Samsung's Galaxy Fold flagship smartphone officially launched during the Fall of 2019 after a lengthy delay due to problems with its display and hinge mechanism. Despite these setbacks, the Galaxy Fold was still quite a breakthrough device thanks to its flexible display and innovative form-factor. Samsung then followed that up with the Galaxy Z Flip, which is a portrait-style folding smartphone with a much more palatable price tag ($1,379 versus $1,980). Now, Samsung is rumored to be far along in development of a true successor to the original Galaxy Fold, and it will be appropriately called the Galaxy Fold 2. According to a report from SamMobile, the Galaxy Fold 2 carries... Read more...
Samsung’s original Galaxy Fold did a belly flop prior to its initial release in 2019 due to its under-engineered display and hinge mechanism. Samsung delayed the official launch and went back to rework both the display and the hinge, and finally released the revised version in late September 2019.  While Samsung is currently grabbing headlines with its sleek Galaxy Z Flip, a true successor to the Galaxy Fold is reportedly in the works. It’s allegedly being developed under the codename “Champ” and will be called the Galaxy Fold 2. According to Mac Weinbach of XDA-Developers, the Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to ditch the awkward notch on the current folding... Read more...
Well, what do we have here? I'll tell you—a leaked promo video for Samsung's upcoming Unpacked 2020 event, where the company will presumably unveil its next-generation Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Fold 2 handsets (and potentially some other devices). According to the promo, the event will take place on February 11, 2020. The Galaxy S20 is the rumored name for the successor to the Galaxy S10, though nothing has been confirmed. It is entirely possible that Samsung calls it the Galaxy S11. No matter what it ends up being called, it will be the next iteration of Samsung's Galaxy S family, and the leaked promo essentially confirms it is coming around the middle of February (or the announcement, at... There have been a lot of leaks that have spilled out regarding the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, and we've got yet another one today regarding the device's folding display. The current Galaxy Fold and competitors like the Huawei Mate X and Motorola Razr use a flexible plastic display in a day and age when most of us are used to more resilient Gorilla Glass. While the plastic allows the displays to flex, it is also susceptible to scratching and is less durable than glass. Samsung, however, might have tapped into the holy grail for folding displays for the Galaxy Fold 2 with an "ultra-thin glass cover" according to famed leaker Ice Universe. Not only would the glass be... Read more...
We've been hearing rumors about the next-generation, clamshell-style Galaxy Fold 2 for months, but now we're getting our first alleged “real life” look at the device in the flesh. The leak comes from well-known gadget sleuth Ice Universe, and it shows a device that looks remarkably similar to both Samsung's original concept and renders that have popped up on the web. On back of the smartphone we see a simpler design with a dual-camera pod that is flanked by a single LED flash. Also visible is a monochrome display which appears to show the time, date and battery percentage. This "cover display" is much smaller than the one found on the original Galaxy Fold. Moving... Updated 12/13/2019 @ 12:26pm Yesterday, it was reported that Samsung Electronics President Young Sohn declared that 1 million Galaxy Fold devices had been sold since its summer launch. That was quite an achievement for a phone priced at $1,980, but as it turns out, Sohn was mistaken. In a statement to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency, a Samsung representative said that Sohn's statement was inaccurate, ant that Galaxy Fold sales have not surpassed 1 million. In fact, the stated sales goal for Galaxy Fold through 2019 is 500,000 units. There is no indication as to whether Samsung has surpassed that goal yet. Our original story is below: Samsung's Galaxy Fold got off to a rocky start after... Read more...
The launch of Samsung's Galaxy S11 smartphone is fast approaching, and a fresh tweet from a reliable source claims to have inside information on when the smartphone will be officially revealed. According to Ice Universe, Samsung has penciled in a mid-February launch for the Galaxy S11 family. More specifically, Ice Universe says that the Galaxy S11 will be unveiled alongside the Galaxy Fold 2 on February 18th, 2020 in San Francisco. This date seems highly plausible, as the Galaxy S10 family and the Galaxy Fold launched on February 21st, 2019.  Rumors: Samsung Electronics is tentatively launching the Galaxy S11 series and clamshell foldable phones in San Francisco, USA on February... We are still in the early days of folding smartphones, with just the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X reaching the market so far in limited numbers. Those two devices will soon be joined by the Motorola Razr, which takes on a more pocketable portrait-style form-factor. The main problem with these first-generation devices -- besides their fragile hinge mechanisms -- is their exorbitant pricing. The Mate X retails for $2,600, while the Galaxy Fold is priced at $1,980. Samsung, however, hopes to make sticker shock a thing of the past with its second-generation folding smartphone. According to The Korea Herald, Samsung will first display its next-generation foldable smartphone alongside... Read more...
