Were just a few weeks away from Apple's big unveil for its iPhone 12/iPhone 12 Pro family, which means that the leaks are starting to come in at a faster pace. In recent days, we're learned that the smallest of the new phones will adopt the iPhone 12 mini branding, which is a first for the iPhone family. Today, however, we're getting some insight into the available storage capacities for the new smartphones, and it isn't looking good for those that had hoped that Apple would end it stingy ways. Although Jon Prosser has been hit or miss on recent Apple leaks, he's is indicating with confidence that the baseline iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 will come with just 64GB of storage standard. ... In addition to the new Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE, Apple today announced the all-new iPad Air. As we learned from previous leaks, the new iPad Air shares its overall design language with the more expensive iPad Pro. That means that there are minimal bezels all-around due to the lack of a Home button. Just as the leaks forecast, Touch ID, which was previously found within the Home button, has been moved to the top-mounted power button. The iPad Air also gains USB-C connectivity, which is another carryover from iPad Pro. Likewise, the iPad Air supports the second-generation Apple Pencil, which magnetically attaches to the side of the case (again, cribbed from the iPad Pro).... Read more...
We’re likely a month away (give or take a week) from the official unveil of Apple’s iPhone 12 family. Analysts are expecting for this to be a Super Cycle upgrade for customers, which means that Apple should see a big increase in sales year-over-year. So, why would there be an iPhone 12 Super Cycle? Well, we’re glad you asked. The iPhone 12 family is supposed to bring 1) an all-new design language, 2) the first 5G support in the iPhone range, and 3) a faster and more efficient A14 Bionic SoC. It’s that last point that is our primary focus today. Reliable leaker Komiya claims to have the inside track on A14 Bionic performance, and says that the new SoC... Read more...
Later today, Apple is widely reported to announce that it will be shifting its future Macs from Intel x86 architecture to Arm. This wouldn't be the first time that the folks in Cupertino have made a seismic shift in processors used for its computers, but the stakes are even higher this time around as these machines will be using Apple-designed hardware. Famed Apple leaker, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, is reporting that the first Macs to be powered by its own Arm-based processors will be a new 13-inch MacBook Pro and an all-new 24-inch iMac. Apple wouldn't be leaving Intel behind if there wasn't some big upside in store for it (and its customers). In this case, Apple will have even more control... Read more...
Apple shook up the mid-range smartphone market when it launched the second-generation iPhone SE earlier this year. What made the device so appealing – other than its $399 price -- was the fact that it featured a relatively compact design (as afforded by its 4.7-inch display) and a flagship-caliber A13 Bionic SoC (which is also found in the iPhone 11 family of smartphones). However, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 12 is going to be an even louder shout-out to those that lament the increasing dimensions of today’s flagship smartphones. We already knew that the cheapest iPhone 12 model would receive a 5.4-inch display, but the folks at EverythingApplePro have posted... Read more...
By now, we know pretty much all of the "rough details" concerning the incoming iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro family of smartphones. We've seen leaked renders, specs, and even hints at pricing for the smartphones. About all that is left is for Apple to actually reveal the devices to the public. Today, however, we're getting a fresh leak courtesy of Twitter user @Jin_Store, who claims to have gotten their hands on fresh molds for both entire iPhone 12 family. As is typically case when these molds are found in the wild, they are based on internal Apple schematics so that various third-party manufacturers can design and produce cases/accessories for the phones.  What the molds show is... Is it finally happening? After years and year of speculation and rumors, it looks as though we'll finally hear about Apple's official plans to make the transition to Arm CPU architecture for its Mac desktops and laptops later this month at WWDC 2020. This comes after we heard earlier this year that Apple's first Arm-powered Macs would arrive in 2021. The latest news comes from reliable leaker Mark Gurman, writing for Bloomberg. If Apple is indeed going to launch its first Arm Macs next year, the company's developers need ample time to get their apps ready for the architectural shift. This major shift has only occurred twice in Apple's history, with the Motorola to PowerPC switchover... Read more...
Apple's iPhone 12 family is perhaps the most highly anticipated smartphone launch of 2020. Apple typically announces its new iPhones in early September, and launches them by the end of the month (with a few exceptions). However, the COVID-19 pandemic has reportedly lengthened the gestation period of the new smartphones, leading to a delay in public availability for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. We've previously heard rumors about the launch delay, and that has seemingly been confirmed this week by Apple supplier Broadcom. Broadcom CEO Hock Tan stated this that one of its customers, a "large North American mobile phone" company, was experiencing a "major product cycle delay". Given its... Read more...
The rumormill has been working overtime when it comes to the iPhone 12 family, as this is about the time that leaks start coming more into focus as production gears up. This time around, we're getting some clarification on the smallest member of the upcoming iPhone 12 family: the 5.4-inch model. According to Filip Koroy of EverythingApplePro, he was "completely wrong on the size of the 5.4-inch" on his previous iPhone 12 renders, adding "ours was way too big". He went on to indicate that his latest mockups have been reimagined using dimensions from Japanese website Macotakara. According to Macotakara, the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will truly offer flagship performance in a pint-sized... Read more...
Apple earlier this month gave a short in the arm to its mid-range smartphone lineup with the iPhone SE. Putting a current-generation A13 Bionic SoC into the chassis of the popular iPhone 8 form-factor at the $399 price point has proven to be a popular move for the company. Now that the iPhone SE introduction has come and gone, everyone is turning their attention to how the upcoming iPhone 12 family with square up with respect to pricing and features. These will be the first smartphones from Apple with 5G connectivity, so many are rightfully concerned that we might see yet another price hike from Apple (as we've seen from Android OEMs like Samsung and OnePlus). That might not actually... Read more...
Apple was one of the first mainstream smartphones to adopt a notch with the iPhone X, after which is was quickly copied by Android OEMs. However, it looks as though Apple is finally getting with the times, and is looking for ways to minimize or completely get rid of the unsightly (and display real estate-robbing) notch. Let's Go Digital has uncovered Apple patent filings from December 2019 that show that the notch has been replaced by a thin bezel at the top of the display for the 2020 iPhone. While the bezel isn't as small as we've seen on some recent Android flagships, it is definitely much smaller than we’ve seen with previous Apple smartphones like the iPhone 8 (and its predecessors)....
