Back in April, Rockstar Games announced that Grand Theft Auto V would be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms. One thing many fans of highly anticipated games look forward to is the beta access. Getting the opportunity to play, test, and provide feedback on the game is one that many enjoy participating in. But, as usual, there are those that try to take advantage of a consumer’s enthusiasm and Rockstar Games is warning fans not to fall for any beta scams. Considering the popularity of GTA V, which was able to generate $800 million in sales within the first 24 hours of release, it is no surprise that scammers would try to capitalize on that success and anticipation of... Back in July, Lindsay Lohan filed a lawsuit against Grand Theft Auto V developer Rockstar Games. In her lawsuit, the actress claimed that a GTA V character named Lacey Jonas resembled her in looks and shared a similar voice. Now, Lohan has filed a 67-page complaint, an amended version of the original 10-page complaint, against publisher Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games for using her likeness. The complaint features 45 pages of pictorial evidence that includes a picture of one of the game discs that shows a blonde woman wearing a red bikini and making a peace sign that supposedly bears a resemblance to the actress. The complaint states that the publisher “used a look-a-like model... Read more...
Back in June, Rockstar Games confirmed that it was developing Grand Theft Auto V for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms. Now we know when it is coming out. For those who own the Xbox One or PS4 will be able to purchase GTA V on November 18. Unfortunately for PC gamers, the PC version will not be available until January 27, 2015. The next-gen version of the insanely successful game, which boasted $1 billion in sales within its first three days, has received an upgrade to its visual and technical aspects. It features increased draw distances, higher resolutions, and enhanced weather effects. There will also be new activities, new weapons, new vehicles, more wildlife, heavier traffic,... Read more...
One of these days, we're going to post an article declaring that Grand Theft Auto V is finally available for PC. Unfortunately today is not that day. However, Rockstar Games isn't just sitting around idle -- we've seen a handful of game patches released in the last few months, and there's yet another available that adds some new items and fixes a bunch of bugs. GTAV title update 1.11 adds new clothing to the clothes store, new tattoo options, four new hairstyles (two male and two female), some new masks, green and purple tire smoke colors, new vehicles (Grotti Turismo R, Dinka Jester, Albany Alpha, and Buckingham Vestra), new weapons (heavy pistol and special carbine), and three celebrations... The latest patch for Grand Theft Auto V spices things up with some special Valentine's Day DLC, including new weapons, vehicles, jobs, and attire. Among the new clothing options you'll find double breasted suits and 1920s flapper dresses, as well the ability to "bare it all in sexy undergarments" and masquerade masks. For the more conservative among you, Rockstar Games also added new novelty t-shirts, hats, and other items available in stores throughout Los Santos. Dubbed "Valentine's Day Massacre Special," the free DLC applies to both the Story Mode and GTA Online. Coinciding with the DLC is a rather extensive patch that adds a new "Blow Kiss" celebration so you can spread the love to other... Read more...
When it comes to waiting for ports, mobile gamers sometimes have it worse than the PC crowd. How so? Consider that while PC gamers are chomping at the bit (or "champing," if you want to avoid a citation from the grammar police) to play Grand Theft Auto V on their platform of choice, mobile gamers are still waiting for GTA: San Andreas. Well, good news mobile users, your wait has almost come to an end. Rockstar Games today announced that San Andreas is headed to mobile devices next month. There aren't any screenshots to gawk at just yet, though Rockstar did say the mobile version will look better than any previous release. It will also feature brand new touch controls, contextual control options,... Read more...
Forget about all the patches and updates Rockstar Games has rolled out to date in order to get Grand Theft Auto Online up to snuff. The first real update -- one that's not intended to fix broken content, but introduce new gameplay -- is scheduled to arrive next week on Tuesday, November 19th, the developer announced. It's called Beach Bum and it will be automatically added to GTA Online through its next title update (version 1.06). Beach Bum will introduce a pair of new weapons to play with, including the compact (yet deadly) SNS Pistol and, for you street brawlers, a Broken Bottle for melee combat. Both will be available for free from any Ammu-Nation location in GTA Online, and once grabbed... Read more...
Rockstar Games has issued another patch for Grand Theft Auto Online, the online multiplayer portion of its popular Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) title for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles (be sure to read our review). The latest update fixes over a dozen issues with the game, including one for where the starting point for the tutorial race was not appearing. It also fixes a remaining issue where some people's vehicles or vehicle modifications were disappearing. Rockstar Games blamed the bug on cloud save failures, though after applying the latest patch, it should no longer be an issue, the developer claims. Here's a look at the full list of fixes and feature additions: Fixes numerous issues that... Read more...
The initial roll out of Grand Theft Auto V's online multiplayer mode wasn't as rocky as, say, SimCity's from earlier this year, though several "technical issues" did crop up that prevented players from enjoying the experience on the first day, and even a little while longer. Even though Rockstar Games warned that there would be growing pains, the developer is sympathetic to what gamers had to endure and has decided to reward them handsomely for their patience. How does half a million dollars of in-game currency strike your fancy? That's a lot of loot, and it's exactly what every online player who has played or will play Grand Theft Auto Online this month will receive, starting as early as next... Read more...
Rockstar Games on Friday announced that the latest title update for the online component of Grand Theft Auto V is live for PlayStation 3, while the developer is working to have another patch available for Xbox 360 gamers "as soon as possible today." The second patch is intended to address a "variety of technical difficulties" associated with online play. Gamers eagerly anticipated the launch of GTA Online, though the developer warned last week that the initial rollout might suffer from some "teething problems," and that's turned out to be true. For PS3 gamers, a PlayStation Network issue was limiting the amount of possible concurrent users, thereby preventing most players from accessing GTA Online.... Read more...
Today is a big day for Rockstar Games and its super popular Grand Theft Auto franchise. Grand Theft Auto Online goes live today, marking the first time the franchise will have an online multiplayer component. Hours before the launch, Rockstar Games decided to post several more details about online gameplay and what you can expect. First and foremost, access to GTA Online is free with your copy of Grand Theft Auto V (be sure to read our review of the game). You just need to download a small "Title Update" via PlayStation Network or Xbox Live, which will unlock the online component in the GTA V menu. You'll then be able to jump into GTA Online using the fourth (bottom) slot in your GTA V character... Read more...
Let me state right off the bat that I'm primarily a PC gamer. You might not know it if you set foot in my living room, where you'll find an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii all jockeying for attention in my home theater rack, but outside of sports titles and the occasional party-type game played through the Kinect, I play games on a PC. I bring this up because Grand Theft Auto V isn't yet available for the PC, marking one of the title's few shortcomings in what's otherwise an engaging, open world with a connected storyline that's masterfully woven through the perspective of three playable characters, each with different skill sets and personalities. It's also relevant to understand my... Read more...
For one reason or another, it's fair to say that the majority of people in real life would never cross the moral lines that Rockstar Games presents in Grand Theft Auto V. Some would (and do), but by and large, we're not all running around jacking cars, robbing jewelery stores, trafficking drugs and weapons, beating up random pedestrians, and so forth. But put those elements in a game and what you have is a cash cow. The latest installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise soared past $1 billion in worldwide retail sales during its first three days of availability, publisher Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. announced. While a little fact checking is in order, Take-Two believes this represents... Read more...
Is there a bigger tease in the world than Rockstar Games? Not if you're a PC gamer. Again and again, Rockstar Games gropes the console community right in front of PC players by slow rolling game updates, screenshots, trailers, and other tantalizing tidbits for their platform right up until the launch of whichever Grand Theft Auto title it's working on. This time it was Grand Theft Auto V, one of the biggest releases of 2013, and like previous versions, there's no PC version at the outset. Even though previous games in the series have ended up on the PC, Rockstar has so far refused to acknowledge that a port is in the works. This has perhaps caused a bit of panic among PC gamers who would rather... Read more...
For better or worse, the Internet has made it nearly impossible to keep a secret these days. Just ask Rockstar Games, the developer of the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Despite a brilliant marketing strategy consisting of frequent but limited updates on the progress of Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V), arguably the most anticipated game of 2013, spoilers have come to light, though Rockstar Games isn't the one to blame. Back in August, hackers were able to decrypt certain elements of the game after downloading digital pre-order copies from Sony in Europe. Sony may have meant well -- serve up encrypted copies of the game beforehand and then dole out unlock codes the moment the game launches -- but on hindsight,... Read more...
The biggest, most expansive installment of the hugely popular Grand Theft Auto series is set to debut next week on September 17th, 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game consoles. This is easily one of the most highly anticipated titles of the year and could end up being the biggest entertainment launch of 2013. One of the numbers floating around the web is $292 million, which is how much Grand Theft Auto V is estimated to have cost to build and market. In anticipation of the upcoming launch, developer Rockstar Games released a bunch of new screenshots. Since the game was announced last year, Rockstar Games has been trickling out teasers in the form of screenshots, trailers, and blog posts.... Read more...
Consider Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto franchise a guilty pleasure, and we're willing to admit we're looking forward to the next major installment, Grand Theft Auto V. Unless something went terribly wrong in the design phase, you can expect more in-game violence and blatantly illicit jobs set in the franchise's biggest open world to date, which will task us with running around doing things that we'd never do in real life (for the most part, anyway. As if gamers weren't already looking forward to GTA V's release, Rockstar Games has begun accepting pre-orders and is tossing in extra goodies at each tier. There are three versions to choose from: Standard Edition, Special Edition, and Collector's... Read more...
Like an unexpected kick to the groin (as if those unfortunate incidents are ever expected), Rockstar Games today announced that its highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V game won't ship in Spring as originally intended. Instead, it's being delayed about four months and, barring any further setbacks, will debut on September 17, 2013. "We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time," Rockstar Games said in a statement. "GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly,... Read more...
If you haven't soiled your drawers lately, you're not a PC gamer. There's simply been too much to get overly excited about, even if the finished product didn't ultimately live up to expectations (Rage, anyone?). Batman: Arkham City, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, and as of this afternoon, the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto V by Rockstar Games. The fifth installed rolls the GTA franchise back to California where sunshine and palm trees are in oversupply. Check out the official trailer below. The short 1 minute 25 second trailer doesn't reveal too much about the plot or upcoming game, though it's clearly the best looking GTA game to date (no surprise there), and it looks like you might get to control...
