Activision and Bungie have teamed up with Amazon to offer Destiny 2 players a new level of immersion, though not through virtual reality. Using a new Destiny 2 Ghost skill for Alexa, Amazon's AI-powered assistant, Destiny 2 gamers can bark out commands and verbally ask for tips from Ghost, the in-game AI companion. This new skill represents the first-ever Alexa voice integration in a live game experience. Using the new skill, players can say things like, "Alexa, ask Ghost to..." followed by a variety of questions and commands. Players can ask Ghost which friends are online, advice on what to do... Many Destiny 2 gamers are not particularly happy with how the title turned out and they have been making a stink about it. Bungie caught a whiff and as a result has decided to cancel today's livestream showcasing the game's upcoming expansion, Curse of Osiris. It was to be the third and last livestream promoting the expansion, but instead Bungie is penning a blog post that will address the state of the game. "We had planned to conduct the final stream prior to the launch of 'Curse of Osiris' to show off some of the weapons and armor the expansion includes. Instead, we are investing all our efforts... Destiny 2 is a good lesson in making sure you don't let hype get the best of you. At its core, Destiny 2 is a solid game, but in many ways the game falls flat, leaving some more familiar with the series scratching their heads wondering what it was that Bungie was thinking. The list of minor gripes is too exhaustive for a simple post but  vocal veterans of the franchise are complaining about what the game should have been. In a couple of weeks, the game's first DLC, Curse of Osiris, is set to launch, and as usual, three livestreams are being held in the lead-up to the release, to help fill... Read more...
Destiny 2 recently arrived on the PC, following its successful console launch on September 6 of this year. The original installment in the franchise was a console-exclusive title, despite petitions and pleading from PC gamers to port the title over to Windows. That makes Destiny 2 the first time PC gamers get to use their inner-Guardian to shoot, Sparrow-ride, and loot their way through Bungie’s open-word, action-RPG franchise. In Destiny 2, you are a “Guardian”, a mortal being who has been granted incredible abilities after receiving the Traveler’s Light. Choosing from three distinct class... Read more...
Having wrapped up the Destiny 2 beta on PC yesterday, which Bungie called a "huge success," the developer decided it was time to talk about dates for the upcoming game's Endgame content. Bungie also confirmed that its servers will go live around the world starting at midnight on September 6, 2017. In anticipation of the launch, PlayStation 4 players who pre-ordered Destiny 2 can start pre-loading the game to their consoles right now. "After launch, there will be a few rituals and firsts that you might want to plan for as you ascend to orbit around the Destiny Endgame. Some of these activities will... Read more...
The official trailer for Destiny 2 already has us all jacked up for the game's release, but now that we have seen it running at 4K Ultra HD at a silky smooth 60 frames per second, we are chomping at the bit (or champing at the bit, if being grammatically correct—look it up) to spend some hands-on time with this multiplayer title. You can see it in 4K as well, courtesy of NVIDIA. With Activision and Bungie's blessing no doubt, NVIDIA posted a minute-long video to YouTube showing the forthcoming Destiny 2 beta for PC running in glorious 4K. It takes some serious PC horsepower to game at 4K, but if... Read more...
It seems like the more time passes, the more caveats Bungie decides to add to its upcoming epic adventure game, Destiny 2. Through a new entry in Bungie's help database, we learn that Destiny 2 is going to be beyond fussy when it comes to things like overlays and screen captures. Bungie wants to make sure that people don't inject code into the game for the sake of cheating, so it's being extra careful. In the help entry, it's made clear that software that records as "Game Capture" will not work, which includes OBS (Open Broadcasting Software) and XSplit. The same tools appear to work fine as long... Read more...
While we have not taken a survey on the matter, we are pretty confident is saying Destiny 2 is one of the most anticipated games of the year. The wait is winding down, at least for the final release. In the meantime, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players already got a taste of the action during an early access beta run, which is now over. Now the same experience is headed to PC. "All told, this was the biggest Bungie beta ever, and we’re not even done running eager test subjects through the obstacle course," Bungie stated in a blog post. "We learned a lot about how we can improve the launch of Destiny... Read more...
Developer Bungie and publisher Activision is giving PlayStation 4 gamers who pre-ordered Destiny 2 first dibs on the early access beta that is rolling out today (perhaps already, by the time you read this). PS4 players will be able to hop into the beta starting at 10 AM Pacific (1 PM Eastern) and will have access to the main Homecoming campaign. PlayStation Plus members will also be able to play Strike: The Inverted Spire and Crucible: Countdown and Control game types. If you are an Xbox One console owner who pre-ordered Destiny 2, you will have to wait for your chance to join the early access... Read more...
If you're a Destiny fan who's been dreaming of the day when you'd be able to play Destiny 2 at a smooth 60 frames-per-second, you're going to be hugely disappointed to learn that's not going to happen - unless you play on the PC. #PCMasterRace? Not so fast...  As baffling as it is, Bungie has admitted that Destiny 2 even on the PlayStation 4 Pro would be hard locked to 30 FPS. This is despite the fact that games like Battlefield 1 look better than the original Destiny, yet manage to exceed 30 FPS on the original PS4. Rocket League? 60 FPS. The just-released Injustice 2? 60 FPS. But Bungie's... Read more...
There will be no more speculation on the matter, folks—Destiny 2 is indeed headed to the PC, developer Bungie has officially confirmed. It will also arrive on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, though that was never really in question. After the first Destiny game launched to both consoles as well as previous generation Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems, there was an uproar from the PC community for a port. A port never came, but even better, PC gamers will be able to play Destiny 2 on their preferred platform. "This is a new beginning for every player. We know you have questions about the worlds... Following months of intense anticipation, Destiny players can finally geek it up with the game's newest expansion: Rise of Iron. While it's been said that RoI is not quite as large as The Taken King was, players shouldn't be at a loss of things to do for quite a while. If you pushed hard to hit a Light Level of 335 prior to the launch of Rise of Iron, prepare to weep as it's now unimpressive. As of today, the maximum Light Level becomes 385, and as soon as Bungie decides to release the Heroic version of the new raid, it'll jump to 400. Speaking of raid, because no one is going to be an appropriate... Read more...
It's been a pretty interesting year for Destiny so far, for better or for worse. The year kicked off in a rather interesting way when Bungie's president Harold Ryan stepped down, being replaced by Pete Parsons, the company's former COO. The move caused a bit of concern among those in the Destiny community, but when the mammoth April update got pushed out, with its revamped Prison of Elders mode, increased Light Level, and the introduction of new items, it helped smooth over some concerns and gave the impression that things would be alright. Thankfully, nothing has changed since then. The future... Read more...
Bungie released the latest major Destiny expansion, The Taken King, about six months ago, and since then there's been little reason for advanced Guardians to keep on grinding. In December, we were treated to a cool racing mode called Sparrow Racing League, which offered 320 Light Level head/feet drops, and just this past Valentine's Day, a neat 2v2 PvP mode sweetened things up a well. Both the SRL and Valentine's Day modes were well-received overall, with many players hoping to see their return in the near-future. While Bungie hasn't admitted if (or when) those modes would come back, it has finally... Read more...
