If your New Year's resolution was to spend less money on video games, we have bad news. While the holiday sales have mostly come to an end, Epic Games is still offering discounts on several titles through the Epic Games Store during its Encore Week Sale, which kicked off on January 1 and runs through January 7 (11:00 am EST / 8:00 am PST). As an added bonus, you can still use any coupons you might have left over from the Holiday Sale. For example, there is an $10 off Epic Coupon (valid until May 1, 2020) that is good on your first purchase. If you are able to take advantage of that coupon, you could score Red Dead Redemption 2 for just $37.99, its lowest price ever. I verified that this still... Read more...
Rockstar Games did PC gamers a solid last month by porting over Red Dead Redemption 2, which had been sitting pretty on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles for over a year. It's even prettier on the PC with the coats of polish the developer added. Though it's only been available on PC a short while, it's already deeply discounted. As other digital distribution platforms have done, Epic Games has kicked off its "Holiday Sale 2019" with discounts on a bunch of games. Red Dead Redemption 2 stands out because it's a new title (to PC), and is marked down 20 percent to $47.99. However, it gets even better—Epic Games is offering a $10 off coupon on your first purchase during the Holiday Sale.... Read more...
Say what you will about the Epic Games Store—it is a divisive topic in the gaming community, for sure—one thing we can't complain about is the quality of some of the free games. The latest offering drives this point home. In celebration of 80 years of Batman's first appearance 80 years ago (in Detective Comics issue 27), Epic Games is giving away six games featuring the caped crusader. The caveat is that you have to register with Epic Games and grab the six titles through the Epic Games Store. Some gamers are upset over the exclusivity agreements Epic Games has been able to hammer out with developers and publishers, but for those who are indifferent (or are big fans of the storefront),... The launch of Borderlands 3 has gone well for Gearbox and player engagement is the highest that the franchise has ever seen. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has said on Twitter that on launch day Borderlands 3 had concurrent players that were about two times higher than Borderlands 2 ever saw. Concurrent peak players for the game via the Epic Game Store is estimated to be around 248,000 players. Steamcharts says that Borderlands 2 peaked at 123,496 players at its launch with a similar tracking service called SteamDB saying 124,678 players were playing at its peak. Those figures are roughly half what estimates peg for Borderlands 3. Pitchford offered no insight into how the game was doing on consoles.... Read more...
Yesterday, we brought you news that Valve's Steam Summer Sale is scheduled to kick off on June 25th according to leaked information. The upstart Epic Games Store is taking more than a few cues from Valve in how it operates its own storefront, and today has announced its first "epic" sales on digital games. Epic is labeling the promotion the "Mega Sale" and it is offering games at up to 75 percent off their regular price. In addition, the Mega Sale ensures that every game priced $14.99 or above is being discount by $10. So, if a regularly priced title was previously available for $14.99, you'll pay just $4.99 today. According to Epic, the $10 off promotion only applies... Read more...
Epic Games has been catching a lot of heat lately for paying to make games exclusive to its Steam alternative called the Epic Games Store. Gamers are upset because many PC gamers like that Steam offers all the games they want in one place with one program to maintain. Epic Games has issued a challenge to Steam that promised to stop pursuing exclusives for the Epic Games Store if Steam would give developers a larger cut of the profits for their games. Now, Epic Games has announced that Psyonix is joining the family. Psyonix is the company behind the popular game Rocket League. Psyonix says that the move will be a positive one for Rocket League and the fan community. In the short term, nothing... Read more...
Gamers of a certain age will remember a time when the name Valve conjured visions of crowbars and scientists. These days Valve is more about the Steam store, the place where gamers flock to buy all their games digitally and store them in one place. On the gamer side of things, the Steam store is a great way to keep games in one place forever without having to deal with keeping up with discs and install codes. On the developer side, the Steam store is loathed because of the cut to profits demanded for selling the game on the store. Former Valve employee Richard Geldreich has commented on developers moving to the new and competing Epic Games Store. Geldreich says that "Steam was killing PC gaming"... Read more...
Borderlands fans were excited when the latest game in the franchise, Borderlands 3, was announced just a few days ago. What some fans aren't so excited about is that the game is rumored to be an Epic Games Store exclusive. Several high profile game publishers are trying to escape the Steam tax that Valve imposes and Fortnite was the first major game to skip the Steam store in favor of the Epic Games Store. Yesterday the Borderlands official Twitter account reportedly posted that said "Mayhem is coming September 13" and later deleted the tweet. Considering yesterday was April Fool's we should all have the salt handy. Other reports claim that a 6-second Borderlands 3 Twiter video ad was floating... Read more...
When Epic Games was gearing up to launch Fornite for PC gamers, it decided to bypass the popular Steam store to get around the cut of profits Valve demands. Instead, Epic Games created its own store to peddle Fortnite and was able to keep all the profits for itself. The Epic Games Store is also signing up other developers and publishers who want to sell their games online without having to pay the Steam tax. Steam has a policy that allows gamers to get a refund on games under certain conditions. Epic Games has announced a new revised refund policy for its store, something it needed to compete on par with Steam. The refund policy will give unlimited returns to buyers within 14-days of the purchase... Read more...
