Ever since playing Joust on his family's Atari 800XL 8-bit computer as a youth, Zak has been hooked on PC and console games. His passion for gaming as a kid led to an interest in PCs as a teenager, which ended up with him founding his own PC repair shop in the year 2000. Decades later, he's still building, still gaming, and still arguing on the internet with any opinion anyone has. A former writer of news and reviews for The Tech Report, Zak is a modern-day Renaissance man who may not be an expert on anything, but knows just a little about nearly everything.

It's got a 12th-gen... Read more...

A lot of people go into FromSoftware's games with the wrong ideas about what they're all about. Titles like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and now Elden Ring are often described as online action RPGs, but that's not really accurate. The games do... Read more...
We'll come clean up front: it's true that these security exploits require local access, and due to that fact, the urgent need to update might be a bit overstated. In this case, though, the excitement is less about the breadth of the... Read more...
Single-board computers (SBCs) are fun. If you're not familiar with the concept, single-board computers are exactly what it says on the tin: a whole system on a single board, usually comprising an SoC, some DRAM, maybe an external Ethernet... Read more...
It probably shouldn't bear explanation, but just in case someone in the audience hasn't made this connection, solar energy doesn't generate power at night. Solar panels generate electricity through a photovoltaic effect, which means they... Read more...

NVIDIA's high-priced flagship GPU, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, is a Titan card in all but name. As befits that class of card, it not only has a wide 384-bit memory bus, but also hot-clocked GDDR6X memory running at 21 Gbps per pin, giving it... Read more...

AMD's Ryzen 7 5800X3D achieves incredible performance uplifts in certain applications by "simply" adding an extra 64MB of cache onto a Ryzen 7 5800X. We put "simply" in quotes because the vertical die stacking process employed on the chip... Read more...
