Ever since playing Joust on his family's Atari 800XL 8-bit computer as a youth, Zak has been hooked on PC and console games. His passion for gaming as a kid led to an interest in PCs as a teenager, which ended up with him founding his own PC repair shop in the year 2000. Decades later, he's still building, still gaming, and still arguing on the internet with any opinion anyone has. A former writer of news and reviews for The Tech Report, Zak is a modern-day Renaissance man who may not be an expert on anything, but knows just a little about nearly everything.

It's pretty shocking to think about the reality of the semiconductor market. There are only a handful of vendors in each market that are relevant to most users. Take GPUs for example where there is only Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA. Only the... Read more...
AMD's next-generation Ryzen processors are on the way, and the leaks we've seen so far are super promising. The chips perform well in single-threaded benchmarks, and that translates to solid GPU performance too. We haven't seen a leaked... Read more...
It would be pretty reasonable to expect Intel's next-gen Raptor Lake processors to not overclock very well. After all, they share the same manufacturing process as its current-generation Alder Lake processors, and those chips already run... Read more...
By the end of this year, we're expecting new CPUs and GPUs from all three of the primary-color trifecta: Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA. The big question is what the order of releases will be. While release order does not matter that much from a... Read more...

Selecting fast memory is one of the more nuanced aspects of building an AMD Ryzen PC. We feel like the idea is fairly-well disseminated among the DIY community, but for those not familiar, the transfer rate of Ryzen processors' internal... Read more...
NVIDIA hasn't actually announced a name for its next-generation GeForces, but they're likely to be known as the GeForce RTX 40 series. There's been a ton of buzz about the top-end of that family. The fastest card is expected to be called... Read more...
Memory bandwidth is one of the most important specifications that determines a graphics card's performance potential. It reflects the maximum data throughput rate between the GPU chip itself and its memory packages. That's why hardware... Read more...
Recent rumors have implied that top brass at Intel were considering the cancellation of Arc's entire product line. While Intel has been known to do such a thing—that was the eventual fate of Larrabee—it seems unlikely to us given that the... Read more...
Everyone is waiting with bated breath for the release of new hardware in the second half of this year. As we head into August and new CPUs and GPUs loom ever larger on the horizon, the leaks become more and more tantalizing. Today's leak... Read more...
PC hardware companies work in funny ways sometimes. When AMD had a new driver ready that added extra features with arguably niche appeal, like its AMD Link in-home streaming tech, it was very excited to tell us about it, and have us tell... Read more...
Grand Theft Auto V is one of the most profitable entertainment franchises in the history of games. It came along as a return to form after what many fans would argue was a misstep with the more gritty and realistic GTA 4. Originally... Read more...
Back at Computex, AMD announced some extra details about the AM5 socket that its Zen 4 processors will slot into. In case you missed that information, Socket AM5 will be a Landing Grid Array (LGA) like Threadripper and competitor Intel's... Read more...
You've probably heard a lot of conflicting things about the power consumption of NVIDIA's upcoming Ada family of GPUs, which are named after Ada Lovelace. There have been wildly varying reports ranging from 400W all the way up to "800W or... Read more...
Two days ago, I was at my cousin's residence attempting to troubleshoot a Brother laser printer that would not work. The printer was duplicated several times in the Windows "Printers & Scanners" dialog, and troubleshooting had to go as far... Read more...

You've probably heard that tech companies have stopped hiring lately. This is true of Apple and Google, but it's not universal. AMD is hiring, and even building a new campus for its Radeon Technology Group division. Older hardware... Read more...
As usual, the closer we get to a product launch, the more leaks we see. Intel's 13th-generation Core family, codenamed Raptor Lake, is expected to be announced in September, and should have completed manufacturing awhile back. It'll launch... Read more...
