NVIDIA this week hopped on Twitter to tease an upcoming mobile GPU launch, saying simply, "They're coming," along with a panned shot of a laptop keyboard. Donning our detective caps, we can reasonably determine NVIDIA is referring to mobile Turing GPUs that lack real-time ray tracing and Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). In other words, mobile GTX parts based on the company's latest GPU architecture. For one, there already exist laptops based on NVIDA's GeForce RTX GPUs, from the likes of Alienware, ASUS, MSI, Razer, and others. That includes Max-Q Design variants, like the Razer Blade 15 with a GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q. So barring a complete surprise from NVIDIA, we are pretty sure what the... Read more...
Acer has rolled out a new line of notebooks, monitors, and desktops that it is aiming at content creators called ConceptD. The entire line consists of premium, high-end devices positioned for those wanting style and performance. The coolest of the products is no doubt the ConceptD 9 notebook. The machine has a form factor that allows the monitor to swivel in the lid of the notebook using a CNC-machined Ezel Aero Hinge. The display is a 17.3-inch Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) unit, and it can flip, extend, or recline for multiple use modes in the fancy hinge. Acer notes that the display is PANTONE Validated and covers 100% of the Adobe RGB color gamut with Delta E <1 color accuracy. The machine includes... Read more...
Acer is ready to take PC gaming to the next level with a brand-new entry into its high-end Helios family of laptops. The company today introduced the Helios 700, which is sure to turn heads due to its trick keyboard. Rather than stay stationary like just about every other laptop on the market, the Helios 700’s HyperDrift keyboard actually slides out towards you. This allows the Precision Touchpad and palm rest to sit at a more ergonomic angle. Acer says that by moving the keyboard closer towards you, the user is able to keep a comfortable distance away from the 17-inch display. The sliding keyboard also has an added benefit of improving airflow for a cooling system that already incorporates... Read more...
NVIDIA has rather quickly fully fleshed out its family of Turing-based graphics cards. The company started off with the high-end, ray tracing-enabled GeForce RTX 2070, RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti in Fall 2018, then hit up the mainstream market with the GeForce RTX 2060 at CES 2019. Over the past few months, the company has expanded at the lower-end of the spectrum with the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1660. Now, NVIDIA is apparently ready to spread some GTX Turing lovin’ to gaming laptops with GeForce GTX 1660 Ti and GeForce GTX 1650 Mobility GPUs. This latest confirmation comes to us via VideoCardz, which managed to capture a slide presentation from Acer that details two upcoming... Read more...
Rivet Networks is adding another "world's first" trophy to its showcase with the launch of the Killer E3000. The company claims that this is the first Ethernet controller capable of delivering 2.5 Gbps data speeds for PCs. The Killer E3000 is primarily aimed at enthusiasts, which is why you will see it installed in monster gaming rigs like the Alienware Area-51m that was announced this week at CES. With that being said, Rivet Networks says that the 2.5 Gbps controller will be available in desktop and laptop systems along with motherboards from top component makers. The Killer E3000 takes advantage of Killer Advanced Stream Detect technology, which will automatically identify and prioritize... Read more...
Acer announced that its upcoming Predator Triton 500 and Predator Triton 900 gaming laptops will come equipped with NVIDIA's GeForce RTX graphics processors. In addition to the high-end hardware, these systems both have special features that help them to stand out from the competition. We got our first look at the Acer Predator Triton 900 last year, which features a unique convertible design. The notebook's 17.3" 4K IPS display uses a specialized CNC-machined Ezel Aero hinge that connects to the center of the display on its left and right sides. The display can be set just like a normal PC, or it can be rotated and set into tablet mode. "We are pushing the envelope on what a gaming notebook can... Read more...
In an attempt to get the jump on the competition, Acer today announced two new lightweight consumer oriented laptops. The more interesting of these two systems is Acer's new Chromebook 315, which the company said is the first to feature an A-Series AMD processor with Radeon graphics. Acer's Chromebook 315 will be available with either an AMD A4-9120C or a more powerful AMD A6-9220C. These new CPUs are both based on AMD's 8th generation Excavator microarchitecture. These processors are largely similar to their A4-9120 and A6-9220 counterparts, but feature a TDP of 6 watts instead of 15 watts along with tweaked CPU and GPU speeds. The Chromebook 315 will ship with either a 1366x768 or 1080p 15.6"... Read more...
When Acer debuted its Predator Helios 300 laptop line a little over a year ago, it quickly garnered praise for delivering an unexpected level of gaming performance for the price. At the time, the Predator Helios 300 came equipped with an assortment of hardware that could typically be found only on more expensive laptops. As such, we've had multiple requests to get our hands on one of the newer models and give it a full review. Well, for those who asked (and those who didn't), that's exactly what we're doing here. This past summer, Acer refreshed its Predator Helios 300 with an upgraded display supporting a 144Hz refresh rate, Intel 8th generation Core processor options, and faster storage. It... Read more...
There's a wide range of ultra-premium laptops on the market at the moment. However, many of them are simply out of reach for the average mainstream consumer due to budget constraints. There are more budget friendly options though, such as the Acer Swift 3 we are looking at today. The base model in the series starts at a thrifty $650 USD, and that gets you an Intel 8th Gen Core i5-8250U processor, a 14-inch FHD display, and a 256GB SSD. Along with that premium hardware, the exterior also features a sleek brushed aluminum chassis and its display sports relatively thin bezels.  The model we were sent to evaluate, however, doesn't sit at the top of the Swift 3 stack. Although, it does have some... Read more...
We love high performance gaming monitors here at HotHardware, so we're always on the looking for new entries from popular player in this space. Both monitors feature a WQHD (2560 x 1440) resolution, and rock 144Hz VA panels with a 1ms response time (it should be noted that 144Hz refresh rates are supported with both DisplayPort and HDMI). Both support HDR10, but we're only looking at maximum brightness of 250 and 300 cd/m2 respectively for the XZ271U and... Read more...

It was several months ago when AMD confirmed plans to introduce quad-core CPUs to its second-generation Ryzen family, and one particular SKU that has shown up in numerous leaks since then is the Ryzen 5 2500X. That same processor has made yet another appearance, this time as the foundation for a new Acer Nitro gaming desktop. Acer's new Nitro N50-100 with a Ryzen 5 2500X inside shows up on a couple of its foreign websites, including a product listing on its German portal and a sales page in its web store in Slovakia. The asking price is 934.5 euros, which is around $1,105 in US currency. In addition to having a Ryzen 5 2500X, the Nitro N50-100 sports 8GB of DDR4-2666 RAM and a Radeon RX 580 (4GB)... Read more...

Acer is rolling out a new 4K Ultra HD monitor for graphics designers and other professionals who need pinpoint color accuracy and lots of brightness for their projects. They will find both in the company's new ProDesigner BM270, a 27-inch monitor with a 3840x2160 resolution at 60Hz, and an eye-searing 1,000 nits brightness rating to deliver high dynamic range (HDR) content. This is not the first HDR monitor to boast a 1,000 nits brightness rating, though such animals are comparatively rare in the wild—the vast majority of HDR displays top out in the 400-450 nits range. In addition to the impressive brightness, Acer claims the ProDesigner BM270 is pre-tuned and tested to ensure Delta E<1... Read more...
