This is one of the best times of the year to build or buy a new PC, whether it's a desktop configuration or a banging laptop. That's because Black Friday is in full swing. It's a particularly strategic time to buy a premium system, as Black Friday discounts can take the sting out of their premium price tags. As such, you can hop over to Dell today and save $750 on an Alienware m15 gaming laptop. The listed "estimated value" on this configuration is $2,149.99. That's a bit optimistic on Dell's part—the list price is not always the actual price—but you're still getting a strong setup for the money. When the discount goes live at 12:00 pm ET (9:00 am PT) today, the Alienware m15 highlighted... Read more...
Earlier this year, we reported that Frank Azor -- who was one of the original co-founders of Alienware and served as VP and GM for Dell's XPS, G Series and Alienware gaming brands -- was exiting the company to take position at AMD. Today, we have received confirmation from multiple reliable sources that Azor's official replacement has been named, and she is none other than Vivian Lien of ASUS. For those that have been around the enthusiast computing and gaming community for a while, Vivian should be familiar to you. She most recently served as the Global Head of Marketing for ASUS Gaming. Vivian has been with ASUS since 2007, where she has become a powerhouse presence in the marketing... Read more...
Intel had a deathgrip on high-end gaming PCs for years while AMD's processors struggled to provide enough gaming performance to be competitive in the high end enthusiast tier. The tide has recently turned, however, and this summer AMD's Ryzen 3000 series of Zen 2-based 7nm processors took the world by storm. As a result of this monumental shift, Dell's gaming products division, Alienware has more recently started offering AMD's CPUs in its desktop lineup for the first time since the glory days of AMD's Phenom II. Previously we took a look at a Threadripper-powered Alienware Area-51 desktop, but on the table today we have a crazy-powerful configuration of the company's all-new Alienware Aurora... Read more...
Alienware may just be the most well-known gaming desktop and notebook brand on the planet. The company's gray alien logo graces everything from proper, upgradeable desktops like the Aurora R9 to the huge desktop-replacement Area-51m notebook complete with actual desktop hardware. What we have on hand today isn't quite so big and bulky, however: the new 2019 edition of the company's workhorse m15 gaming notebook, the m15 R2. We had a chance to spend some one-on-one time with this sweet portable machine back at Computex, but now it's come through our labs from the alien mothership for an extended visit. When we first pulled the m15 R2 from its box, we were a little surprised how small it is. Sure,... Read more...
Dell is already a known quantity in the professional market with its lineup of well-received UltraSharp monitors. In fact, last year we took the time to review the UltraSharp 27 4K PremierColor Monitor (UP2718Q) and gave it high marks for color reproduction and excellent HDR performance. This year at Adobe Max 2019, Dell unveiled the 2020 version of the UltraSharp 27 4K PremierColor Monitor (UP2720Q). Dell includes all of the features that made us give its predecessor high marks including 100% Adobe RGB, 98% DCI-P3 and 80% BT2020 coverage. The key upgrades this year come with the addition of two new features: Thunderbolt 3 integration and a built-in colorimeter. The UP2720Q includes... Read more...

This is typically the best time of the year to score a deal on PC hardware. Dell is getting a head start on the Black Friday and Cyber Monday festivities with some early deals on desktops, laptops, smart TVs, and more. Dell's Pre-Black Friday Desktop And Laptop Deals Some of the discounts are hefty. Shown above is Dell's G5 15 SE Gaming Laptop. Intel officially launched its 10nm Ice Lake-U family back in August, and there have been a handful of systems shipping with the power-sipping processors. Among the first OEMs to jump onboard was Dell with the XPS 13 2-in-1 (2019) we recently evaluated. When that refreshed convertible launched, it was available with one of three processors: Intel Core i3-1005 G1 processor (2C/4T, 4MB cache, up to 3.4GHz) Intel Quad Core i5-1035 G1 processor (4C/8T, 6MB cache, up to 3.6GHz) Intel Quad Core i7-1065 G7 processor (4C/8T, 8MB cache, up to 3.9GHz) Not long after those Ice Lake processors were announced, Intel launched its 10th generation Comet Lake-U processors. Dell has since given... Read more...
Many of today’s consumer-centric laptops, tablets, and convertibles are adorned in sleek aluminum chassis’ that are thin and good looking, but can’t withstand a drop from more than a foot or two without incurring some major damage. For those that need a more robust system that can stand up to abuse, Dell has unveiled its new Latitude 7220 Rugged Extreme tablet. Dell claims that it is the world’s most powerful and lightweight tablet in its class, and it has been designed to adhere to MIL-STD-810G/H testing for protection. It is also IP65 rated for dust/dirt and water intrusion when out in the field. The rugged exterior has been proven to protect the tablet from drops of... Read more...
Dell's XPS family of premium laptops has long been synonymous with excellent performance and build quality. In particular, the XPS 13 lineup has included some of the most highly awarded ultraportable PCs on the market today. Today, we have Dell's latest XPS 13 on hand: model 7390, which is a 2-in-1 model with a 360 degree hinge and a 13.3-inch multi-touch IPS display that converts what looks like an otherwise-traditional laptop into a tablet. Perhaps more importantly, this is the first retail notebook we've gotten our mitts on with Intel's 10nm CPUs, codenamed Ice Lake, in tow. In fact, Dell says this is the first notebook shipped to market with an Ice Lake processor inside. Anticipation... Read more...
There's been plenty of doom and gloom surrounding PC shipments over the past few years, with many consumers and business opting to not upgrade their hardware on a regular basis. However, new numbers that are in from research firm Gartner suggests that PC sales actually saw a slight uptick for Q3 2019 compared to the year-ago period, continuing a trend we saw during the second quarter. According to Garner's figures, shipments actually increased by 1.1 percent during Q3 to 68.1 million units. This compares to 67.4 million units during Q3 2018. What's interesting is that there were a number of factors at play that could have had a negative impact on the quarterly numbers: namely warning signs... Read more...
It's no secret that Intel has a lot riding on its "Ice Lake" 10th generation Core CPUs manufactured on its 10-nanometer fabrication process. The chipmaker got by on squeezing more power and efficiency out of its 14-nm node for what seemed like an eternity, but we're talking about a mobile sector that relentlessly demands more performance and longer battery life. This oft-delayed Intel process node promises to reduce power consumption and increase performance by a wide margin over the Kaby Lake Refresh processors that previously served as the brains for thin and light PCs. Dell's XPS 13 2-In-1 Gets Ice Lake Engine Under The Hood One of the first Ice Lake systems available at retail is Dell's XPS... Read more...
AMD continues to add more server feathers to its cap courtesy of its Zen 2 CPU architecture, which is the driving force behind its 2nd generation EPYC "Rome" processors. One of those feathers is Dell—it announced five new PowerEdge platforms powered by EPYC, each one designed from the group-up and optimized to support features like PCI Express 4.0. Among the new offerings are two 1S racks (PowerEdge R6515 and R7515) and three 2S racks (R6525, R7525, and C6525). According to Dell, the EPYC-equipped PowerEdge C6525 delivers weather modeling results in half the time as previous generation EPYC servers, resulting in faster severe storm notifications. Dell also claims its newest server products... Read more...

Dell often rides the bleeding edge, as it wastes little time arming its laptops and desktops with the latest hardware platforms available. At minimum, this means yearly refreshes of its popular product categories. So, right on cue, Dell has begun rolling out updated variants of its XPS 15 laptop with some nifty upgrades compared to the version we reviewed last September. One of the biggest changes is the addition of an OLED display option. Just as we have been enamored by Samsung's display panels on its mobile phones, we hold Dell's InfinityEdge displays in similar regard, as being among the best around in the laptop space. An InfinityEdge panel is again on tap for the 2019 refresh, but... Read more...
