Alienware's beastly Area-51 gaming desktop is getting a specs upgrade today with the addition of new second-generation AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors. Alienware began using Ryzen Threadripper last year in the Area-51 when AMD’s HEDT processor lineup was initially launched. This time around, Alienware is providing two additional processor options: the Threadripper 2920X (12 cores, 24 threads) and the Threadripper 2950X (16 cores, 32 threads). For those that prefer to keep the price tag of the Area-51 from ballooning quickly, the first-generation Ryzen Threadripper 1900X (8 cores, 16 threads) is also available. All of the processors find a home on Alienware's custom... Read more...
Dell has just pulled the wraps off its thinnest Alienware laptop to date: the Alienware m15. Despite its mission to make the Alienware m15 as thin and light as possible, there were no compromises made with respect to performance by Dell's renegade gaming products division.  The notebook measures just 0.83 inches thick and weighs in at a relatively lightweight (for a gaming notebook) 4.78 pounds. In keeping with its model number designation, the Alienware m15 is adorned with a 15.6-inch display that can be had with Full HD (60Hz or 144Hz) or UHD 4K resolution (60Hz) panels. Those displays are backed by one of two GPU options: an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB of GDDR5 or a GeForce GTX 1070... Read more...

It’s evolving. Alienware’s Area-51 is back with new upgrades to accommodate Intel’s most demanding enthusiast CPU yet – the Core i9-7980XE. Sure, on the surface everything seems similar to previous iterations of the machine, but within something new courses through its veins. The new Alienware Area-51 R5 arrives with liquid cooled GPUs for the first time since the brand was introduced. This is the natural next-step for one of the most powerful gaming desktops. Additional cooling should allow for more performance to be squeezed out of its already impressive hardware to tackle more demanding graphics workloads. When we looked at Dell's Alienware Area-51 Threadripper Edition gaming desktop earlier this year, the machine was still technically in a pre-production state. Though we took you on a preliminary guided tour of the system, we felt it premature to look at it under our full-review lens. At that point we were still doing emergency alien brain transplants on it, after all, bringing the machine we had up to production silicon specs, by replacing the pre-production AMD Threadripper chip that shipped with our system. Eventually, things matured with this beastly Threadripper-powered Alienware rig such that we even used it as a megatasking demonstration vehicle for our AMD Ryzen Threadripper... Read more...
Dell announced some pretty impressive gaming PCs this morning, and is rounding out its lineup with two new 34-inch Alienware gaming monitors. There are some clear similarities between the AW3418DW and AW3418DW including quad-zone AlienFX lighting, super-thin bezels and NVIDIA G-SYNC technology to smooth out gameplay and reduce screen tearing. From there, the two monitors differ in key resolution and performance metrics. The AW3418DW sports a resolution of 3440x1440 and features an [overclocked] refresh rate of 120Hz. You’ll also find a 4ms response time, 21:9 screen ratio and 1900R curvature of the display. There’s also the AW3418HW, which drops the resolution down to 2560x1080, while retaining... Read more...
AMD's Ryzen series of next generation desktop processors have garnered a lot of buzz and praise around the web, but among the family of chips, none have created quite the stir as the company's Threadripper models of 16-core and 12-core processors.  While Ryzen helped propel AMD back to essentially performance parity with Intel Core series processors, Ryzen Threadripper offers the hope of surpassing even Intel's latest Core i9 Skylake-X family, with more core resources and PCIe connectivity at its disposal. As it turns out, our first hands-on experience with AMD Ryzen Threadripper wasn't afforded to us by the usual manufacturer press kit, but rather an OEM desktop system from Dell's Alienware... We've been spending quality time with AMD's Ryzen Threadripper in various incarnations, both building our own setups for testing and with OEM systems like the Alienware Area-51 Threadripper Edition beast of a gaming desktop. Initially, with the first chip we received in the system, we saw some strong numbers to be sure. However, yesterday we got our hands on another retail Ryzen Threadripper 1950X processor, and after swapping it out with the pre-production chip in the Alienware system, we saw a notable performance jump. When Dell announced in June that its Alienware gaming division would be the exclusive OEM partner for pre-built 16-core AMD Ryzen Threadripper systems, we figured Alienware would have a jump on the rest of the OEM pack, but we never thought they'd have this much of a head-start. In fact, we have Ryzen Threadripper test kits still incoming from AMD, but Alienware beat them to the punch here with delivery of the all new Area-51 Threadripper Edition. So naturally, we fired-up this 16-core multi-shredding beast post haste to get a look at what it's made of and how she rolls. And let's just say, she rolls good...   The new Alienware Area-51 Threadripper Edition shares the Triad chassis design... Read more...
Dell updated its Alienware 17 gaming laptop at PAX West 2016 with NVIDIA Pascal graphics, but at the time Intel’s quad-core Kaby Lake mobile processors weren’t available yet. It was a short-lived update, however, as the Kaby Lake-powered Alienware 17 was announced a short time later at the start of the Consumer Electronics Show this past January. Today, we’re checking out the newest Alienware 17 R4 gaming laptop featuring the latest of both technologies. The chassis may look familiar, but its all-new on the inside with two 7th-Generation Intel Core i7 processor and four NVIDIA Pascal graphics options.    The Alienware 17 R4 is a full-fledged desktop replacement that packs serious hardware... AMD is looking to take the enthusiast gaming PC market by storm with its upcoming Ryzen Threadripper family, and Dell is apparently more than happy to embrace the new many-core processors. Today at E3, Dell announced the new Alienware Area-51 Threadripper Edition, which as its name implies, is backed by AMD’s top-of-the line consumer CPUs. The Area-51 Threadripper Edition of course features an AMD X399 chipset-based motherboard and is available with either 12- or 16-core Ryzen Threadripper processors, delivering a total of 24 or 32 threads respectively. Dell's Alienware gaming PC division recently announced a refresh of their 13, 15 and 17 notebook product lines, starting with the introduction of their 15 and 17 inch models and more recently unchaining their smaller but just as scrappy 13-inch beast. While the new machines don't usher in Intel's latest Kaby Lake 7th Gen Core series processors (of which only dual-core variants are currently available), they are now packing NVIDIA Pascal firepower, with a GeForce GTX 1080, GeForce GTX 1070 and GeForce GTX 1060 powering the Alienware 17, 15 and 13 models respectively. It was a clean sweep for NVIDIA and the Alienware team also took the opportunity to tighten-up the build quality of their gaming... Read more...
