Whether or not the Nintendo Switch goes down in history as a successful console launch or a flop is predicated on how interested gamers are in gaming on the go. As we learned, the Nintendo Switch's defining characteristic is that it can be uprooted from the living room and act as a mobile console. But in making that pitch, Nintendo was curiously silent about the touchscreen display. That's okay because additional information about the Nintendo Switch's screen since its official unveiling last week is starting to leak to the web. Assuming the latest leaks are correct—and they come from sources who apparently coughed up accurate details about the Nintendo Switch's overall design and detachable... Read more...
For whatever reason, Rockstar Games never seems to prioritize the PC. We see it with every Grand Theft Auto release—first it releases to consoles, then sometime way later it finally moseys on over to PC where a still eager audience awaits. But with Red Dead Redemption 2, a hotly anticipated sequel Rockstar recently announced, the publisher only confirmed support for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Does that mean there will never be a PC port? Not so fast. Though Rockstar didn't say anything about a PC version arriving at a later did, it also didn't specifically say there wouldn't be a PC port. That is an important distinction and if you ask Wedbush Security analyst Michael Pachter for his thoughts... Read more...

On October 11, Gear of War 4 landed with boots on the ground for Microsoft Windows and the Xbox One console. This fifth entry in the series marks the first time a Gears title has launched simultaneously on both the PC and Xbox. That means if you picked the title up on PC you can also access it on Xbox One for no additional charge. At long last, Bethesda is bringing mod support for Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition to PlayStation 4 players after working out an arrangement with Sony. That was the plan all along, of course, with Bethesda originally intending to bring modding to the PS4 back in June. But then Sony set up a roadblock by refusing to approve mods as Bethesda wanted to implement them. "Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition," Bethesda stated a month ago. "Like you, we are disappointed by Sony's decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount... Read more...
The wait for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is down to about a month, though in the meantime, the game's retail packaging for the PlayStation 4 gives us something interesting to talk about. Apparently the game, which comes with a digital code to download a remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, will consume 130GB of storage space if installing the entire kit-and-caboodle. A picture of the box art shows the storage requirement, which is for both titles combined. It's not entirely clear how much space each individual takes up (we'll do some math in a moment), just that the two combined will eat up 130GB of storage. That requirement's been gaining a lot of buzz on the Internet, though... Read more...
It's been known since E3 that Croteam and Devolver Digital were working on a version of Serious Sam for virtualreality, but at the time there wasn't a specific release date. Now there is—Croteam announced that Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope is headed to Steam Early Access on October 17 for $40. The plan is to keep it there for around six months before releasing the full version. You'll need an HTC Vive headset to play the title, along with hand controllers. Other system requirements include an Intel Core i5-4590 processor or equivalent, AMD Radeon R9 290 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 graphics card, 6GB of RAM, and 10GB of storage space. In Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope you play as Sam "Serious" Stone.... Read more...
Forget about an asteroid plowing into our planet or a plague wiping out the human species. Nope, none of that will be our demise. Nature doesn't need to intervene, as it did with dinosaurs, because it seems we're intent on passing the torch to machines, making ourselves obsolete in the process. Oh, it starts innocently enough—putting automated contraptions on assembly lines and in warehouses, and creating artificially intelligent applications. But do we have to bully our increasingly capable creations, and then teach them to play games like Doom? Apparently so. Let's talk about the latter for a moment. Guillaume Lample and Devendra Singh Chaplot, a couple of programmers at Carnegie Melon, used... Read more...
Sony's prepping for a busy holiday shopping season with its PlayStation 4 Pro, an upgraded version of its PlayStation 4 released in 2013. The PS4 Pro has a 30 percent faster processor along with an onboard GPU that's twice as powerful as the one it's replacing, paving the way for 4K HDR gaming. But as it turns out, raw horsepower isn't the only developers have to play with. There's a bit of "secret sauce" that Sony has yet to reveal. The hint of greater things to come originates from Eurogamer's invitation to spends on hands-on time with Mantis Burn Racing on Sony's forthcoming console refresh. Despite not running on the technologically most advanced game engine on the market, Mantis Burn Racing... Read more...
There's been an uproar from gamers about No Man's Sky, one of the most highly hyped games of the year that many feel didn't live up to expectations. Even worse, ticked off gamers have accused developer Hello Games of misleading buyers with descriptions of the game's content and scope that don't measure up to the actual experience. That's how it's been pretty much since the game launched, though now Hello Games and Valve are both under investigation. A user on reddit's forums says he received a response from the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) in the U.K. about trailers, screenshots, and general information posted on the game's Steam store page being misleading and misrepresenting the title.... Microsoft chose this year's E3 convention to announce not one, but two new game consoles, the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio, the latter a codename for an upgraded version of the Xbox One that will sport more powerful hardware and support playing games at 4K Ultra HD when it arrives in next year. While it may feel like Microsoft jumped the gun by pointing to a new console a year in advance while refreshing it's current generation Xbox One, the motivation was to avoid screwing gamers over. Imagine of Microsoft would have kept mum about Project Scorpio and offered up the canned response of not talking about future products or rumors, as companies like to do when pinged about their roadmaps. Then... Read more...
A new Titanfall game is right around the bend, but if you're planning to play Titanfall 2 in all its graphical glory at a 4K Ultra HD resolution, you better bring a serious arsenal of hardware to the fight. Developer Respawn and publisher Electronic Arts revealed Minimum, Recommended, and Ultra 4K60 specs (4K resolution at 60 frames per second), with the latter calling for an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card. You'll also need an Intel Core i7-6700K processor or equivalent, 16GB of RAM, 45GB of available storage space, and a 512Kbps Internet connection or faster. So basically you'll need a big and burly graphics card (only the new Titan X is faster than the GeForce GTX 1080), a screaming... Read more...
An indie game developer is facing repercussions from Valve after it decided to file a lawsuit against a band of anonymous Steam users. The suit alleges a number of offenses, including cyberbullying, stalking, forming a hate group to harass and disrupt the company's business and products, and so forth. In response to the lawsuit, Valve removed all of the developer's games from Steam. Digital Homicide and its co-founder James Romine are seeking $18 million from 100 anonymous Steam users known only by their online nicknames. In the suit, the developer asks the court to subpoena Valve to fork over the real life identities of the 100 individuals, most of which are part of a group that was initially... Read more...
Super Mario is one of the most iconic characters in gaming of all time, and the infamous plumber is certainly Nintendo's most valuable IP. With Nintendo finally focusing on mobile gaming, there's an opportunity to rake in a mountain of cash. Investors realize this, hence why the announcement of the forthcoming free-to-play Super Mario Run headed to iOS devices sparked a surge in Nintendo's share price. Shares of Nintendo shot up 13 percent in Tokyo trading Thursday. Just a day before, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto stood next to Apple CEO Tim Cook at Apple's iPhone 7 event in San Francisco to announce Super Mario Run, a perpetual runner game where Super Mario constantly moves forward. it's a... Duke Nukem is making yet another return to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and can you guess what he's all out of? That's right, there won't be any gum chomping or bubble blowing, but in Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour, there will be plenty of alien carnage, even more than you remember playing when the iconic original shipped two decades ago. For those of us who've been gaming since the days of MS-DOS and before, it's a sobering thought that 20 years has passed since Duke Nukem 3D landed on our beige desktops. It helped popularize the first-person shooter genre, though it's just as memorable for Duke Nukem's over-the-top macho personality. He's at times sexist and often vulgar, but admittedly... Well, this is a bit of a bummer. Polyphony had originally planned for Gran Turismo Sport to drift onto the PlayStation 4 in mid-November, but has now decided to delay the title to sometime in 2017. Polyphony pointed to high expectations, both from eager fans itching to get behind the virtual wheel and its own development team, as why it's delaying what it considers its foremost competitive gaming title. Polyphony's putting a lot of effort into GT Sport. The developer said it's one of its most ambitious undertakings to date as it employs the latest technologies, things like physics-based rendering and sound simulations. Polyphony isn't shy about saying it's trying to reinvent the racing game genre,... Read more...
If you're not having fun playing No Man's Sky or are tired of contending with the bugs, you may be able to get your money back. Some gamers are reporting that they've been able to successfully receive a refund for No Man's Sky through Valve's Steam platform even if they've played the game for more than two hours, which is typically one of the restrictions when requesting a refund. No Man's Sky developer Hello Games is taking a beating on social media. The core complaint from angry gamers is that the title was grossly overhyped prior to release. Many of the features that were discussed leading up to its launch never made it into the title, and to make matters worse there are various bugs that... Read more...
Developer 343 Industries is wrapping up work on Halo 5: Forge, the free version of Halo 5's map editing tool that's scheduled to release for Windows 10 next month. If you're planning on using it to build maps and play custom games on your PC, you'll need to bring some relatively high end hardware to the party, especially to play at a 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. 343 Industries announced the different system requirements for Halo 5: Forge. The Minimum specs required aren't too steep—it calls for the following: CPU: Intel Core i5 at 2.3GHz or AMD equivalent GPU: GeForce GTX 650 Ti VRAM: 2GB RAM: 8GB of RAM 40GB of storage space It's when you bump up to the Recommended specs to play at... No Man’s Sky, the interstellar survival/exploration title from Hello Games, hit the PC and console platforms this month, roughly two years after its now infamous reveal at the 2013 VGX Awards. There it received exuberant praise and took home several awards—including a “Special Commendation for Innovation.” During that showing, what impressed industry insiders most were its seamless transitions from outer-space travel to atmospheric burn-in, to boots on the ground. No Man's Sky features a massively open environment that remains one of the cooler aspects of the game--it never seems to get old once you've had a chance to experience it. And experience it, we have. Damn you, Google Maps! While NMS... Read more...
Bethesda is wrapping up development on Nuka-World, it's final bit of DLC for its award winning Fallout 4 game. It's due for release at the end of the month, which even though at this point is less than a week away, feels like an agonizing wait for arguably the most anticipated add-on for Fallout 4. Ah, but don't fret—rather than pace around anxiously waiting for its release, you can spend an hour taking an extended look at actual game play footage from one of the developers. Nuka-World's lead artist Mark Teare joined Matt Grandstaff, Bethesda's global community lead, for an hour-long livestream and commentary on the upcoming DLC via Twitch. The livestream is now over, but the video's been posted... Read more...
