E3 has kicked off and EA's press conference has gone down giving us an idea of what the publisher and its developers are working on. EA talked about some big games at the conference including a new Star Wars title, a sequel to Unravel, and a glimpse at the highly anticipated BioWare game Anthem that lands next February. We learned last week that Crackdown 3 for the Xbox had been delayed and is expected to launch in February as well. The rub with E3's conference for those hoping for something new is that all of the big games were already known. Perhaps the most anticipated game EA talked... Read more...
This week EA and DICE announced Battlefield V and gave up lots of details on the game with one of the most prominent differences between this game and others being the inclusion of female characters on the front lines. That fact led many gamers to complain about historical inaccuracies and problems with women in the WWII shooter. Battlefield V developer Oskar Gabrielson has now stepped up and is clearly laying down the law. He tweeted, "First, let me be clear about one thing. Player choice and female playable characters are here to stay." Gabrielson followed that up with, "We want Battlefield... Read more...
Battlefield fans will recall the rumor floating around back in January that the next game in the Battlefield franchise would launch in late 2018. The official title for the game has been confirmed as Battlefield V and the live reveal of the game will happen on May 23 at 1pm PT. The unveil will be hosted by the Daily Show host Trevor Noah and will be streamed on Twitch, YouTube, Mixer, and via the Battlefield website. While we know the reveal is coming next week, we don’t really know much about the game. EA Dice has offered some teaser details on the official Battlefield website and Noah... Read more...
Microtransactions, for better or worse, have become a big business in the world of gaming. Ubisoft recently announced that its revenue from microtransactions now exceeds that of actual game sales. Electronic Arts isn't immune to this practice either, and has come under fire for nickel and diming customers to unlock fan-favorite heroes in Star Wars: Battlefront II. For example, the amount of credits necessary to unlock Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker stands at 60,000 credits. Actually completing the campaign "only" nets you 20,000 credits. In order to unlock these characters for "free", you have... Read more...
There's a new Star Wars movie on the horizon, and Electronic Arts (EA) is looking to leverage the hype surrounding that film to fuel a spectacular launch for Star Wars Battlefront II. Battlefront II is the follow-up to its 2015 predecessor, and EA wants you to know that this game is bigger, badder and loaded to the brim with content (something that was quite lacking with the original Star Wars Battlefront). EA has released a nearly 5-minute-long trailer for the game that is narrated by none other than John Boyega, one of the stars of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the upcoming Star Wars: The... After 11 months of negotiating, the SAG-AFTRA and 11 different game companies have reached a tentative deal that is expected to see voice actors for video games head back to work. The strike started back in October 2016 and this week a tentative agreement has been reached. Among the 11 video game companies that SAG-AFTRA voice actors are protesting include Activision, EA, and Warner Bros. This strike was the longest in SAG history, with the tentative arrangement being reached on Saturday morning. The new terms of the deal will include a bonus structure giving the voice actors an additional... Read more...
If you are a fan of the Star Wars universe, then Electronic Arts has an upcoming game that is sure to get your motor running. Star Wars Battlefront II was announced earlier this year, but it’s the newest multiplayer gameplay trailer that has fans salivating in anticipation of the game's fall release. As we’ve previously reported, the game covers a four-decade span of time that touches on major sequences in the Star Wars movie universe starting with The Phantom Menace and ending with The Force Awakens. This is a big expansion from the Star Wars Battlefront, which focuses primarily on the original... Read more...
Although a teaser trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront II leaked a few days ago, Electronic Arts is today providing us with the real deal on the sequel to the original game, which launched two years ago. While Star Wars: Battlefront was multiplayer-only (and was roundly criticized because of that oversight), Battlefront II actually has a full single-player campaign for those that want it. In fact, the debut trailer for the game focuses primarily on the single-player mode, which introduces an all-new character: Iden Versio. As the official website for the Battlefront II explains, Iden is a “commander... Read more...
If you've been itchin' for a chance to strap in and take part in a head-on assault against the Death Star, now is your chance. The latest DLC for Star Wars Battlefront is nearing release, and it gives you a chance to take down the heavily armored space station that has enough power to destroy an entire planet.  “Battle Station” is the latest game type in Star Wars Battlefront. The battle ends when one of the teams heads down to the trenches and blows the Death Star up. There... Read more...
Battlefield 1 opened to public beta testers back on August 31st, and it’s been a whirlwind ride for gamers, developer DICE, and publisher Electronic Arts. The reviews for the beta have been overwhelmingly positive, with many saying that it harks back to the original Battlefield 1942 title, and first and foremost emphasizes having fun over managing intricate weapon load outs or battling it out in future dystopian lands. The back to basics approach has paid off, as DICE says that the Battlefield 1 beta was the “biggest beta in EA’s history”. A number of impressive stats were tossed out via an infographic... Gamers are understandably pumped for Battlefield 1. While other games of its ilk often look far into the future, Battlefield 1 returns to its historic roots (anyone remember the original Battlefield 1942) by setting World War I as the backdrop for gamers. And for those that want to get a head start on the action, the public beta is now available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. While the reception to early trailers for Battlefield 1 has for the most part been positive — which is the exact opposite of what occurred with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare — we’re pleasantly surprised to see that... If you’ve been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Battlefield 1 and have salivated over gameplay footage from alpha build of the game, the wait is nearly over. Electronic Arts announced today that the public beta for Battlefield 1 will officially open its doors to all on August 31st on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Better yet, if you join the Battlefield Insider program — which is free to join — you can access the beta ten days earlier on August 21st. While the beta will of course be extremely limited in scope compared to what will be available in the final game, you will have access to Conquest... Read more...
It’s a great time to be a console gamer. There are plenty of hot titles that have recently been released or are on the horizon, Microsoft just rolled out its Xbox One S, Sony will soon be dropping the PlayStation 4 Neo, and virtual reality is coming to current generation Sony consoles via the PlayStation VR. Needless to say, the folks at Electronic Arts are delighted about these latest developments in the console market. The company is confident that it can deliver games that will not only look great on current generation hardware (like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4), but will also take advantage... Read more...
Fans of the original Mirror's Edge will be happy to hear that a follow-up title is in the works, dubbed Mirror's Edge Catalyst. ME Catalyst revisits the dystopian world of the original game with a fresh new story that expands on the origins of protagonist Faith Connors. The beta test just wrapped up last week. It offered a brief window into the look and feel of ME Catalyst, which is the unofficial reboot of the original 2008 parkour adventure from developer EA DICE. Back then, while known primarily for their success with the Battlefield franchise, EA DICE gambled on something completely new with... Read more...
