It has been a crazy week for Epic Games, to say the least. Fortnite was removed from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store after Epic Games introduced a new mobile payment system. Epic Games has created a different way to play Fortnite on Android devices, and the game is still available through NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW. Here is how you can access Fortnite on your Android device.  Android users will first need to go to this link and scan the QR code with their device. Players will then be redirected to a website where they can download the game. Here are the steps players will need to take once they have been redirected: Click on “Get it on the Epic Games App.”... Both Apple and Google have been catching flak from various entities over policies the companies have instituted in their respective app stores. Many developers that have apps listed in Apple's App Store or Google Play have voiced concern over the significant commissions that must be paid. Apple takes between 15% and 30%, for example, for most app subscriptions and payments made inside apps. After a strategic move that saw Epic file suit against Apple this past week, Facebook has now come out and taken a firm stance against Apple as well. Facebook announced this week that Apple had declined a request to waive a 30% commission fee for a new app feature it's readying to help small businesses. The... Read more...
Epic Games is having a a rather eventful week. It recently launched an update for the iPhone and Android versions of its incredibly popular game, Fortnite, which resulted in the game getting booted from the Apple App Store and Google Play. The update that caused the axe to drop on Fortnite enabled a feature allowing users to pay Epic directly for in-app purchases instead of paying through the conventional systems on both platforms. Epic has filed suit against Google alleging violations of the Sherman Act, claiming that Google has an unlawful monopoly and is engaging in anti-competitive restraints in two markets. The two markets named in the lawsuit are for distributing mobile apps to Android... Read more...
Epic Games and Apple are about to legally duke it out. Epic Games just filed a lawsuit against Apple that claims that Apple’s App Store is anti-competitive. The lawsuit was quickly filed after Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store earlier today. Epic Games overall argues that Apple’s policies prevent innovation and directly harm consumers and developers. They state that Apple “...has become what it once railed against: the behemoth seeking to control markets, block competition, and stifle innovation.” Epic Games today introduced “Epic Direct Payment.” Mobile users who purchase V-Bucks or other items through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store would... Updated 8/13/2020 @ 3:40pm Well, that escalated quickly. Apple has gone nuclear, kicking Fortnite out of the App Store after Epic Games decided to circumvent fees with its own payment system. We can't say that we didn't see this coming, but Apple is putting its foot own in a commanding way given that Fortnite is one of the biggest games on the planet. Here's Apple's statement in full on its decision: Today, Epic Games took the unfortunate step of violating the App Store guidelines that are applied equally to every developer and designed to keep the store safe for our users. As a result their Fortnite app has been removed from the store. Epic enabled a feature in its app which was not reviewed... Read more...
Similar to when Civilization VI and GTA V were free, the Epic Store continues to be a gift horse with A Total War Saga: Troy. Creative Assembly has graciously offered up this Epic Store exclusive for free today only, so if you act fast and manage to pick up the game, it is yours to keep forever. Epic Games seems to be the driving force behind all these free games, as Tim Heaton, Chief Studios Officer at SEGA states, “Thanks to Epic, we're able to offer a Total War title for free on its launch day. It's a hugely exciting thing for us to be able to do for our players.” If you aren’t a fan of Epic Games, you can wait a year to pick up the game on Steam but getting it for free by... Read more...
The Epic Games Store has kicked off its Summer Sale event with deep discounts on a variety of games, including "scorching offers" of up to 85 percent off various titles and add-on content. Then starting on July 30, you can claim three more games for free, including 20XX, Barony, and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP. Epic Games has rolled out its v13.30 patch for Fortnite and with it comes a bunch of bug fixes, some changes to the flooded map, and new Summer Splash limited time modes (LTMs). It is not the biggest patch in the world, but there are some notable additions and issue resolutions. For example, Epic Games fixed an issue that was preventing players from respawning or spectating if the game started at the same time as they were respawning. The developer also squashed a bug that was causing dropped items to remain in Featured islands after players returned to the Hub and then came back in, and fixed another issue where the storm FX permanently remained on-screen when the storm circle finished outside... We are now into the fifth week of Aquaman challenges in Fortnite, the hugely popular battle royale that is a veritable cash cow for Epic Games. Each week's challenge has offered players a chance to claim a themed award, like the Supreme Shell Back Bling from last week. For this latest challenge, if completed, you can claim Aquaman's trusty Trident and make it your pickaxe. It is a relatively simple challenge in the grand scheme things—you just need to locate the Trident at Coral Cove. However, it can be in one of three different specific places. They are relatively near each other, though, so there is not too much treasure hunting involved. So, where exactly do you need to go in order to... Read more...
If you are looking for something to keep you busy this weekend (and beyond), head over to the Epic Games Store and nab yourself a copy of Torchlight II by Runic Games. It is the latest free title, and normally sells for $19.99. While it is a bit dated at this point, the action role-playing dungeon crawler is still a fun game, particularly if you are into the Diablo-style of gameplay. Not by coincidence, Runic Games was co-founded by Max Schaefer and Erich Schaefer, the same team who co-founded Blizzard North, creators of Diablo. Unfortunately, Runic Games was shuttered in 2017 (Max had left the studio in 2016), though both Torchlight and Torchlight II remain available and playable, the latter... Read more...
It's pretty incredible what today's smartphones can do, even if we mostly use them to upload lunch and dinner photos to Facebook. They can do so much more, though. For example, Epic Games just released a Live Link Face app for iOS that lets developers capture and stream high quality facial animation in real time from iPhone and iPad devices. This data can be imported onto characters in Unreal Engine 4.25. The actual tracking leverages Apple's ARKit and an iOS device's TrueDepth front-facing camera. "Designed to excel on both professional capture stages with multiple actors in full motion capture suits as well as at a single artist’s desk, the app delivers expressive and emotive facial performances... For most PC gamers, the place they prefer to get their video games is Steam. When the Epic Games Store first opened, many PC gamers were upset that Epic landed some high-profile exclusive titles forcing them to have games across more than one digital service. Feelings towards the Epic Games Store have changed for many, with the store offering some very cool games at no cost since it opened. Today, the latest Epic Games Store free games for July have been announced. The first of the three free games is Killing Floor 2. Many will be familiar with the game, but for those who aren't, we will run down the premise of the game. Killing Floor 2 sees players in continental Europe after it's overrun by... Read more...
It appears that everyone wants a piece of Epic Games. Whether its competing developers that want a piece of the battle royale market that Fortnite dominates, or companies that want to invest into the gaming behemoth that Epic Games has become over the past two decades. Sony is looking to slot into the latter category with a $250 million minority investment into Epic Games. In a joint press release, the two companies said that the investment "reinforces the shared mission to advance the state of the art in technology, entertainment, and socially-connected online services." The investment shouldn't be too surprising, given that Epic Games chose Sony -- rather than Microsoft -- to showcase... Read more...
Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 3 is just now kicking off, and Epic Games is already enticing gamers with a sweet new Captain America skin (which can be yours for 2000 V-Bucks or $20). But one other in-game item that is causing a lot of ruckus right now is the Golden Mushroom. Unfortunately for battle royale gamers that want to jump right and find this delicious delicacy, it is a super rare item with a spawn rate of just 0.0001 percent. We don't like those odds, but the payoff is immense if you do happen to find one. According to Fortnite leaker and data-miner HYPEX, consuming a Golden Mushroom will give you 100 shield. In addition, you can stack three of them in a single... Read more...
Captain America is the latest in a growing line of comic book superheros to burst into Fortnite, the hugely popular free-to-play game that has made developer/publisher Epic Games a boat load of money through similar tie-ins to pop culture. Cap arrives with his iconic shield, not Thor's Hammer this time, and you can actually use his shield in-game, if you buy the skin of course. You can display the proto-adamantium shield on your back or wield it as a Pickaxe. When you run with a weapon or item in your hand, like a gun, the shield serves as Captain America's back bling. But when you're empty handed, it transfers over to the superhero's right hand/arm. Over on YouTube, King Mystic offers up a pretty... Read more...
Fortnite Season 3 kicked off not long ago with a new island map that is flooded as the result of the events happening at the end of Chapter 2, Season 2. Data miners have found suggestions that new consumables are coming to the game in the form of different types of Flopper fish that can be caught using the fishing rod. Floppers were introduced in patch 11.0 last year. With much of the island flooded at the beginning of Season 3, focusing on the Flopper and fishing as a mechanic for capturing consumables in the game makes a lot of sense. Several themed Flopper types will be coming to the game according to data discovered, including the Thermal Flopper, Shield Flopper, Jelly Flopper, Hop Flopper,... Read more...

The available films include Inception, Batman Begins, and The Prestige. Anyone wanting to enjoy movie night in the United States will be able to watch Inception. The movie will show three times on Friday, June 26, starting at 6 AM MDT with other showings at 6 PM and 9:55 PM. Epic Games is promising "hot new surprise" to be found in Fortnite's newly unleashed Chapter 2 Season 3, though players will have plenty of opportunities to cool off in what has essentially become a giant water park. The island's been flooded, though landlubbers need not worry, there are plenty of dry spots to be found as well. For most, however, water is simply the new normal in Fortnite, at least for the current season. "Survive more than just the storm in the aftermath of its revenge. As the island adapts to its flooded way of life, stay afloat and take on new challenges," Epic Games says. Getting to the wet and wild fun that awaits was not without a bit of controversy. As has become customary,... Read more...
Following a series of delays, Fortnite's doomsday event called The Device finally took place yesterday, effectively putting an end to Chapter 2 Season 2. The event left many gamers miffed. Not because they did not want Season 2 to conclude—they are angry because Epic Games did not have the server capacity to host everyone who wanted to log in and witness the hoopla. These season-ending events draw large crowds. Fortnite is already a popular game, but things kick up a notch at the conclusion of each season, because something big and potentially game-changing typically occurs. Players understandably want to witness these sort of things. And many of them did yesterday—so many, in fact,... Read more...
Doomsday is coming to Fortnite, just not as originally scheduled. Following a series of delays, the most recent of which was in response to Black Lives Matter protests, Fortnite current Season 2 Chapter 3 is now only days away from happening. Before the new Chapter kicks off, however, a live event called The Device will commence later today. "The team is eager to move Fortnite forward, but we need to balance the Season 3 launch with time for the team to focus on themselves, their families, and their communities," Epic Games announced earlier this month. Today's live The Device event is a doomsday scenario and it will take place at precisely 2:00 pm ET (11:00 am PT), according to a countdown timer... Read more...
One thing you can count on in Fortnite is things are always going to change at some point. Sometimes the changes are minor, other times they alter the landscape in dramatic ways. With that said, the developers seem to be hinting that Fortnite Season 2 Chapter 3 will see the map hit by a massive flood, so get ready to swim. This looks to be a complete flood with parts of the map going underwater. In the lead up to what appears to be an inevitable event, Fortnite players have spotted curious puddles appearing in different areas of the map. Several players have posted screenshots of the puddles on Twitter and Reddit, though they are not brand new. ⚜️#News⚜️ 🇮🇹 In giro per la mappa stanno apparendo... Read more...
