You may be under the impression that in order to upgrade to a really big gaming monitor, a really big budget is a prerequisite. While true in some instance, that is not always the case. There are some reasonably-priced options available, and even better, Amazon just dropped one of them to an all-time low price with a 25% discount over MSRP.
Acer Nitro 49 Ultrawide Gaming Monitor Is 25% Off
The model in question is the
Acer Nitro 49, and it's on sale for
$599.99 at Amazon (25% off, save $200). Even at full price, this is one of the more affordable entries into the realm of 49-inch display, and even more so now that it is $200 off the MSRP.
Acer's Nitro 49 is built around a 49-inch curved (1000R) VA panel with a 5120x1440 resolution (32:9 aspect ratio), which is like having dual 1440p monitors but without the distracting bezels in between. It also features a fast 240Hz refresh rate and 3ms gray-to-gray (GtG) response time, and is an AMD FreeSync display.
There are some tradeoffs to hits this price point. It's not an OLED or mini LED display and it doesn't support HDR visuals. But otherwise, it's a solid bargain.
Samsung 49-Inch Odyssey G93SC QD-OLED Is 30% Off
Going in the other pricing direction, if you have a bigger budget to play around with and want to make the leap to a big QD-OLED display, then check out the
Samsung 49-Inch Odyssey (G93SC) that's on sale for
$899.99 (30% off, save save $388.89).
It's a few hundred dollars more, but if you can swing it, that's a reasonable up-charge to get into QD-OLED territory (especially coming from VA).
This is another curved monitor with a 5120x1440 resolution and 240Hz refresh rate, but in addition to the QD-OLED upgrade, it sports some other features not found on the Acer Nitro 49 above. Namely, it's a FreeSync Premium Pro display, it's certified as G-SYNC Compatible, and it also features VESA's DisplayHDR True Black 400 badge.
Connectivity is slightly better too, with Samsung's model boasting HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 inputs, as well as three USB ports. In contrast, the Acer Nitro 49 sports two HDMI 2.0 (two of them) in addition to DisplayPort 1.4, and no USB ports.
