Congratulations, online shoppers, you collectively bought 100,000 lunchboxes over the past two days in the US, which might be the most surprising statistic from Amazon's braggadocios announcement today. Those massive lunchbox sales helped Prime Day become Amazon's largest shopping event ever, surpassing Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined, the company claims. I'm not sure which is more impressive—that lunchboxes are apparently a hot ticket item, or that Prime Day took Black Friday and Cyber Monday behind the shed and beat them both up at the same time. Probably the former, though it's close. "We want to thank Prime members all around the world," said Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO.... Read more...
Microsoft is baking in tighter integration between Windows 10 and third-party digital assistants such as Alexa, the helpful AI that is found in many of Amazon's products (such as its Echo speaker line). The latest test build of Windows 10 19H2 (18362.10005) features a change to enable digital assistants like Alexa to be voice activated from the Lock screen. This test build is available to Windows Insiders who are subscribed to the Slow ring. These typically entail more polished builds than the ones that first show up in the Fast ring, and features they contain are more likely to end up in the final release that gets doled out to the public. In this case, the final release is the next major upgrade... Read more...
Amazon is one of the most heavily visited websites in the world and ships an enormous amount of items globally each day. While millions of people have shopped at Amazon during its Prime Day sale, which kicked off yesterday, many customers may have never stopped and considered what is going on behind the scenes. Amazon warehouse workers allege that they work in poor conditions, and in some locations, workers have gone on strike during Prime Day. At an Amazon warehouse location in Staffordshire, UK workers claim that they urinate in bottles rather than take bathroom breaks over fears that they will miss quotas by walking to toilets that are too far away. They are worried about losing their jobs... Read more...

Auction site eBay is kicking off a sales event of its own later today (or right now, depending on when you read this), to counter Amazon's big Prime Day bonanza. In a nod towards self awareness, eBay is calling it a Crash Sale—you know, in case Amazon, most people's first choice when hunting for a deal today, gets overwhelmed by the traffic and crashes. "eBay is primed to deliver exactly what shoppers want during this year’s crash (sale)," said Jay Hanson, VP and COO, Americas. "July has become a massive shopping season, and our summer sales include blockbuster deals that will not disappoint." The auction site is banking on history repeating, and setting itself up to be the beneficiary.... Read more...

You're not still using your big screen TV's built-in speakers, are you? Granted, not all built-in speakers sound terrible on some modern TVs, but almost without exception, something as simple as adding a decent soundbar can significantly upgrade the audio quality. If that is the route you are considering, check out Samsung's HW-N650 Panoramic Soundbar, which is on sale right now. Amazon has Samsung's HW-N650 Panoramic Soundbar marked down to $339.90. That is 32 percent off its regular $499.99 list price—a delightful discount, especially considering that it hit a day ahead of the 48-hour Prime Day sales event. Samsung HW-N650 Panoramic Soundbar - $339.90 on Amazon (save 32 percent) There... Read more...
Amazon's Prime Day kicks off in less than two days and there will a slew of deals to be had. Actually, just like last year, Prime Day will actually encompass two days of deals (the full 48 hours this time around); so maybe Amazon should think about renaming its shopping extravaganza. With that being said, Prime Day deals are of course exclusive to members that pay $119 a year for the privilege. Those who aren't currently Prime members, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial to qualify for all of the promotions. As an added bonus, those who have an Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card, you'll get 6 percent back on Prime Day instead of the usual 5 percent (this also applies to purchases... Read more...
Sure, you can summon Alexa to order a pizza, but if you want a beer, you will have to get up and march your backside to the refrigerator, and get it yourself. Might that change one day? Who knows, but perhaps things are trending in that direction. There is talk of Amazon developing an Alexa-enabled robot that could follow users around the home, like a puppy (but without the pee puddles in its wake). It is called Vesta, and is it is supposedly one of the things being developed by Amazon's Lab126 research and development division located in Sunnyvale, California. Whether Vesta actually sees the light of day or not remains to be seen, but at the very least, the robot is something Amazon is pouring... Read more...
Amazon and Google have settled their spat that has been going on for over a year now. YouTube was pulled from Amazon Fire TV devices back in late 2017. Google pulled YouTube from Fire TV devices in part because of Amazon's business practices that involved not selling Google products like Chromecast and not offering Prime Video for Chromecast users. Things have turned around, and the spat is now over with Google announcing the availability of Prime Video on Chromecast and Android TV. Google says that YouTube is also back on Fire TV devices; the apps are on both platforms starting today. Google brags that Chromecast and Chromecast built-in users now have access to over 2,000 apps for... Read more...

Prime Day will be here before you know it, but there have been some nice deals already from Amazon. If you want to keep up on the deals, we've talked about how to get notifications previously. However, Amazon's Woot is also getting in on the discount action, and Woot has some great deals in 8 and 10-inch Fire HD tablets that are on sale right now. The catch being they are not the latest versions of the tablets, though they are still new sealed box items. The discounted Fire HD tablets include the 2015 version the Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet. This machine has a 10.1-inch HD touchscreen IPS display, WiFi, and a quad-core 1.5GHz processor. The tablet runs FireOS 5 and has 32GB of storage for just $79.99.... Read more...
