“Microtransaction” is often considered a dirty word in the gaming community. Several developers have come under fire for unfriendly, and even predatory, practices. However, the controversy surrounding microstransactions will not prevent Electronic Arts from incorporating them into its games. Battlefield V will include microtransactions this upcoming January. According to a recent Amazon store listing, the microtransactions should be live January 18th, 2019. Players can already pre-order the “Battlefield Currency” for their Xbox One game. Prices range from $4.99 USD for 500... Read more...
Game developers and publishers aren't letting gamers get away with breaking NDAs surrounding the alpha and beta tests of games ahead of launch. Bethesda and Microsoft tag teamed a Fallout 76 NDA breaker back in October ahead of the game's launch after the beta participant recorded and posted a 90-second clip of himself playing the game. Something similar has allegedly happened to a participant in the alpha test of the anticipated EA and BioWare game Anthem. In this case a participant in the alpha for Anthem was live streaming his gameplay on Twitch, which is a violation of the NDA. Someone made... Read more...
Black Friday and Cyber Monday may have come and gone, but if you are still on the hunt for deals on console video games, Target has one for you. Target is offering Battlefield V on the PS4 and the Xbox One platforms for $29.99, which is a huge 50% discount off the regular $59.99 retail price. It's unusual to see a major AAA title like this discounted so heavily only two weeks post-launch. Battlefield V takes the franchise back to its WWII roots and introduces women in combat. That move angered some delicate Battlefield fans who cried foul, claiming it wrecked the historical accuracy of the game.... Read more...
There has been a lot of excitement brewing around Electronic Arts’ Battlefield V, and with good reason. The game has been held up as a showcase for NVIDIA’s RTX real-time ray-tracing, which looks absolutely amazing using graphics cards like the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. However, there’s more to Battlefield V than just fancy effects – it will also bring with it a new battle royale mode to keep things fresh for gamers. The new mode is called Firestorm, and it supports a maximum of 64 players. However, these 64 players will be split up into 16 squads, with four... Read more...

We are on the cusp of the era of real-time ray tracing in games. It effectively begins once NVIDIA starts shipping its GeForce RTX series cards based on the company's Turing GPU architecture, with dedicated Tensor and RT cores underneath the hood, but what kind of performance can we realistically expect? That depends on the situation. As you might already know, real-time ray tracing requires an enormous amount of horsepower. It deals with levels of detail that are beyond the scope of rasterization rendering, and can produce photorealistic visuals. To bring real-time ray tracing to games, companies... Read more...
You can rake in a boatload of money with a "free" game these days: all you need to do is look at the insane popularity and over a billion dollars in revenue that Fortnite has generated for proof. EA is one of the biggest game publishers on the planet and Battlefield is one of its biggest franchises. Battlefield V is coming, and it was confirmed in late May that the game would use a WWII setting.  One of the big questions that have been burning in the minds of gamers looking forward to Battlefield V is if the anticipated battle royale mode for the game would be free like Fortnite and PUBG.... E3 has kicked off and EA's press conference has gone down giving us an idea of what the publisher and its developers are working on. EA talked about some big games at the conference including a new Star Wars title, a sequel to Unravel, and a glimpse at the highly anticipated BioWare game Anthem that lands next February. We learned last week that Crackdown 3 for the Xbox had been delayed and is expected to launch in February as well. The rub with E3's conference for those hoping for something new is that all of the big games were already known. Perhaps the most anticipated game EA talked... Read more...
This week EA and DICE announced Battlefield V and gave up lots of details on the game with one of the most prominent differences between this game and others being the inclusion of female characters on the front lines. That fact led many gamers to complain about historical inaccuracies and problems with women in the WWII shooter. Battlefield V developer Oskar Gabrielson has now stepped up and is clearly laying down the law. He tweeted, "First, let me be clear about one thing. Player choice and female playable characters are here to stay." Gabrielson followed that up with, "We want Battlefield... Read more...

Microtransactions, for better or worse, have become a big business in the world of gaming. Ubisoft recently announced that its revenue from microtransactions now exceeds that of actual game sales. Electronic Arts isn't immune to this practice either, and has come under fire for nickel and diming customers to unlock fan-favorite heroes in Star Wars: Battlefront II. For example, the amount of credits necessary to unlock Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker stands at 60,000 credits. Actually completing the campaign "only" nets you 20,000 credits. In order to unlock these characters for "free", you have... Read more...
There's a new Star Wars movie on the horizon, and Electronic Arts (EA) is looking to leverage the hype surrounding that film to fuel a spectacular launch for Star Wars Battlefront II. Battlefront II is the follow-up to its 2015 predecessor, and EA wants you to know that this game is bigger, badder and loaded to the brim with content (something that was quite lacking with the original Star Wars Battlefront). EA has released a nearly 5-minute-long trailer for the game that is narrated by none other than John Boyega, one of the stars of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the upcoming Star Wars: The...
