When it comes to technology, most things get better with time as new iterations are introduced. Consider the first smartphone you ever owned, and how it compares to the one you have now, for example. The same is true in the land of laptops, and Dell in particular has been relentless in pushing forward its thin and light XPS 13. We had a chance to spend some hands-on time with one in the run up to the Consumer Electronics Show, where Dell has now unveiled its 2019 model (or more precisely, the XPS 13 9380). Dell is billing its latest model as "the most powerful 13-inch in its class," and thanks to an infusion of Intel's Whiskey Lake architecture, the XPS 13 has so far lived up to the claim in... Dell didn't just set out to build an incredibly fast gaming laptop with its latest Alienware offering -- it wanted to build the world's fastest mobile gaming rig and it has likely succeeded magnificently. Witness the Area-51m, which is a beastly machine that is factory overclocked and designed to handle pretty much any game that you throw its way. More importantly, the Area-51m is immensely upgradable, with customers being able to swap out their GPUs and the onboard CPU. Speaking of the graphics card, the Area-51m can accommodate NVIDIA's new real-time ray-tracing graphics cards, topping out with the GeForce RTX 2080. These GPUs are affixed to a module which can be [relatively] easily removed... Read more...

Today is NVIDIA GeForce RTX Mobility day, which means that a number of announcements will be coming down in the coming hours regarding the new mobile-centric gaming GPUs. The latest company to announce new products based around the new family of GPUs is Dell, which is pushing both the Alienware m15 (our full review) and Alienware m17. The Alienware m15 and m17 are two peas from the same pod, with the former being built around a 15-inch display, while the latter makes use of a 17.3-inch display. No matter which notebook you select, you'll have the choice of a 1080p (up to 144Hz on the m15) or 4K display panel. The m17 also offers a third option: a 2560x1440 panel with a 120Hz refresh... The gaming laptop market is one of one of the largest and most diverse segments of the PC industry, with systems ranging in price from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. Dell's Alienware gaming machines typically lean towards the higher-end of the price spectrum, with premium build quality and strong component configurations, like the Alienware m15 that we're looking at here today. Dell's Alienware gaming division has re-tooled this machine as well, almost from the ground-up, while still preserving its classic Alienware design signature. The new Alienware m15 ranges in price from $1,379.99 up to just under $4,000, if you want to go for broke. Our exact test unit is well-equipped, but sits... Read more...
Dell is expected to have a big presence at this year's CES being held in Las Vegas next week, but the company is pre-announcing one product before the big show. We present the Latitude 7400 2-in-1, which is the company's latest business notebook built around a 14-inch display. The display has narrow bezels all around along with a Full HD (1920x1080) resolution. The display is covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and features anti-reflective and anti-smudge coatings. But what's most interesting is what's actually incorporated into the top bezel of the Latitude 7400 2-in-1, and that is a proximity sensor. Dell calls it ExpressSign-in, and it wakes the system within one second when it detects your... Read more...
Gaming laptops are a tough gig for PC OEMs. Most times, they're either beastly heavy and loud machines, or if they're thinner and lighter they either sacrifice performance or battery life, or both. You usually can't have your cake and eat it too, as they say. However, Dell's Alienware division seems to have split the baby nicely, so to speak, with the new 15-inch Alienware m15 gaming notebook. We're just now getting beyond our kicking the tires phase with the machine here at HotHardware, but our full review is inbound in the weeks ahead, hopefully just before the new year. That said, first impressions are everything and with a well-engineered cooling solution on board, this machine not only maintains... Read more...
Alienware's beastly Area-51 gaming desktop is getting a specs upgrade today with the addition of new second-generation AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors. Alienware began using Ryzen Threadripper last year in the Area-51 when AMD’s HEDT processor lineup was initially launched. This time around, Alienware is providing two additional processor options: the Threadripper 2920X (12 cores, 24 threads) and the Threadripper 2950X (16 cores, 32 threads). For those that prefer to keep the price tag of the Area-51 from ballooning quickly, the first-generation Ryzen Threadripper 1900X (8 cores, 16 threads) is also available. All of the processors find a home on Alienware's custom... Read more...
With October nearing its end and November just around the corner, that means everyone will be gearing up for the holidays. It also means that Black Friday is creeping up fast on those looking to score a deal. Retailers will be wasting no time and ads for this year's deals have already started to leak. Costco's Black Friday ad has turned up, and it looks like this year will be big for tech fans looking for new TVs, game consoles, laptops, and tablets for themselves or as Christmas gifts. One of the best deals Costco's ad has is on a Dell XPS 13 4K UHD touchscreen laptop with a $500 discount. That machine has an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. However, the... Read more...
Dell is cranking out a new, next-generation family of rugged Latitude notebooks. The notebooks were designed to survive in the harshest conditions and can withstand numerous drops, tumbles and just about anything else that you can toss at them (within reason). The three models that were introduced this week include the Latitude Rugged Extreme 7424, along with the Latitude Rugged 5424 and 5420. The Latitude Rugged Extreme 7424 is the flagship of the family and features a 14-inch FHD touch display that is protected with Gorilla Glass and features a 1000-nits brightness rating. The system can be equipped with either Intel Skylake or Kaby Lake processors with integrated or discrete graphics. The... Read more...

However, the rockin' resolution is of 5120x1440 is bound to get the most attention, and with good reason. Most monitors of this size have a vertical height of 1080 pixels, so the 1440-pixel vertical height of... Read more...
Dell has just pulled the wraps off its thinnest Alienware laptop to date: the Alienware m15. Despite its mission to make the Alienware m15 as thin and light as possible, there were no compromises made with respect to performance by Dell's renegade gaming products division.  The notebook measures just 0.83 inches thick and weighs in at a relatively lightweight (for a gaming notebook) 4.78 pounds. In keeping with its model number designation, the Alienware m15 is adorned with a 15.6-inch display that can be had with Full HD (60Hz or 144Hz) or UHD 4K resolution (60Hz) panels. Those displays are backed by one of two GPU options: an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB of GDDR5 or a GeForce GTX 1070... Read more...
The Dell XPS 15 should look familiar if you're a regular HotHardware reader. We’ve seen various iterations of this power-users’ mobile PC over the past few years, usually with an Editors’ Choice logo pegged at the end of the review. The latest version keeps that winning streak alive, thanks to new, more powerful six-core Coffee Lake-based Intel Core processor options and robust NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics. As in previous generations, this new model is all about the upgrades, and the big news this time around is a selection of Coffee Lake 8Th Gen Intel Core i5, i7, and yes, i9 processors. In addition to the new CPUs though, the machine's maximum RAM config has been... It typically follows that once Intel or AMD roll out new processors, whether for desktop or mobile (or the server environment), systems builders are quick to announce new systems built around the chips in question. Such is the case today with Intel launching a new wave of 8th generation Core processors for thin and light notebooks and 2-in-1 convertibles. Seizing on the opportunity, Dell today refreshed its Inspiron 2-in-1 lineup with Intel's new 8th gen Core CPUs. There are two categories of Inspiron convertibles that are seeing updates, including the Inspiron 7000 and Inspiron 5000. Starting with the former, buyers can choose from 13-inch, 15-inch, and 17-inch models, each of which leverages... Read more...
