Bungie is currently making changes to seasonal continuity, rewards, and the bounty system in Destiny 2. AMD is looking for a few good men and women to test out a new chipset driver that should help to resolve compatibility problems previously discovered between new Ryzen 3000 processors and Destiny 2. When enthusiasts first started taking delivery of their new Ryzen 3000 processors, they quickly vented that Destiny 2 would no longer run. First of all, AMD's Robert Hallock apologized or the inconvenience to the enthusiast community this week in a reddit post. "This is indeed something we caught after launch. Plain and simple: I'm sorry," said Hallock. "It is not a title that is in our standard test suite, as it's difficult to reliably benchmark." To that end, the new chipset driver is designed... Bungie has been showing off a new aspect to combat in Destiny 2 that came with the reveal of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep. When players are playing the game and have an enemy nearly defeated, and below a certain threshold, they can employ a final flurry with a new system of finishing moves. Finishing moves are just what they sound like, a final flourish move to finish off the enemy using fists or knives to send them flying. Bungie showed off finishing moves in the trailer for Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, but it hasn't given much in the way of details on how the new moves work. Bungie general manager Mark Noseworthy and franchise director Luke Smith did give some details on how the finishing moves system will... Read more...

Back at BlizzCon the other day, Bungie and Activision announced that Destiny 2 would be free to download to PC for the first half of November, and specifically until November 18. Anyone who claimed their copy by that deadline would own it forever. Why would Activision be interested in doing this? Microtransactions, of course! Giving a game away for free can prove lucrative, as we continue to see with Fortnite, the crazy-popular battle royale shooter that is generating boatloads of income for Epic Games through in-game purchases. Activision itself is no stranger to microtransactions and the wealth it can generate—the publisher collected some $4 billion from in-game purchases last year. Activision... Read more...
Have you been waiting for the right time to pounce on Destiny 2? Well, if you're ever going to take the plunge, now is the time to do it. Bungie and Activision announced at BlizzCon that Destiny 2 is free to download and play on PC, though you have to act relatively fast—it's a limited time offer that expires in a couple of weeks. Destiny 2 is free to grab for the first two weeks of November, effective now until November 18. The caveat is that you need a Battle.net account, of course, and the offer is good for anyone who does not already own the game. Those who do already own Destiny 2 will receive an exclusive in-game emblem marking the game's one-year anniversary. To be clear, this is... Read more...
Zotac is arguably the king of the hill when it comes to mini PCs and small form factor (SFF) computing, especially when you throw gaming into the mix. The company offers an extensive line of potent, pint-sized setups, some of which were on full display at the Consumer Electronics Show. But Zotac also dazzled passersby with some full-fledged custom gaming PCs and a really neat Destiny 2 case mod. It was an interesting way to show off its gear, and we make sure to take plenty of photos. We are kicking things off with the Destiny 2 case mod because, quite frankly, who doesn't appreciate a modded enclosure? Granted, case modding is out of Zotac's wheel house (and so are cases in general, at least... Read more...
Activision and Bungie have teamed up with Amazon to offer Destiny 2 players a new level of immersion, though not through virtual reality. Using a new Destiny 2 Ghost skill for Alexa, Amazon's AI-powered assistant, Destiny 2 gamers can bark out commands and verbally ask for tips from Ghost, the in-game AI companion. This new skill represents the first-ever Alexa voice integration in a live game experience. Using the new skill, players can say things like, "Alexa, ask Ghost to..." followed by a variety of questions and commands. Players can ask Ghost which friends are online, advice on what to do next, and to learn more about the world and characters ("Alexa, tell me who are the Red Legion"). They... Read more...
Many Destiny 2 gamers are not particularly happy with how the title turned out and they have been making a stink about it. Bungie caught a whiff and as a result has decided to cancel today's livestream showcasing the game's upcoming expansion, Curse of Osiris. It was to be the third and last livestream promoting the expansion, but instead Bungie is penning a blog post that will address the state of the game. "We had planned to conduct the final stream prior to the launch of 'Curse of Osiris' to show off some of the weapons and armor the expansion includes. Instead, we are investing all our efforts into delivering some higher priority information about Destiny 2. You’ll hear from studio... Read more...
Destiny 2 is a good lesson in making sure you don't let hype get the best of you. At its core, Destiny 2 is a solid game, but in many ways the game falls flat, leaving some more familiar with the series scratching their heads wondering what it was that Bungie was thinking. The list of minor gripes is too exhaustive for a simple post but  vocal veterans of the franchise are complaining about what the game should have been. In a couple of weeks, the game's first DLC, Curse of Osiris, is set to launch, and as usual, three livestreams are being held in the lead-up to the release, to help fill players in. Generally, this is very much appreciated, but given the current state of the game, its most... Read more...
Destiny 2 recently arrived on the PC, following its successful console launch on September 6 of this year. The original installment in the franchise was a console-exclusive title, despite petitions and pleading from PC gamers to port the title over to Windows. That makes Destiny 2 the first time PC gamers get to use their inner-Guardian to shoot, Sparrow-ride, and loot their way through Bungie’s open-word, action-RPG franchise. In Destiny 2, you are a “Guardian”, a mortal being who has been granted incredible abilities after receiving the Traveler’s Light. Choosing from three distinct class types, your task is to restore and protect Earth’s last safe city from hordes of alien races. To do... Read more...
Having wrapped up the Destiny 2 beta on PC yesterday, which Bungie called a "huge success," the developer decided it was time to talk about dates for the upcoming game's Endgame content. Bungie also confirmed that its servers will go live around the world starting at midnight on September 6, 2017. In anticipation of the launch, PlayStation 4 players who pre-ordered Destiny 2 can start pre-loading the game to their consoles right now. "After launch, there will be a few rituals and firsts that you might want to plan for as you ascend to orbit around the Destiny Endgame. Some of these activities will be ready and waiting as soon as you play your way through to them. Others will go live shortly thereafter,... Read more...
The official trailer for Destiny 2 already has us all jacked up for the game's release, but now that we have seen it running at 4K Ultra HD at a silky smooth 60 frames per second, we are chomping at the bit (or champing at the bit, if being grammatically correct—look it up) to spend some hands-on time with this multiplayer title. You can see it in 4K as well, courtesy of NVIDIA. With Activision and Bungie's blessing no doubt, NVIDIA posted a minute-long video to YouTube showing the forthcoming Destiny 2 beta for PC running in glorious 4K. It takes some serious PC horsepower to game at 4K, but if your system can handle it, you are welcome to play Destiny 2 at that resolution, and do so without... Read more...
It seems like the more time passes, the more caveats Bungie decides to add to its upcoming epic adventure game, Destiny 2. Through a new entry in Bungie's help database, we learn that Destiny 2 is going to be beyond fussy when it comes to things like overlays and screen captures. Bungie wants to make sure that people don't inject code into the game for the sake of cheating, so it's being extra careful. In the help entry, it's made clear that software that records as "Game Capture" will not work, which includes OBS (Open Broadcasting Software) and XSplit. The same tools appear to work fine as long as "Screen Capture" is chosen instead. That's a problem for those that like to play their games in... Read more...
While we have not taken a survey on the matter, we are pretty confident is saying Destiny 2 is one of the most anticipated games of the year. The wait is winding down, at least for the final release. In the meantime, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players already got a taste of the action during an early access beta run, which is now over. Now the same experience is headed to PC. "All told, this was the biggest Bungie beta ever, and we’re not even done running eager test subjects through the obstacle course," Bungie stated in a blog post. "We learned a lot about how we can improve the launch of Destiny 2—on consoles, at least. There will come a time for a public analysis of our findings. Before we... Read more...
Developer Bungie and publisher Activision is giving PlayStation 4 gamers who pre-ordered Destiny 2 first dibs on the early access beta that is rolling out today (perhaps already, by the time you read this). PS4 players will be able to hop into the beta starting at 10 AM Pacific (1 PM Eastern) and will have access to the main Homecoming campaign. PlayStation Plus members will also be able to play Strike: The Inverted Spire and Crucible: Countdown and Control game types. If you are an Xbox One console owner who pre-ordered Destiny 2, you will have to wait for your chance to join the early access beta, though not for long—the beta opens up tomorrow, July 19, at the same time. Like PS4 players, Xbox... Read more...
