Epic Games is promising "hot new surprise" to be found in Fortnite's newly unleashed Chapter 2 Season 3, though players will have plenty of opportunities to cool off in what has essentially become a giant water park. The island's been flooded, though landlubbers need not worry, there are plenty of dry spots to be found as well. For most, however, water is simply the new normal in Fortnite, at least for the current season. "Survive more than just the storm in the aftermath of its revenge. As the island adapts to its flooded way of life, stay afloat and take on new challenges," Epic Games says. Getting to the wet and wild fun that awaits was not without a bit of controversy. As has become customary,... Read more...
Following a series of delays, Fortnite's doomsday event called The Device finally took place yesterday, effectively putting an end to Chapter 2 Season 2. The event left many gamers miffed. Not because they did not want Season 2 to conclude—they are angry because Epic Games did not have the server capacity to host everyone who wanted to log in and witness the hoopla. These season-ending events draw large crowds. Fortnite is already a popular game, but things kick up a notch at the conclusion of each season, because something big and potentially game-changing typically occurs. Players understandably want to witness these sort of things. And many of them did yesterday—so many, in fact,... Read more...
Doomsday is coming to Fortnite, just not as originally scheduled. Following a series of delays, the most recent of which was in response to Black Lives Matter protests, Fortnite current Season 2 Chapter 3 is now only days away from happening. Before the new Chapter kicks off, however, a live event called The Device will commence later today. "The team is eager to move Fortnite forward, but we need to balance the Season 3 launch with time for the team to focus on themselves, their families, and their communities," Epic Games announced earlier this month. Today's live The Device event is a doomsday scenario and it will take place at precisely 2:00 pm ET (11:00 am PT), according to a countdown timer... Read more...
One thing you can count on in Fortnite is things are always going to change at some point. Sometimes the changes are minor, other times they alter the landscape in dramatic ways. With that said, the developers seem to be hinting that Fortnite Season 2 Chapter 3 will see the map hit by a massive flood, so get ready to swim. This looks to be a complete flood with parts of the map going underwater. In the lead up to what appears to be an inevitable event, Fortnite players have spotted curious puddles appearing in different areas of the map. Several players have posted screenshots of the puddles on Twitter and Reddit, though they are not brand new. ⚜️#News⚜️ 🇮🇹 In giro per la mappa stanno apparendo... Read more...

It is the end of the world as we know it, at least in Fortnite, and players feel fine. A doomsday countdown timer recently appeared in the battle royale smash-hit game, and this particular timer likely hints at an end-of-season event for Chapter 2 Season 2. Data miners quickly found files for a countdown timer after the v12.60 update was dropped. This timer is now visible to players in two locations. One timer appears on the player’s home screen, while another is visible in Midas’ office (seen above). The timers are counting down to end on Saturday, May 30 at 2:05 PM  EST. The timers are not the only indication of an end-of-season event. Tubes that lead to an orb-shaped... Read more...

Epic Games is giving us our first real look at its upcoming Unreal Engine 5, and it’s nothing short of spectacular beauty. The company has posted a nearly 10-minute long video of a real-time tech demo that is entitled “Lumen in the Land of Nanite”, along with some great commentary explaining what’s going on in real-time.  The title of the game is a reference to two new tools that are featured in Unreal Engine 5: Lumen and Nanite. Lumen refers to a fully dynamic global illumination that allows the scene to react to lighting changes in real-time. Nanite uses what’s called virtualized micropolygon geometry to create incredibly detailed landscapes from “film... Read more...
Fortnite is no stranger to collaborations. Could their next collaboration be with Nintendo? The character Kirby recently made an appearance in a Fortnite trailer. It is unclear why Kirby was included in this Fortnite trailer, but the Internet already has a few theories. Kirby makes the briefest of appearances in the Fortnite Party Royale trailer. If you look very closely, he can be spotted around the 1-second mark of the trailer. He is dancing on a video monitor. Interestingly, Kirby has been blurred out in the trailers that were posted on the Xbox and PlayStation 4 channels. What is Kirby doing in this video? Some have speculated that a collaboration between Nintendo and Fortnite is imminent.... Read more...
Going to a dance party and bumping bottoms with a large group of people is not exactly the best idea in the world right now—social distancing is still in vogue. That's okay, because Epic Games is bringing the party to you, in virtual form of course. And naturally, Fortnite is the venue, with some special guests planning to attend the Fortnite Party Royale Premiere. The event kicks off this Friday, May 8, at 9:00pm ET (6:00pm PT). It's basically another live concert, this time with Dillon Francis, Steve Aoki, and deadmau5 in attendance. The three DJs will perform their own live sets back-to-back on the big screen in the Main Stage, while attendees are invited to "hit the dance floor, chill... Read more...
Fortnite has been busy tweaking the game to make it more social than competitive in some modes. One of the social things that Fortnite has been doing is hosting concerts that fans can come and listen to. These concerts have been a success for Epic Games so far. A surprise DJ Diplo concert happened last night. Last week Fortnite hosted a Travis Scott concert called Astronomical that saw the game break participant records with as many as 27.7 million unique players participating live across the five events for the Travis Scott concert. Fortnite hosted another concert that took place on the Fortnite Party Royale Main Stage last night and had a performance by DJ Diplo as the lead for the Major Lazer... Read more...

Here is what you need to know about part one of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 Location Domination challenges. Players will receive 10,000 XP for completing the first tier of a challenge, 25,000 XP for the second tier, and 55,000 XP for the third and final tier. The... Read more...
Fortnite has increasingly offered events that don't involve shooting and looting, but rather focus on hanging out and enjoying the company of others. Most recently, the game featured a concert from Travis Scott that saw the game's highest number of concurrent users to date. Data miners have been hard at work and have uncovered hints of a new map that goes along with the new limited-time mode called Party Royale. The new map reconfigures the island, and the limited-time Party Royale mode appears to be focused more on simply having fun than padding your body count. The map is thought to be called Papaya, according to data miner Lucas7yoshi. The description of the mode reads, "Welcome to the Party!... Read more...

One of the new challenges has players searching for five golden pipe wrenches that are scattered around the island and can be challenging to find if you don't know where to look. Another wrench is in front of the pipe statue in grid B6. A third golden pipe wrench can be found at the Pipeman landmark in grid D8. In grid H2, a golden pipe wrench is outside of Steamy Stacks. Fortnite gamers can obtain a free, exclusive loading screen this week by taking part in a new Astronomical Challenge. Like most Fortnite challenges, these are only available for a limited time, and one of the challenges is to dance for 10 seconds on the dance floor at The Yacht or Apres Ski. This particular challenge is easy to complete, as long as you know where to find the dance floors. The easiest one to find is at the yacht and has been in the same place since the beginning of Season 2. This is the same yacht that Deadpool has taken over since week 7. Once at the yacht, there are three floors, and the dance floor is in the middle deck where the Midas statue is located. The image below shows... Read more...
Epic and Google have long aired their dirty laundry in a public feud over how much money the latter takes in profits from games in the Google Play Store. Now, Epic Games has finally caved and is putting Fortnite on the Google Play Store, but it's not at all happy about it. When Fortnite for Android launched, Epic sidestepped the Play Store and made the game downloadable directly from the Epic website, cutting off a sustainable revenue stream for Google. The game may be landing on the Play Store, but Epic says that it will still be available from Fortnite.com moving forward. Now that Fortnite is available on the Play Store, most users will download it there because of the convenience. Google makes... Read more...
We all love free games here at HotHardware, and earlier this week we showed you how to get Assassin's Creed 2 and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection at no cost. Today, The Epic Games Store has made available two games that you can download for free. Those games are Just Cause 4 ad Wheels of Aurelia. The first game really needs no introduction, but for those that aren't "in the know", Just Cause 4 first launched back in 2018. As with other entries in the franchise, Just Cause 4 features a wide range of vehicles that you can use along with a whole arsenal of cool weapons... Read more...
We reported earlier today that Epic Games will be extending Season 2 Chapter 2 through early June, which wasn't originally planned. With that in mind, the developers have a few more skins that they are planning to squeeze out before Season 3 is finally upon us. If you've been following the Fortnite scene recently, then you know that the Deadpool skin was finally unlocked nearly two weeks ago. The "Merc with a mouth" entered the fray with dual pistols blazing and katana blades for slicing up opponents (and chimichangas).  Now we're learning that Deadpool will soon be joined by some of his Marvel-backed crew thanks to skins that leaked with the v12.40 update. v12.40 skins/backblings.... Epic Games announced it is delaying the release of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 by a little over a month, though the reason is not entirely clear. The first thing that comes to mind is the Coronavirus pandemic, and perhaps it is just not feasible to polish up the update in time for its original April 30 release. Whatever the cause, the new release date is June 4. That means Chapter 2 Season 2 is getting a bit of an extension. While some Fortnite players might be disappointed with the delay of the upcoming Season update, Epic Games says "there's lot of content coming in the current Seasons," with multiple game updates on the horizon "that will deliver fresh gameplay, new Challenges, bonus XP, and...
