The map keeps with the "Meltdown" title for the third season, which will launch on October 1st. Season 3 sees the Apex Legends crew heading to Planet Talos from Planet Solace. EA doesn't have the most stellar of reputations in the gaming community and it is known for squeezing every possible penny out of gamers with very expensive microtransactions. One such money grab has landed EA a dubious distinction in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most downvoted comment on Reddit. The comment that earned EA the world record was one posted about the videogame Star Wars Battlefront II that launched in 2017. The official post from EA that inspired the record-setting 683,000 downvotes had to do with the microtransaction hell that EA created for gamers who wanted to unlock iconic characters like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. Gamer backlash against EA was intense due... Read more...
The next event in Apex Legends is the Voidwalker themed, and will happen September 3rd through the 17th. The event will center on Wraith's past, and it will bring with it lots of content, including a new town takeover, a limited-time mode, challenges, and more. Voidwalker will also have a limited-time mode called Armed and Dangerous. The Armed and Dangerous limited-time mode limits available weapons to snipers and shotguns and loot is harder to come by. EA is asking Apex Legends players to keep a lookout for in-game surveys and to give feedback. It says the plan is to roll out more of these modes in the future. The Wraith Town Takeover starts with Syndicate construction crews uncovering part... Read more...
Gamers and fans of Apex Legends aren't at all happy with EA and Respawn Entertainment right now. The pricing structure for the skins and other items in the Iron Crown event has angered players and heaped ire onto the developers of the game. Players are angry because it costs about 700 Apex coins to open a loot box for the chance to get the skin you want. That means if you pay until you unlock all the cosmetics, it would cost you $154 and then you have the chance to buy the heirloom set for another 3500 coins. Respawn has made a statement about the Iron Crown event where it promises to rotate the legendary items that are exclusive to the game into the store, so players can buy them directly... Read more...

Apex Legends fans are not happy with EA and Respawn Entertainment thanks to high prices for that the loot being doled out in the current Iron Crown event. The problem that gamers have is in how Apex Legends has priced the items and how they are handed out.  It costs players about 700 Apex Coins to open each Iron Crown pack, which is about $7 in real-world cash. There are 24 Iron Crown packs in total, and only two can be earned via gameplay. That means for players who want to unlock all the loot available for the week Iron Crown runs, it will cost about 15,400 Apex Coins or about $154. Even if gamers don't want to unlock all the cosmetics, they still have to deal with loot boxes and a chance... Read more...
Loot boxes are the source of ire for many players who buy them, hoping to get good items that can help them progress in their favorite games. Loot boxes also make massive amounts of money for the game developers, but some lawmakers feel that the loot box is nothing but a form of gambling. Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft have announced that they will disclose loot box odds and some leading software makers are onboard. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has announced that the three major console makers will implement new policies that require the disclosure of loot box odds on all three platforms. That includes the Sony PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Xbox One. The odds disclosure... Read more...
Another day, another report on vulnerabilities in the software that many of us use on a daily basis. This time around, researchers from Check Point and CyberInt rallied together to detail a number of exploits that they discovered in the Origin client used to deliver games to consumers. Origin is an Electronic Arts property. What makes the latest Origin exploit rather dangerous is the fact that it does not require intervention from the user with respect to handing over their logins or passcode information. In this case, the exploit allows an attacker to steal tokens associated with oAuth Single Sign-On (SSO) and TRUST routines in place with the EA Games user login process. As a result, Check... Confession time: I'm an avid watcher of Judge Judy. I think she's rad, and her style of mediating disputes definitely falls into the 'firm but fair' category. One of her favorite sayings is, "Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining." That's also the title of her book, incidentally, and I'm reminded of it when watching Electronics Arts' Vice President of Legal, Kerry Hopkins, explain that loot boxes are actually just "surprise mechanics." According to Hopkins, Loot boxes (excuse me, surprise mechanics) are "quite ethical" too, akin to Hatchimals, the popular toy that delights kids with a plush toy hatching from a plastic egg. Or if you prefer, substitute Kinder Egg or LOL Surprise, which... Read more...
Apex Legends is an always-evolving game that continually has new content in the works to keep players happy. New content for Season 02 will land next month and will bring a new Legend called Wattson. About a month ago, a new update was teased that was going to bring with it new performance enhancements. Now something new has popped up in the game that has players excited: dragons. A video has turned up on Reddit that shows players jumping into the game to find a dragon, dubbed "flyers," circling overhead. Naturally, the player immediately runs to find a weapon and starts to shoot the dragon as it flies. We see the numbers popping up as the dragon takes damage. Eventually, the dragon drops some... Although Star War Jedi: Fallen Order was first announced back at E3 2018, we're getting our first real in-depth look at the game thanks to footage that Electronic Arts delivered today at E3 2019. As we already,Jedi: Fallen Order was developed by Respawn -- the same development studio being Titanfall and Apex Legends. The single-play Star Wars adventure centers on Cal Kestis, which managed to escape Order 66 (as portrayed in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith) and is currently on the run from The Empire’s Second Sister and a band of Purge Troopers. The footage seen in the 14-minute gameplay trailer below takes place on the Wookie planet Kashyyyk, where Kestis... Read more...
Everyone likes free video games, and if you lean towards the casual sort of game, you might remember EA's The Sims 4. The game has been around for what seems like forever, with the launch trailer for the title first surfacing back in 2013. EA has been working hard to release new updates for the game and expansion packs to keep players busy. Recently it launched content packs called Get Famous and Strangerville that bring new career options and terrain tools. The franchise is known for allowing players to live virtual lives inside the game and build homes while perfecting careers. EA is now offering the base game for free via Origin through May 28. One catch is that the major expansions Get Famous... Read more...
