Since the start of COVID-19, people have been looking to get “out of the house” without actually going outside. As we enter the holiday season, VR can be an opportune way to do just that with minimal setup, depending on what you buy. The Oculus Quest 2 is Facebook’s standalone VR headset, and for under $400, you can get into the Quest 2 with the latest update that brings native 90Hz display support, a new fitness tracker, and more. When the Quest 2 first launched, the first significant thing promised was third-party apps getting 90Hz display support in the future. This promise was crucial to the experience of the Quest 2, as higher refresh rates make VR more palatable. With... Read more...
Early in September, Microsoft announced the looming end of support for Adobe Flash Player in the Edge browser as we close out 2020 into 2021. We are now creeping toward the end of 2020, and Flash is finally beginning to get the boot. Microsoft has released an update to remove Adobe Flash from Windows and prevent future reinstalls. Adobe Flash and Flash Player were once the rulers of the roost online. Content, games, ads, and more were all driven by Flash. It became incredibly popular and subsequently was targeted by malicious people. This made Flash a dangerous point of attack for millions of devices. As we wrote last month, “Couple that with poor performance on some machines, Adobe’s... Read more...

With the Origins update, Hello Games claims they are “breathing new life and variety into that universe in a significant way.” The first major part of this new life is new worlds and world generation. For many Windows 10 users, the point was reached long ago where there is little trust that the updates and hotfixes that the software giant puts out aren't going to cause new problems. With that in mind, it will be no surprise to many that the KB4535996 update that was released late last month is causing issues for some users.  Multiple users have posted to the Microsoft Answer Forum and the Feedback Hub reporting issues with the update. Some are reporting they are unable to install the KB4535996 update completely; the installation fails with generic error messages like 0x800f0922 and 0x80070003. One user reported that when trying to install KB4535996, it downloads to 100%, and the... Read more...
Gamers all around the world often wonder if the developers of big games even think about how large updates are and consider that the internal drives on consoles are only 1TB out of the box. Depending on what games you play, you may get only a few titles before disk space is full, and an external drive is needed. This week, a new update was launched for Modern Warfare, and the file size was a massive 51 GB on the PS4, 68GB on Xbox One, and 94GB on PC. Infinity Ward Devs are promising, however, that they are working on making updates as small as possible. It's not just the most recent update that is so large, only a couple weeks ago another patch was launched that was 53GB in size, the game itself... Read more...
Microsoft has launched a new cumulative update KB4532695 for Windows 10 that fixes some of the bugs that were introduced with the November 2019 Update. Specifically, the new Windows KB update fixes issues with File Explorer search that has made it unusable since the November update 1909. With that update, Microsft tired to integrate Windows Search into File Explorer. Since that update, there has been a myriad of issues plaguing Windows users like brief freezes and hanging issues in File Explorer. The search field would, at times, become inaccessible, and the search field wasn't able to right-click and paste as it could before the update. One big fix is that File Explorer will no longer freeze,... Read more...

Steam has a big problem, and the problem is that game sales on its store are down significantly. To combat the downtrend in game sales Steam has launched what it calls the Store Discovery Update. The update has algorithmic changes and bug fixes for the store to "be more precise and more diverse" in how games are represented to shoppers in the Recommendation feed. The tweaks that Steam is making also impact the "More Like This" and "Recommended for You" sections. Steam notes that before the tweaks were made, when shoppers looked at games in their recommended feed, they didn't see as many different games as Steam wanted. Steam also admits that it received lots of feedback that the "Recommended... Read more...
With Microsoft's own smartphone OS on its deathbed, the software giant is now focusing on Android and iOS devices. It's admittedly odd to see Microsoft making apps specifically for Android and iOS given that Apple and Google are two of its biggest rivals. Sources claim that Microsoft has been working on a new app for both iOS and Android devices called Microsoft Movies & TV. Currently, that app is only available on Windows-based devices like the PC, Xbox, and Windows 10 Mobile devices and supports content from the Microsoft Store. With a version of that app coming for iOS and Android, movie and TV fans with large catalogs of content purchased from Microsoft can finally free that content from... Read more...
