A Taiwanese man, Ben Hsu, fell asleep wearing a set of AirPods wireless earphones from Apple. Somehow he allegedly managed to swallow one AirPod in his sleep. When he woke up and tried to find the missing earphone, the man says he used his iPhone tracking feature to look for it. That's when things got weird... Hsu claims that he first thought the beeping sound was coming from his bed and he moved the sheets all around, looking for the missing device. He says that he later realized the beeping was coming from his body somewhere. He then decided to head to Kaohsiung Municipal United Hospital where doctors did confirm he actually swallowed the AirPod The medical team gave the man a laxative... If you like the idea of the Apple AirPods, but aren't too fond of their fit in your ear or suitability for staying put during strenuous workouts, Apple has another alternative that will be available soon. The company's Beats Powerbeats Pro wireless earbuds feature the same H1 chip as the second-generation AirPods, but have a sportier design and an ear loop to help keep them better planted while exercising. Apple first announced the Powerbeats Pro back on April 3rd, and we're now learning that preorders for the wireless earphones will commence on May 3rd at 10am EST. The Powerbeats Pro will actually ship (and be available in Apple Stores) on May 10th. The Powerbeats Pro, unlike... Read more...
Apple just launched its second-generation AirPods a month ago, and surprisingly, they are already on sale. The sale comes at a time when the AirPods have been rather hard to come by, even from Apple retail stores. Amazon is currently selling the AirPods with Charging Case for $139.99, which is $20 off the regular retail price. The only downside to the deal is that they aren't actually in stock; they will be back in stock on May 10th. But luckily, Amazon is still allowing you to place an order so that they'll ship one they come back in stock. Of course, you'll get free shipping if you're an Amazon Prime member. We should mention that this the standard version of the second-generation... Read more...
When it comes to wireless earbuds on the market today, there are a number of options to choose from, with the most popular being the Apple AirPods (which were just recently refreshed) and the Samsung Galaxy Buds. However, according to a new report, a new competitor might be on the way from none other than Microsoft. Microsoft is no stranger to “smart” audio devices, as it launched its Surface Headphones with integrated Cortana support late last year. Now, the company is looking to shrink that technology down to a wireless earbuds form-factor. The hardware will likely be marketed as Surface Buds if and when they are released, but are currently being developing under... Read more...
Amazon may be getting ready to inject its popular Alexa digital assistant into a pair of wireless earbuds. They would be similar to Apple's premium wireless AirPods, except users would be able to summon Alexa with their voice to play music, look up the weather, and of course order goods from Amazon's ever-expanding catalog of items. Alexa is finding itself in an increasing number of places these days—in January, Amazon SVP of devices and services, Dave Limp, revealed that over 100 million devices with Alexa on board had been sold. The digital assistant is also constantly being upgraded with new skills. Amazon's rumored wireless earbuds would sit in the ear without a hook, just like Apple's... Read more...
It’s not often that we’re witness to vaporware products from Apple, but AirPower definitely fit that category. The wireless accessory – which was supposed to charge an iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch simultaneously -- was first announced alongside the iPhone X way back in September 2017, and was supposed to launch in 2018. However, 2018 came and went with no sign of the device. Today, Apple confirmed what many thought was coming anyway: AirPower has been canceled. The Cupertino, California-based company made the announcement in a statement to TechCrunch, which reads: After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have... Although the second-generation AirPods have been talked about in leaks for the past few months, we’re now getting our first official look at the wireless earbuds. The AirPods and the case that they come in look largely the same as the previous generation, but there are a lot of changes under the hood. For starters, the AirPods are now powered by a new Apple-designed H1 chip (replacing the previous W1), which enables hands-free “Hey Siri” activation for controlling music play back, and querying the digital assistant for actions like placing a phone call. The new H1 chip also provides up to a 50 percent boost talk time compared to the older AirPods.... Read more...
Rumors have been going around that Apple has a second generation of the popular AirPods wireless headphones in the works. The so-called AirPods 2 will reportedly have health monitoring features, but exactly what this health feature would be is unknown. This week Apple released iOS 12.2 for developers, and in this release are some changes and references to new features. One of the changes in iOS 12.2 said to be hidden from public view is a new setup interface for the AirPods 2 devices. The setup screen reportedly indicates that there will be a "Hey, Siri" voice prompt that allows users to set up the voice interface for the next-gen AirPods just as they can for an iPhone or iPad. Once the "Hey,... Read more...
Apple's wireless AirPods have proved popular since being introduced a little over two years ago, though in that time they have not received a true refresh. That will eventually change, and perhaps soon. There has been plenty of talk about an AirPods 2 product being in the pipeline, and according to at least one report, Apple will release its second-gen AirPods sometime in the first half of this year. Previously, it was rumored that Apple was going to integrate noise-cancelling technology into is second-gen AirPods, which would be a welcome upgrade. Perhaps even more useful (especially for joggers and outdoor types in general), it was said that refreshed AirPods would follow in the footsteps of... Read more...
Apple announced the AirPower wireless charting mat in 2017 when it introduced the iPhone X. At the time, the company touted its ability to simultaneously charge an iPhone, the Apple Watch and AirPods. While compatible with the Qi wireless standard, it also had some of Apple’s own proprietary secret sauce added to optimize performance with its products. However, as we strolled further into 2018, there was still no official word from Apple on AirPower or when it would be released. During its iPhone/Apple Watch event held last week at the Spaceship campus, Apple made nary a mention of AirPower. In fact, the company did its best to scrub nearly every mention of... Read more...
Apple's AirPods were initially announced back in 2016 and eventually achieved widespread availability in early 2017. The wireless earbuds are powered by Apple's W1 SoC, provide decent audio quality, and allow you to access the Siri digital assistant without pulling out your iPhone. A new report suggests that true next-generation AirPods won’t arrive until 2019. When these new AirPods land for consumers, they will reportedly feature noise cancellation technology and will be water resistant (a feature that has been spread throughout the iPhone family). Those added features, however, will push the price well beyond the $159 price tag of the current AirPods.  In the meantime,... Read more...
Lots of people around the world have hearing problems and those hearing difficulties are compounded for many when they are in a noisy environment. However, some people don’t want to go through the expense and hassle of getting hearing aids. Apple is tipped to be adding tech called Live Listen to its AirPods later this year that will help people hear better in noisy environments and while it won’t replace real medical hearing devices, it could provide an added boost. Live Listen is a feature specifically meant to help people hear conversations in a noisy environment. The tech is designed to turn the iPhone into a microphone and shoot the conversation audio over to the AirPods or hearing... Read more...
Apple is all about going wireless these days. That philosophy spilled into the audio space when Apple introduced its $159 AirPods, a set of Bluetooth earphones that Apple claims "will forever change the way you use headphones." Now the Cupertino company is apparently eyeing the audiophile space by developing high-end over-the-year headphones to rival other premium options on the market. People who are supposedly familiar with the product's development told Bloomberg that the new earphones could arrive by the end of the year, though that is not set in stone. While the sources did not get into specifics, they said Apple has faced some challenges in developing its new headphones, and that could... Read more...
Apple is set to launch a new and lower-priced version of the 13-inch MacBook Air in the coming months says notoriously accurate analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities. Kuo penned a pair of notes to investors recently that talked about a new MacBook Air notebook that will be enticing to the budget-minded Apple faithful and education sectors alike. Kuo says that the new machine will launch in Q2 2018 and he predicts that the new, cheaper Mac will push overall sales for MacBooks up 10 to 15% this year. Currently, the cheapest 13-inch MacBook sells for $999. While Kuo has details on when the new machine might launch, however, what he doesn't have detail on is what sort of hardware the cheaper machine... Read more...
