Acer is getting ready to release a gaming handheld in the United States for the first time. Announced last May, the company's Predator Atlas 8 handheld packs some impressive specs, including Intel Arc G-Series silicon based on Panther Lake, but up until now it was a mystery how much the handheld would cost or when it would release to retail. Acer just shared both details.

In an email, Acer confirmed that its Predator Atlas 8 will launch exclusively at Best Buy on November 1, 2026, giving shoppers plenty of time to secure one ahead of Christmas. That's assuming it remains in stock. According to Acer, preorders actually went live last week and then sold out.

Whether it sells out again remains to be seen. At least initially, Best Buy will only carry a higher-end variant kitted with an Arc G3 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, and a 512GB PCIe 4.0 solid state drive (SSD).

Unless plans have changed since May, Acer will also offer the Predator Atlas 8 with a standard Arc G3 chip. There could potentially be other configurations too, as Acer's own product page lists the handheld as having "up to 1TB" of storage and "up to 32GB" of RAM.

For now, there is just one Predator Atlas 8 SKU listed at Best Buy and it costs $1,299.99. Outside of the Arc G3 Extreme chip, 24GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage, the Predator Atlas 8 sports an 8-inch WUXGA (1920x1200) IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 500 nits of brightness, dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 wireless connectivity, a microSD card slot, and Windows 11 Home.

The handheld also features Hall Effect analog triggers with adjustable trigger stops, full-size TMR joysticks to combat stick drift, rear macro buttons, and dual 2W speakers.

While not an inexpensive handheld, it does appear to be the least expensive model built around an Arc G3 Extreme. It's not an especially crowded field, but of the models we could find listed for sale, the Predator Atlas 8 undercuts MSI's Claw 8 EX AI+ with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage ($1,799.99 at Best Buy) and the OneXPlayer 3 with 24GB of RAM and 512GB of storage (on sale for $1,549 at OneXPlayer's online store, down from $1,699).
