Some new renders have surfaced that give us our best look yet at what the coming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 smartphone might look like. The images show the smartphone will come in Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze colors. Like the original, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 has a folding mechanism with a hinge on the side resembling a book. While the Z Fold 2 5G shares the same book-like folding mechanism as its predecessor, there are some significant changes for the new model. One big change for the second-generation model is the replacement of the notch on the outer and inner displays with punch-hole displays. The cover display also has significantly thinner bezels than the original device allowing for a larger... Read more...
Samsung’s 2020 “Galaxy Unpacked” event will soon be upon us, and the word on the street is that the Galaxy Z Fold 2will be making an appearance after all, following reports that it had been delayed. Confirmation of the device’s appearance at the online event comes from Samsung itself via a leaked render. Although the image is blurry, it does confirm a few things about the device. The eye-catching copper finish that we saw on the leaked Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has also been draped over the Galaxy Z Fold 2. In addition, the rectangular rear camera pod from the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra also has seemingly made the cut. Although we can only see... Read more...
We're roughly a month away from Samsung's next big "Unpacked" event, and the electronics giant is expected to launch a number of new products including the successor to the original Galaxy Fold. A new report is suggesting that Samsung is changing up the naming convention of the new device, and will call it the Galaxy Z Fold 2. That name doesn't exactly roll off the tongue with ease, but does align the new smartphone with the Galaxy Z Flip that launched earlier this year. According to SamMobile, this shift also meshes with comments from a Samsung spokesperson during the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip. At the time, the representative indicated that the "Z" moniker was chosen because “it intuitively... Read more...
Rumors have been swirling about a second generation Galaxy Fold 2 device for several months now. Unless it has all been a bunch of hogwash up to this point, the Galaxy Fold 2 will sport a bigger display than the first generation model. Hopefully it will arrive without the design hiccups as well, but either way, it is looking like the handset will bring a massive 7.7-inch screen to the table. For reference, the first (current) generation Galaxy Fold features a 4.6-inch display with a 1680x720 resolution when folded, and a 7.3.-inch screen with a 2152x1536 resolution when opened up. It also touts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processors, 12GB of RAM, 512GB of onboard storage, and either a 4,380 mAh... Read more...
Remember the Surface Duo? It was an interesting, folding dual-screen Android smartphone that Microsoft first showed off in October 2019. However, it's been a long 8 months since that unveil and it still hasn't been released. According to a tweet this week by Windows Central's Zac Bowden, Microsoft is pushing to get the Surface Duo out the door before Samsung launches its Galaxy Fold 2. That's probably a wise move, as the Surface Duo had pretty competitive specs when it was first announced, but it's falling behind the times as a "flagship" device for 2020. The Surface Duo reportedly features two 5.6-inch AMOLED displays that each have a resolution of 1800x1350.... Read more...
Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Fold 2 in August, which is fast approaching. The first-generation Galaxy Fold was probably more notable for its display failures, which required a retreat and rethink concerning the hinge mechanism and other critical design changes (for the sake of reliability).  However, Samsung is hoping to get things right fresh out of the gate with the Galaxy Fold 2, and a new report out of South Korea is shedding some light on what we can expect with regards to specs for the folding flagship. For starters, the folding display is said to increase in size from 7.3 inches (unfolded) to 7.7 inches with a resolution of 2213x1689. It's a relatively small... Read more...
Samsung's Galaxy Fold flagship smartphone officially launched during the Fall of 2019 after a lengthy delay due to problems with its display and hinge mechanism. Despite these setbacks, the Galaxy Fold was still quite a breakthrough device thanks to its flexible display and innovative form-factor. Samsung then followed that up with the Galaxy Z Flip, which is a portrait-style folding smartphone with a much more palatable price tag ($1,379 versus $1,980). Now, Samsung is rumored to be far along in development of a true successor to the original Galaxy Fold, and it will be appropriately called the Galaxy Fold 2. According to a report from SamMobile, the Galaxy Fold 2 carries... Read more...
Samsung’s original Galaxy Fold did a belly flop prior to its initial release in 2019 due to its under-engineered display and hinge mechanism. Samsung delayed the official launch and went back to rework both the display and the hinge, and finally released the revised version in late September 2019.  While Samsung is currently grabbing headlines with its sleek Galaxy Z Flip, a true successor to the Galaxy Fold is reportedly in the works. It’s allegedly being developed under the codename “Champ” and will be called the Galaxy Fold 2. According to Mac Weinbach of XDA-Developers, the Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to ditch the awkward notch on the current folding... Read more...
Well, what do we have here? I'll tell you—a leaked promo video for Samsung's upcoming Unpacked 2020 event, where the company will presumably unveil its next-generation Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Fold 2 handsets (and potentially some other devices). According to the promo, the event will take place on February 11, 2020. The Galaxy S20 is the rumored name for the successor to the Galaxy S10, though nothing has been confirmed. It is entirely possible that Samsung calls it the Galaxy S11. No matter what it ends up being called, it will be the next iteration of Samsung's Galaxy S family, and the leaked promo essentially confirms it is coming around the middle of February (or the announcement, at... There have been a lot of leaks that have spilled out regarding the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, and we've got yet another one today regarding the device's folding display. The current Galaxy Fold and competitors like the Huawei Mate X and Motorola Razr use a flexible plastic display in a day and age when most of us are used to more resilient Gorilla Glass. While the plastic allows the displays to flex, it is also susceptible to scratching and is less durable than glass. Samsung, however, might have tapped into the holy grail for folding displays for the Galaxy Fold 2 with an "ultra-thin glass cover" according to famed leaker Ice Universe. Not only would the glass be... Read more...
We've been hearing rumors about the next-generation, clamshell-style Galaxy Fold 2 for months, but now we're getting our first alleged “real life” look at the device in the flesh. The leak comes from well-known gadget sleuth Ice Universe, and it shows a device that looks remarkably similar to both Samsung's original concept and renders that have popped up on the web. On back of the smartphone we see a simpler design with a dual-camera pod that is flanked by a single LED flash. Also visible is a monochrome display which appears to show the time, date and battery percentage. This "cover display" is much smaller than the one found on the original Galaxy Fold. Moving... Updated 12/13/2019 @ 12:26pm Yesterday, it was reported that Samsung Electronics President Young Sohn declared that 1 million Galaxy Fold devices had been sold since its summer launch. That was quite an achievement for a phone priced at $1,980, but as it turns out, Sohn was mistaken. In a statement to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency, a Samsung representative said that Sohn's statement was inaccurate, ant that Galaxy Fold sales have not surpassed 1 million. In fact, the stated sales goal for Galaxy Fold through 2019 is 500,000 units. There is no indication as to whether Samsung has surpassed that goal yet. Our original story is below: Samsung's Galaxy Fold got off to a rocky start after... Read more...
The launch of Samsung's Galaxy S11 smartphone is fast approaching, and a fresh tweet from a reliable source claims to have inside information on when the smartphone will be officially revealed. According to Ice Universe, Samsung has penciled in a mid-February launch for the Galaxy S11 family. More specifically, Ice Universe says that the Galaxy S11 will be unveiled alongside the Galaxy Fold 2 on February 18th, 2020 in San Francisco. This date seems highly plausible, as the Galaxy S10 family and the Galaxy Fold launched on February 21st, 2019.  Rumors: Samsung Electronics is tentatively launching the Galaxy S11 series and clamshell foldable phones in San Francisco, USA on February... We are still in the early days of folding smartphones, with just the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X reaching the market so far in limited numbers. Those two devices will soon be joined by the Motorola Razr, which takes on a more pocketable portrait-style form-factor. The main problem with these first-generation devices -- besides their fragile hinge mechanisms -- is their exorbitant pricing. The Mate X retails for $2,600, while the Galaxy Fold is priced at $1,980. Samsung, however, hopes to make sticker shock a thing of the past with its second-generation folding smartphone. According to The Korea Herald, Samsung will first display its next-generation foldable smartphone alongside... Read more...
