It looks as though Geekbench is providing us with some pretty good insight on incoming Ryzen 3000 Series processor from AMD. However, these aren't the 7nm Zen 2 monsters that we've been talking about in recent weeks. Instead, the leaks pertain to upcoming Picasso APUs that pair 12nm FinFET Raven Ridge CPU architecture with Vega GPUs. We have to give a shout out to Hexus, which managed to track down three separate Geekbench listing for upcoming Hewlett-Packard notebooks. The three machines are as follows: HP Laptop 17-ca1xxx AMD Ryzen 5 3500U (2.1GHz) with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx 4 cores, 8 threads HP Laptop 17-ca1xxx AMD Ryzen 3 3300U (2.1GHz) with Radeon Vega... Standing out in a sea of excellent laptops is tough nowadays, especially with a metal chassis being the bare minimum point of entry to the premium class. Each company offers its own unique take – Microsoft has Alcantara keyboards, Dell offers super thin screen borders and carbon fiber, Lenovo has fancy hinges and OLED displays, Apple has its touch bar, while Asus and Acer offer value propositions. So what’s a laptop brand like HP to do when faced with tough competition and a virtual sea of options for consumers? Meet the HP Spectre Folio, the company’s latest ultra-portable 2-in-1 13-inch hybrid notebook that embraces a bit of what also makes things like luxury cars great... Read more...

Gaming headsets are a dime a dozen these days, particularly with the explosion of eSports drawing the attention of PC peripheral companies, new and old. Be that as it may, HP figured out a way to stand out from the crowd with its new Omen Mindframe, the first audio headset to employ an active cooling solution inside each of the earcups. Say goodbye to sweaty ears, if that is something you find yourself battling against amid the throes of the frag. Before we dive into the headset, let's quickly reflect on the Omen brand. Omen is essentially a rebirth of the VoodooPC acquisition HP made more than a decade ago. VoodooPC was a popular boutique builder of premium PCs, founded by Rahul Sood, and the... Read more...
HP is refreshing its sleek and stylish Spectre X360 convertible laptops with new designs and upgraded hardware. This includes both the 13-inch Spectre X360 13 and 15-inch Spectre X360 15 models, though it is the smaller of the two that purportedly boasts extra long battery life—up to a whopping 22.5 hours, according to HP, for an Always-On, Always-Connected experience. That is a 37 percent increase over the previous generation. In our experience, real-world battery life usually trails rated metrics, but if the Spectre X360 13 comes anywhere close to 22.5 hours, it will be tantalizing selling point for people who need their laptops to last a full work day (and beyond). To be clear, this... Read more...
Microsoft's roll out of the October 2018 Update (Redstone 5) for Windows 10 has not exactly been smooth. From audio woes to missing files, it appears the latest upgrade to Windows 10 needed a bit more time in the oven before serving up. That said, Microsoft has been busy fixing various bugs with the October 2018 Update, including one that was causing some HP systems to experience the dreaded blue screen of death (BSOD). "In working with HP, Microsoft has identified an HP driver with known incompatibility with certain HP devices on Windows 10 versions 1803 and 1809. On October 11, 2018 Microsoft removed the driver from Windows Update to reduce the number of devices affected. Additionally, Microsoft... Read more...

Yesterday, Hewlett-Packard announced its Spectre Folio, which the company envisions as a thorough rethink of the modern-day PC. The Spectre Folio takes on a 2-in-1 convertible form-factor and uses a combination of CNC-machined magnesium and aluminum along with high-quality, hand-crafted leather to create a true premium device. We were able to get our hands on the Spectre Folio at the event, and we must say, it looks just as good in person as it does in the official press images.  The leather really sets the convertible apart from the rest of the me-too designs in this segment, and actually serves as an integral part of hinge mechanism for the different operating modes. As we've... Read more...
Bug Bounty programs are very common today with most of the big tech firms hosing them. The goal is to get hackers to report any bugs they find for a payday rather than turning to the black market to sell their hacks. HP has announced a new Bug Bounty program to lure researchers in to hack its printer software. The program offers up to $10,000 to hackers who can find these vulnerabilities. HP’s opened its Bug Bounty program in May and had 34 security researchers signed up at the start. One of those researchers was already paid out $10,000 for what was identified as a serious flaw with HP's printers. HP has a wealth of product outside of printers, but says that it chose the printer arm for... Read more...

To celebrate 10 years of that success, the company decided to completely redesigned their business class powerhouse notebook to cater to today's changing workforce. When first launched, baby boomers were still a force in the corporate world. Fast forward a decade, and many of those boomers are living out their golden years on the golf course, with millennials making up nearly half of the mainstream workforce in the United States currently. To appeal to this younger, more tech-savvy road warrior, HP claims to have reinvented their EliteBook... Read more...
Mobile device manufacturers seem to have really stepped things up in the engineering department since the arrival of the Microsoft Surface. After racing to the bottom with netbooks for a time, things turned around, and we’ve seen an influx of high-quality systems using premiums materials. We've seen gorgeous designs from ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, especially in standard clamshell form factors. However, no one seemed to crack the code when it comes to the detachable form factor where the Microsoft Surface Pro shines. There have been some solid offerings in the space, no doubt, but the Surface Pro still sets the bar. HP takes a different approach to the detachable PC with its Zbook X2 G4... Read more...

Shipments of desktops, laptops, and workstation machines tallied in the tens of millions in the first quarter of 2018, though overall the market for new PCs was flat to start the year, according to the number crunching analysts at International Data Corporation. Overall, the market saw 60.4 million units shipped, which is virtually the same as the number of new PCs that entered the marketplace in the same quarter a year ago. IDC lauded this as a good thing, saying that staying flat for the third consecutive quarter is a better proposition than the 1.5 percent decline it had previously forecast. And in that regard it is. However, research firm Gartner had a different take based on its own set... Read more...
