Custom Radeon RX 5700 series boards have been arriving at a steady clip over the last few weeks. Some of the most commonly voiced concerns regarding AMD’s Radeon RX 5700 reference designs were the noise output and relatively high junction temperatures offered by the stock, blower-style cooler. Partner boards promised quieter, more robust cooling solutions, however, designed to address exactly those concerns. We took a look at the PowerColor Red Devil RX 5700 XT a couple of weeks back, and save for its wider footprint and slightly higher price, we found it to be an across-the-board upgrade over the reference design. Today, we bring you the second, all-custom Radeon RX 5700 XT to hit the... Read more...
Gears 5 officially drops on Tuesday, September 10th, but if you've got Xbox Ultimate Game Pass or Xbox Game Pass for PC you may have already played quite a bit of it. The newest Xbox One and PC exclusive launched for Microsoft's subscription service on Friday. The Coalition's newest Gears title brings with it a whole host of new graphical effects and HDR lighting to both the console and PC alike, thanks to the latest iteration of Epic's Unreal Engine 4. We took the PC version for a spin and spent some time testing how the latest Gears title runs.   Gears 5 features lots of details in the characters and architecture Microsoft entrusted its second-biggest exclusive franchise to The Coalition,... It seems like a great time to buy a shiny new monitor for a gaming PC. FreeSync 2-certified monitors are plentiful on the open market and multiple companies are actively pushing them out the door to fight for your hard-earned dollars. Since NVIDIA started supporting FreeSync earlier this year, both GeForce and Radeon owners can take full advantage of variable refresh rate goodness without paying the price premiums associated with buying certain displays with G-Sync modules inside. If you haven't already, the time is right to start shopping for a high-refresh-rate FreeSync display -- the affect on smoothness and tearing is stark and make modern gaming monitors a worthwhile investment.... NVIDIA dropped a hint that something “Super” was coming just prior to Computex and since then a handful of leaks have let the cat mostly out of the bag. Today, however, we can dispel the rumors, officially reveal what NVIDIA’s got coming down the pipeline, and show you exactly what NVIDIA’s Super branding is all about. NVIDIA is overhauling its Turing-based GeForce RTX line-up with an array of “Super” GPUs, specifically the GeForce RTX 2060 Super, RTX 2070 Super, and RTX 2080 Super. In the short term, like two days from now, the GeForce RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 Super will hit store shelves. The GeForce RTX 2080 Super is coming in a few weeks though, and... Read more...
The next installment in the Metro game series is here and for those not familiar, this game franchise is based on author Dmitry Glukhovsky's series of Metro novels that started with Metro 2033 back in 2005. As far as the written lore of the game is concerned, the first installment in the genre was Metro 2033, which was then followed by Metro Last Light (and Last Light Redux) and today we'll be looking at the latest release, Metro Exodus.    Like other releases in the Metro series, Metro Exodus follows a post-apocalyptic story line that takes place in the former Russian Federation, where the world has mostly been wiped out in a nuclear holocaust. Your character is Artyom, a... Read more...
Post launch, NVIDIA’s board partners ramped-up their custom GeForce RTX designs relatively quickly. It’s not uncommon for some of the larger, premiere partners to have custom cards ready on launch day, but with the GeForce GTX series, some of them had literally dozens of different cards at the ready. Gigabyte didn’t hit the ground running quite as hard as some others right on launch day, but WOW has the Taiwanese manufacturer since hit its strike and shipped a wide array of GeForce RTX cards. The company’s website lists no less than 26 GeForce RTX 20-series graphics cards, including everything from small form factor mini-ITX models, on up to factory-overclocked, water-cooled... We have seen a flurry of product launches over the past few months from Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA. While we get to reap the rewards of technology’s ever steady march of progress, their partners have been hard at work ensuring their offerings can withstand the ever increasing demands of bleeding-end hardware, and appeal to consumers at the same time. In this spirit, Gigabyte recently invited us to a launch event in Miami for its newest Aorus branded motherboards, graphics cards, and peripherals. Technically, everything Gigabyte showed us had already been announced, but the presentations did offer a glimpse into many of the engineering and marketing decisions the company has made in an... The staggered roll-out of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX series of graphics cards continues today with the release of the GeForce RTX 2070. NVIDIA and its partners are at the ready with a wide array of board designs at price points starting at $499. We’ve got a somewhat pricier, all-custom EVGA board on tap for you here that’s packing a dual-fan cooler, configurable RGB lighting, and interchangeable colored accents, the EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 XC. EVGA has a few RTX 2070 cards coming down the pipeline with various cooler configurations and clocks. The EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 XC is actually one of the tamer models, that’s clocked similarly to NVIDIA’s own Founder’s Edition.... Read more...
To date, NVIDIA has disclosed a number of details regarding its GeForce RTX series graphics cards, based on the bleeding-edge Turing GPU architecture. We covered NVIDIA’s official announcements direct from Gamescom, where high-level features like Ray Tracing, DLSS, NVLink, and pricing were initially revealed and followed up with a nice, long podcast chat with NVIDIA’s own Tom Petersen, during which a handful of interesting tid-bits were divulged. We were able to dive into the Turing architecture last week, where we detailed and explained what makes Turing tick in all of its brain-melting glory. Today though, we can finally reveal how the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and GeForce RTX 2080... Read more...
NVIDIA shook up the top of the graphics card market a couple of weeks back with the release of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. In its stock, Founder’s Edition form, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti proved to be the fastest consumer-class graphics card available, but that didn’t stop NVIDIA’s board partners from quickly announcing custom versions packing even more horsepower. Case in point: The beastly Gigabyte Aorus GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB we will be showing you here. The Gigabyte Aorus GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB is the first, fully-custom, factory-overclocked (and ready to rock) GTX 1080 Ti to hit the lab, and we’ve just finished putting it through its paces.Gigabyte has tweaked and modified virtually every... Gigabyte, Corsair and Intel held a press event in California on June 30th to show off some of their new hardware. Though Intel just talked broadly about its thoughts on the PC gaming market (it's growing, and they are committed to it, basically), Gigabyte and Corsair both demo'd high-end gear it first unveiled at Computex. We were on-hand to check everything out, and have the details lined up for you here. First up, we have some video of many of the products... IntelIntel didn't have anything new to show, but wanted to reiterate its commitment to the PC gaming and high-end desktop spaces, as evidenced by its new Broadwell-E platform. Intel's Desktop Director, Heath Winston, spoke about the growth... Read more...
Although the $999 GeForce GTX Titan X is currently the King of the single-GPU hill, NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 980 Ti is the far more palatable option for most hardcore enthusiasts, due to its lower $649 starting price point. As we showed you in our initial coverage of the GeForce GTX 980 Ti, however, the card is still a monster in terms of performance. It typically outpaces AMD’s flagship Radeon R9 Fury X (at least with DX11 titles) and it finishes only a few percentage points behind the much pricier Titan X.NVIDIA’s partners have also taken the GeForce GTX 980 Ti and morphed it into something even more powerful, thanks to their custom cooling solutions and factory overclocks. Virtually all of NVIDIA’s... Read more...
We already know a lot about the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960. In our launch coverage of the GPU we noted, “The GeForce GTX 960’s low-power characteristics, beefed up video engine, and overclocking headroom, in addition to support for technologies like NVIDIA’s Voxel Global Illumination (VXGI), Multi-Frame sampled AA (MFAA), Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR), and DX12,l make the card a compelling choice.” The GTX 960 is an excellent choice for MOBA gamers or gamers running single displays at resolution of 1080P, or below but at high image quality settings. The GeForce GTX 960 also happens to be a very power efficient GPU, that’s doesn’t need a ton of cooling and most cards require only a single supplemental... Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto series has been wildly successful for many years now, offering some of the edgiest story lines, game play tactics and objectives the gaming industry has ever seen. With psychopathic main characters, you are left in the depraved communities of Los Santos and Blaine County, to walk a path few would dare choose in real life, committing nefarious acts, robbing and pillaging to complete your objectives. In short, it's rather entertaining that you're tasked with leaving a virtual world worse off than you found it, consequences be damned. But if you're reading this, you're probably well aware of this game's much maligned story line, and the fact that it's one of the most... Read more...
