Buy and Amazon are fierce rivals in the electronics market, with the former having a big presence in the brick and mortar side of things, while the latter absolutely dominates the online sector. The two companies are now joining forces to sell new Fire TV Edition smart TVs in a rather interesting arrangement. The two companies inked a multi-year partnership that will see Best Buy as the exclusive retailer for Insignia- and Toshiba-branded Fire TV Edition smart TVs. These sets will be sold at both Best Buy's brick and mortar and online stores. In addition, the TVs will be sold via the Amazon... Read more...
If you're an Amazon Fire TV owner, it looks as though your access to the native YouTube client is coming to an end sooner than expected. Google originally stated that access to the app would be removed from Fire TV and Echo Show devices on January 1st 2018, which is next Monday. However, customers are reporting that access was revoked today. Customers who attempt to access the YouTube app are greeted with a message that redirects them to YouTube.com either through Amazon's own Silk browser or Mozilla's newly installed Firefox browser for the Fire TV. In a statement sent to the press today, an Amazon... Read more...
Another holiday season has come and gone, though not before Amazon, the world's biggest online retailer, hit a new shopping record. That seems par for course these days, which itself is pretty remarkable. The holiday season was also a boon for Amazon's Prime membership program. More than 4 million started a Prime trial or paid membership in just one hectic week of holiday shopping. The massive influx of Prime memberships (trial and paid combined) during the past week is proof positive that free two-day shipping on millions of qualifying items continues to be a major draw, though far from the only... Amazon has announced that users of the Fire TV devices can now surf the web on their TVs thanks to the addition of Firefox and Silk web browsers. The move is yet another way to give Fire TV users access to YouTube while Amazon and Google are still fighting it out in public. The YouTube app was pulled from the Fire TV and Echo Show, then returned, and then was pulled again. Amazon is said to be considering its own YouTube rival in the wake of the spat. Along with giving access to YouTube -- something that Amazon deftly avoids mentioning in its press release about the feature -- users will also be... Read more...
There was a collective "meh" from the media streaming community when Apple launched its Apple TV 4K last month. Priced from $179, many felt that the streamer doesn't really offer much over its rivals besides the ability to tap into the Apple ecosystem. However, Roku, which is the market leader in streaming players, is fighting back with an updated family of products to fight the competition from Apple, Amazon and Google. The most interesting member of the family is the all-new Streaming Stick+.  This powerful little device has a "dongle" form-factor, and incorporates an advanced wireless receiver... Read more...
There may be a new 4K Apple TV launching tomorrow, but a carefully-timed leak from Amazon is looking to steal the show today. We don't know if this was planned "corporate leak" from Amazon itself, but there are two new Fire TV products that will be arriving shortly from Amazon. The first model features a dongle-style form-factor, which houses some potent hardware (at least for a media streamer). Its design makes it more similar in concept to the Google Chromecast than the Fire TV Stick, which has been the entry point to Amazon's streaming TV offerings. This particular model, which goes by the codename... Read more...

It is the reason why Mark Zuckerberg and the gang in 2016 launched Facebook Live, a live streaming feature similar to Periscope, and it is why you will soon be able to watch Facebook videos on your television through a new app for TV. It is... Read more...

Around this time last week, Apple was making waves with its all-new Apple TV. Apple boasted that its new streaming device features a brand new motion- and touch-sensitive controller, potent A8 processor with 2GB of memory, support for Siri voice recognition, and a brand new App Store. However, given how long Apple took to trot out a new version of the Apple TV, there was one box on the device’s specs sheet that was curiously unchecked: support for 4K video streaming. Like clockwork, Amazon is ready to respond with its second generation Fire TV, an introduction that we surmised was coming due to... Read more...
