Samsung is close to releasing its Galaxy S21 series, and with it will come two system-on-chip (SoC) designs, depending on the territory. In certain markets like the US, the Galaxy S21 will arrive with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 processor sitting pretty inside, while in many other locations, Samsung injects its own Exynos hardware inside its flagship phones. In those locations, the Galaxy S21 will wield Samsung's Exynos 2100 SoC, and some leaked benchmarks give us an idea of what kind of performance it will deliver. In most instances, the Snapdragon variant of Samsung's flagship phones end up outperforming the Exynos counterparts. Will that trend continue when the Galaxy S21 arrives? Well, Qualcomm... The million dollar question in the mobile space is whether or not Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S21 handset will offer S-Pen support, like the Galaxy Note series. And there is a bonus question—will Samsung continue to crank out new generation Galaxy Note models, or is the Galaxy Note line expendable if S-Pen support arrives on the Galaxy S series? Thanks to a filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), we can answer one of those questions (feel free to send us a million bucks). Here it is—Samsung is definitely bringing S-Pen support to its next-generation Galaxy S21 family. Okay, almost definitely. Alright, alright, let's just say it is way more likely than not, based on... Samsung is bad at keeping secrets when it comes to its unreleased products. In the case of the upcoming Galaxy S21 family, we've pretty much already seen or read every detail about the smartphones before their rumored mid-January launch. Today, we're learning more about the Galaxy Buds Pro wireless earbuds that will be launching alongside the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 Ultra. This time around, the new Galaxy Buds Pro details come courtesy of the Galaxy Wearable app, which made an early appearance in the official Galaxy Store. The app includes renders of the Galaxy Buds Pro, confirming the previous color options that we’ve reported on: black, violet, and silver.  The... Read more...
Android fans are awaiting the arrival of Samsung's new flagship smartphone series, the Galaxy S21 series, and there is still no definitive release date set—rumor has it the Galaxy S21 family could be unveiled in January 2021, perhaps around the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) time frame. As we wait, a whole bunch of official looking press renders have leaked to the web. First let's talk about what is on tap from Samsung. If past leaks and rumors pan out, Samsung will launch three models, including the regular Galaxy S21 with a 6.2-inch display, a larger Galaxy S21 Plus with a 6.7-inch screen, and of course the big daddy of the bunch, the Galaxy S21 Ultra with a 6.8-inch screen, all three... Samsung's Galaxy S21 family of smartphones is reportedly launching around this time next month, which means that there will be a new line of accessories tagging along. One device that is a near-guarantee to arrive alongside the Galaxy S21 is the successor to the Galaxy Buds Live and Galaxy Buds+, which are reportedly called the Galaxy Buds Plus. The Galaxy Buds Pro are allegedly set to receive active noise cancellation technology to make them a prime competitor for the hugely popular Apple AirPods Pro. The Galaxy Buds Pro have already made an appearance at the FCC, confirming that their launch is right around the corner. The FCC documentation confirmed the Galaxy Buds Pro charging case will... For the past few months, we’ve all been writing obituaries for Galaxy Note family, which has been a towering presence in Samsung’s smartphone family for nearly a decade. It’s hard to fathom it now, but when the original Galaxy Note launched in 2011 with a 5.3-inch display, it was considered massive. But today, the current-generation Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is rocking a 6.9-inch display. Yesterday, Samsung didn’t do much to dispel those rumors, with Dr. TM Roh, Samsung’s mobile chief, stating in a blog post, “We’ve also been paying attention to people’s favorite aspects of the Galaxy Note experience and are excited to add some of its... As we wind down what little is left of 2020, Samsung's head of mobile, Dr. TM Roh, penned a blog post waxing poetic on the company's product portfolio and technological developments, like having "led the charge with 5G and changed the shape of the future with a series of foldable smartphones." He also discussed what is store for 2021, promising it will be an "epic new year" with more innovation. So, what can we expect? Let's start with the easy stuff. Dr. Roh said in no uncertain terms that foldable phones are here to stay. Or more precisely, he said Samsung will be expanding its portfolio of foldables, in an effort to make the category more accessible to everyone. This suggests to me that cheaper... Read more...
As technology matures, prices tend to decrease over time, leading to further growth. In 2020, Samsung dipped its toes once more into the folding phone market with high prices, but excellent specs and features on the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The price did limit the growth of the market, however, but if Samsung could bring prices down, perhaps we could see more foldables in the future? That is what analysts at Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) seem to think, and it would line up with past information. While foldables seem more like a novelty to most, it could be the future "standard" design of cell phones or mobile devices. This would especially be true if Samsung continues developing and pushing... Read more...
At CES 2019, Samsung unveiled a more consumer-friendly “Wall TV," which could have made its way to homes. It still packed the amazing MicroLED technology, came in a smaller form factor and remained modular. However, modularity could cause some issues for buying and setting up a screen such as a TV. Now, Samsung is tackling that issue with the unveiling of a 110” MicroLED prefabricated display for “stunning video, audio, and smart capabilities out of the box.” Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, reports that “consumers rely on their televisions for more functions than ever.” For leisure, work, or play, you may find yourself... There have been a bunch of Galaxy S21 teasers over the past several weeks and months, from renders highlighting the design to hands-on impressions that purport to detail some of the hardware and features of Samsung's upcoming flagship. The leaks and rumors are almost over, though, because the Galaxy S21 is launching next month. When it arrives, the US variant is likely to wield a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, as has been previously leaked. This is Qualcomm's latest flagship mobile processor that was recently shown off at an event. According to Qualcomm, the Kryo 680 CPU inside the Snapdragon 888 will deliver up to a 25 percent performance boost versus the Kryo 585 found in the Snapdragon... Read more...
We're fast approaching the launch of Samsung's next-generation Galaxy S21 family of smartphones, and unsurprisingly, details about the devices are coming more into focus. This time around, teasers for all three smartphones -- the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+ and the Galaxy S21 Ultra -- have all leaked. All three teasers are relatively short, but they confirm some critical details about the cameras on the smartphones and the overall design. The camera pod, which is better integrated and more stylish than before, houses three cameras on the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+. However, we see what looks to be at least four cameras on the back of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which is the flagship of the family.... Read more...
Qualcomm this week unveiled its next-gen Snapdragon 888 system-on-chip, a mighty slice of silicon that will power future flagship smartphones, and lo-and-behold there is already some leaked benchmark data highlighting the chip. As you might of guessed, the benchmark numbers reside over at Geekbench's database, a common destination for leaks. Part of what makes the Snapdragon 888 tick is its Kryo 680 CPU. According to Qualcomm, it delivers a 25 percent performance boost compared to the Kryo 585 CPU in the Snapdragon 865. It is based on Arm's powerful Cortex-X1 architecture and can hit clockspeeds of up to 2.84GHz. Additionally, it supports up to 16GB of LPDDR4x-2133 or LPDDR5-3200 memory. The... Read more...
Earlier this year, Samsung launched its Galaxy Buds Live with a bean-shaped design. They look like what Jack's mother chucked out the window, only to awaken and see a huge beanstalk sprawling from the ground and into the land of the giants. Well, Samsung's next-gen earbuds will see a return in the overall physical design to that of the original Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds+. In other words, the new earbuds will be more bulbous than the Galaxy Buds Live. Called the Galaxy Buds Pro, the wireless earbuds have not been officially announced or confirmed by Samsung yet, but recent leaks and rumors suggest a launch is imminent. That includes a regulatory filing with the Federal Communications Commission... Read more...
Have you ever saved $50,000 on anything, ever? I certainly never have before. However, if achieving that life goal is on your bucket list for some reason, good news folks—you can save a cool fifty-K on Samsung's massive 98-inch Q900 QLED TV. The only caveat is you also need to reach deep into your pocket and spend fifty-grand, to get that savings. Hey, $50,000 is a lot of money. But you know what? That budget won't even get you a 2020 Tesla Model S. Even if you were to put the entire pile of cash on a down payment, you would still end up owing over ten grand to pay it off. Or you could bring home 98 inches of 8K resolution bliss and shove it in your neighbor's face, who keeps bragging about... Read more...
Thank the stars above that prices on solid state drives (SSDs) are no longer stratospheric, having plummeted down to earth. Granted, the price-per-gigabyte ratio is still better on mechanical hard disk drive (HDD) storage, but SSDs are fast and attainable on a budget. Especially now—with Cyber Monday in view, Samsung's incredibly fast 970 Evo Plus and 980 Pro SSDs are on sale at Amazon. As we noted in our review of the 970 Evo Plus, this SSD line is optimized for speed in a big way. It is a worthy upgrade over the regular Evo line (read: non-Plus), with much faster write speeds—up to 3,300MB/s, versus 2,500MB/s. Rated sequential reads did not change, but were already blazing fast... Read more...
Here is a motto you might consider adopting—never buy a smartphone at full price. That is sometimes easier said than done when you are after the latest and greatest, but most models go on sale or are attached to pricing promotions fairly close to launch. Samsung has historically been pretty good about this, and as the Black Friday sales start rolling in, you can save big on the company's Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy S20 series. We reviewed the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G (shown above) a few months ago, and found it to be a powerful flagship with a gorgeous display, good battery life, and a premium feel, just as we have come to expect from top shelf phone models. And you can grab it for $1,049.99... Read more...
In October, we got to see what appeared to be renders of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S21. The renders showed off a design that represented an evolution of Samsung devices that came before it, so we were not entirely sure if they were real or not. Prominent leaker IceUniverse on Twitter found some evidence that leads us to believe that the Galaxy renders were indeed accurate. He has now tweeted out phone case renders that look exactly like the Galaxy S21 images from October. The main design feature that sets these renders apart is the stack of three cameras with the flash offset to the right. The only time we saw this design was with the October renders, so this must be the Samsung Galaxy... Read more...
Back in August, Samsung revealed the Galaxy Z Fold 2, which was a much-improved follow-up to the problematic, first-generation Galaxy Fold. Given that the Galaxy Z Fold 2 has been on the market for a few months, there is already talk about its inevitable successor, and there are new rumors streaming in about what kind of features it will have. South Korean news organization Ajou News claims that Samsung will launch the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in June, which is a few months earlier than its predecessor. According to the report, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will feature S Pen support, which is something that we've heard in previous leaks. There will also reportedly be a silo incorporated into the... Black Friday isn't even here yet, but we've already seen some pretty good deals on various electronic devices including smartphone (like yesterday's OnePlus deals). However, today we have a stellar deal on one of Samsung's popular new releases: the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE). The smartphone has an MSRP of $699, and has gone on sale for as little as $599 during the past month. However, today's deal sees the smartphone discounted by $150 from its regular price. That takes the smartphone down to a low $549. That pricing [via Amazon] extends to all available colors including Cloud Green, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Navy, Cloud Orange, Cloud Red, and Cloud White. Even better is the fact... Read more...
Everything is going 'smart' these days—watches, glasses, speakers, refrigerators, security cameras, and the list goes on. Now you can add PC monitors to the mix. Tapping one of the few untouched categories left, Samsung has introduced two smart monitors, the 32-inch M7 and 27-inch M5, which it is billing as the world's first do-it-all screens. What does that mean? Well, you can perform a wide variety of tasks on these displays. First and foremost, these are PC monitors with a 32-inch VA screen and 4K resolution (3840x2160) for the M7 model, and a 27-inch panel with a 1920x1080 resolution for the M5. Other core specifications include a 60Hz refresh rate, 8ms gray-to-gray (GtG) response time,... Read more...
The smartphone upgrade cycle never ends for any manufacturer, and Samsung is no exception to that rule. The world's biggest smartphone maker seems to be pushing up its release cadence in an effort to combat slumping sales and an onslaught of new phones from Apple. We've already heard that the Galaxy S21 series might break cover officially earlier than its usual springtime release schedule would indicate. Now we're learning more about the specs of each device in the lineup, and getting confirmation from multiple sources. Thanks to previous leaks from Twitter leaker @OnLeaks, we know that the Galaxy S21 family will come with Qualcomm's heretofore unannounced Snapdragon 875 SoC. Now the folks... Read more...
Since August, we have heard rumors about the next Galaxy devices from Samsung. The Galaxy S21 Ultra has had its alleged specs leaked, and S-Pen support rumors have been floating around as well. Now, well-known gadget leaker Ice Universe is on Twitter claiming, with 100% confidence, that the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra indeed supports the S Pen.  The S-Pen rumors date back to mid-summer when it was thought that the Galaxy S21 Ultra would gain the feature typically reserved for the Galaxy Note series. But if the mainline Galaxy S21 family is going to add support for the S-Pen, what would that mean for the Galaxy Note, which has traditionally been positioned just a little bit above the...
