Ever since playing Joust on his family's Atari 800XL 8-bit computer as a youth, Zak has been hooked on PC and console games. His passion for gaming as a kid led to an interest in PCs as a teenager, which ended up with him founding his own PC repair shop in the year 2000. Decades later, he's still building, still gaming, and still arguing on the internet with any opinion anyone has. A former writer of news and reviews for The Tech Report, Zak is a modern-day Renaissance man who may not be an expert on anything, but knows just a little about nearly everything.

Raster graphics rendering at regular resolutions 8-megapixels-and-below is basically a solved problem with modern GPUs. Despite all the hullaballoo surrounding the search for "single-card 4K," you don't even need a GeForce RTX 3080 or... Read more...
A pile of outlets have run a lot of benchmarks on the Steam Deck (we haven't gotten one yet). However, one of the big question marks surrounding the Steam Deck's gaming performance has been the effect, whether good or bad, of its choice of... Read more...
Valve's Steam Deck is shockingly inexpensive for what it is, but it's still at least $400 of portable computer you'd probably prefer not to lose. There are various means of accomplishing this, but the less mindful among us may desire some... Read more...
Expectations for 2022 are already high in the hardware world. We're expecting to see new CPUs and GPUs from all three of the biggest players in the PC market: Intel, NVIDIA, and of course AMD. Before that happens, though, we might just see... Read more...

Once upon a time, it was thought desktop Arc Alchemist cards would be out in January, but January came and went without a peep. Folks latched onto rumors that they'd be here in March, but then Intel instead promised cards for Q2 this year... Read more...
One of the greatest new features that you'll find in a lot of games is a photo mode. These modes usually let you pause the game, and then tilt, pan, swivel, and zoom the camera freely for taking epic screenshots. The concept isn't new;... Read more...
Did you imagine when Grand Theft Auto V came out for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2013, that we'd be seeing a fresh retail re-release of it nine years later? Much like The Elder Scrolls Part V: Skyrim—which hails from the same era—GTA... Read more...

Unlike a true gaming "console" handheld such as the Nintendo Switch, Valve's Steam Deck is essentially a portable PC more akin to the Aya Neo or various GPD devices. This is great from a certain perspective; it means that when things go... Read more...
Way back at the beginning of last month, Intel finalized the 3.0 version of the ATX12V specification. This revision, as you'd expect from a full-number version, brings significant changes to standard PC power supplies going forward, and... Read more...
