Yesterday, we brought you news of a rear camera pod redesign for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 12 Pro family. In addition to the triple cameras that were introduced with the iPhone 11 Pro family, there's also a new LiDAR sensor and a centrally-mounted LED flash for a more balanced appearance. Today, we're getting a glimpse at the front of the smartphone for the first time. The first thing that stands out is that the display notch surrounding the earpiece speaker and Face ID hardware is much smaller this time around. The notch was one of the defining features of the iPhone X when it debuted in 2017, and was quickly copied by Android manufacturers. However, Android OEMs then swiftly pivoted... Read more...
An alleged new detail of the coming iPhone 12 Pro leaked out via Twitter this weekend. The leak consisted of a basic line-drawing of what is claimed to be the backside of an iPhone 12 Pro. The only notable thing on the back of the leaked image is a new camera array that reportedly shows the inclusion of a LiDAR sensor on the iPhone for the first time. Adding a LiDAR sensor to the iPhone would be a first, but it wouldn't be the first time Apple used a LiDAR sensor on one of its devices. The new iPad Pro models that launched last month have integrated LiDAR sensors (pictured above). In addition to having the LiDAR sensor, the leaked image also shows three camera sensors, including a wide-angle,... Read more...
Apple will have new iPhone models to launch this fall that are expected to be part of the iPhone 12 family. New details have surfaced about the iPhone 12 and its design. The latest rumor claims that the iPhone 12 line could have the same exterior design as the iPhone 11, but with vastly superior camera technology.  The new design rumor is different than reports from noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who perviously said that the iPhone 12 will have a different and boxy design similar to that of the iPhone 4. The new rumor also claims that the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will have a height between that of the iPhone SE and the iPhone 8. The rumor claims that the 6.1-inch version will fall between the... The new year has just begun, which means that rumors concerning the next-generation iPhone are already kicking into high gear. The latest news coming from Apple's supply chain revolves around the iPhone's Face ID software and the inclusion of additional time-of-flight sensors. On the Face ID front, a report from CNBC claims that the hardware is being "refreshed" which means that Apple is likely using an upgraded TrueDepth camera sensor with faster response times. Face ID has already gotten dramatically faster since it was first introduced on the iPhone X, so we'd be eager to see how much quicker device unlocking can get with the iPhone 12. There's also the possibility that Face ID will... Read more...
When Apple releases its iPhone 12 series next year, there is a chance the next-generation phones could come with a significant bump in battery life. The same goes for Samsung's Galaxy S11 family. That's because both Apple and Samsung are sourcing smaller battery protection modules from the same company, ITM Semiconductor, with smaller circuitry to potentially pave the wave for bigger capacity batteries. For reference, Apple claims "all-day battery" life on its iPhone 11, which equates to up to 17 hours of video playback (or 10 hours of streamed video), and up to 65 hours of audio playback (with the ability to generate a 50 percent charge in 30 minutes via fast-charge). Likewise, Samsung claims... Read more...
