Electronic Arts had gamer hopes high when it first announced the Anthem. Those hopes were smashed for many players when the launch of the high-profile game was botched, leaving the game broken and gamers unhappy with what was delivered. Anthem is now moving into The Vault, meaning it is playable in its basic version for those with subscriptions to EA Access or Origin Access Basic. Anthem Standard Edition can be played as much as the players want, as long as the subscription is maintained. Players will get access to the Ranger, Interceptor, Colossus, and Storm javelins. EA is also giving some tips to new players of the game, suggesting that players will want to check out the quick start guide... Read more...
The EVO series is a member of Origin's thin-and-light family of gaming laptops. The words "thin-and-light" aren't often used when describing powerful gaming laptops, but considering Origin PC has managed to squeeze both an Intel 9th generation 6-core processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX series GPU into the EVO17-S, a machine that is less than an inch thick, the moniker fits. However, at about 6.6lbs the machine isn't exactly light either, though we digress... The Intel Core i7-9750H inside this gaming laptop is a high-end mobile processor that’s based on the Coffee Lake architecture (2019 refresh, CFL-HR). The processor clocks in between 2.6GHz and 4.5GHz and can execute up to twelve... Read more...
Another day, another report on vulnerabilities in the software that many of us use on a daily basis. This time around, researchers from Check Point and CyberInt rallied together to detail a number of exploits that they discovered in the Origin client used to deliver games to consumers. Origin is an Electronic Arts property. What makes the latest Origin exploit rather dangerous is the fact that it does not require intervention from the user with respect to handing over their logins or passcode information. In this case, the exploit allows an attacker to steal tokens associated with oAuth Single Sign-On (SSO) and TRUST routines in place with the EA Games user login process. As a result, Check... Everyone likes free video games, and if you lean towards the casual sort of game, you might remember EA's The Sims 4. The game has been around for what seems like forever, with the launch trailer for the title first surfacing back in 2013. EA has been working hard to release new updates for the game and expansion packs to keep players busy. Recently it launched content packs called Get Famous and Strangerville that bring new career options and terrain tools. The franchise is known for allowing players to live virtual lives inside the game and build homes while perfecting careers. EA is now offering the base game for free via Origin through May 28. One catch is that the major expansions Get Famous... Read more...
Apex Legends has been a massive success for EA having surged to over 50 million players in a month, and the game is putting immense pressure on its battle royale rival, Fortnite. A leak earlier this week claimed that a new character was coming to the game called Octane. And another fresh leak via Origin, the EA game store, has given weight to that previous rumor with the same original art for the Octane character on the landing page. The Origin leak didn't tip a specific launch date for Octane, or the associated Season 1 Battle Pass for the game. However, if the landing page is being tweaked and readied, the launch must be close. Some expected that the battle pass would land yesterday, March... Read more...
NVIDIA's Max-Q technology has only been on the market for about a year, but in that time quite few OEMs have jumped on the bandwagon. And for good reason. Max-Q is, or wants to be, the answer to a problem that has plagued mobile gamers since the first gaming laptop was birthed, spanked, and shipped off into the real world. We are, of course, talking about size. Bigger is not always better, especially in the mobile computing market. Most gaming laptops are bulky, heavy, and short on battery life. With Max-Q, NVIDIA is looking to change this by focusing on what they call the sweet spot when it comes to performance, power usage, and acoustics.  In order to achieve this "sweet spot" NVIDIA has... Fans of EA games have been able to subscribe to Origin Access for a quite some time. That basic membership costs $4.99 monthly or $29.99 per year. In return, players got a collection of 122 games they could play at any time. Subscribers also get to try new EA games before they launch and save 10% on purchases via Origin. EA will be launching a fancier tier of that service come July 30. The new tier will be called Origin Access Premiere and it will share the all-you-can-play model that the original service, now to be called basic, plus you get more. An EA Help page reads, "Premier is a new membership tier that gives you access to the latest and greatest EA games before anyone else. You get access... Read more...
It's no longer a surprise when we hear about brand-new game releases being cracked days after launch, but it's not often we hear about one fully cracked even before its release. Unfortunately for Square Enix, its latest epic adventure Final Fantasy XV on Windows has been cracked and released online ahead of its March 6 release. If not for a couple of simple things, this wouldn't have happened, so we're bound to see things change a little bit going forward. Over at Origin, the game can be preloaded (FFXV is not an EA title, but is one of the rare ones to be sold on its service), and the fact that it preloads completely unencrypted is where Square Enix got burned. But only because it was kind enough... Read more...

There's no end to the marching at CES 2018, but sore legs and stiff backs are a small price to pay to see innovation like the guys at Origin PC have on tap. We kicked off our tour of their suite with their newly redesigned MILLENIUM PC. The MILLENIUM's chassis features beautiful tempered glass panels on both sides, that swing open with ease thanks to a magnetic release - that's right, no fumbling with thumb screws here. The front panel is constructed from the same milled aluminum that comprises the rest of the chassis which is to say it feels great and durable. Following years of anticipation, BioWare's latest epic, Mass Effect: Andromeda, has just launched. As with all Mass Effect games, Andromeda is ambitious, complex, and rewarding, so expect to sink dozens of hours into it at the very least. Andromeda marks a brand-new chapter for the Mass Effect series, with this game's story mostly disjointed from the previous entries in the series. That was to be expected, as the ending of Mass Effect 3 painted storytellers into a corner. If you haven't played the previous games, and are thus worried about diving into this one first, don't worry. This is a fresh start for everyone. Reviews for Andromeda have so far been mostly positive, although the game... Read more...

Consumers love freebies. Whether it’s buy one, get one free or just straight up free without any strings attached, people will often flock to a free offer. Such has been the case with Windows 10, which is being offered for free to Windows 7 and Windows 8 users. Origin also understands the value of “free”, as it is giving away yet another game via its “On The House” promotion. The latest game to be given away for free is Need for Speed Most Wanted. The open world racing game isn’t exactly hot stuff anymore, as it was first released in October 2012, which seems like ages ago in the PC world. “Hit jumps and shortcuts, switch cars, lie low or head for terrain that plays to your vehicle’s unique strengths,”... Electronic Arts has been in a giving mood lately. After discontinuing support for The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection last month, the publisher decided to give the game away at no cost through its Origin digital distribution service. And through its On-The-House program, EA has temporarily removed the price tags from several games, such as Peggle and Battlefield 3. Now Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger is up for grabs. Like previous titles that appeared on EA's On-The-House program, this one can disappear at any time, so pounce quickly if you want relive those awful cut scenes that we thought were the cat's meow back in the day. Once you claim the game, it's yours to keep until the end of time... Read more...
Good news, gamers! Electronic Arts has decided to donate The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection to anyone and everyone in need of a game to play. That's right -- the title is completely free, provided you claim your copy by July 31, 2014 at 10AM PDT. After that, the freebie promotion disappears, though it probably won't be the last time EA does something like this. So, that's the good news. And the bad? As you probably guessed, you have to claim and download the game through your Origin account. For some, that requirement is no big deal, but if you're turned off by EA's Origin service, this could be a deal killer. We suppose some of you might find that to be a string, but it's understandable that EA... Read more...

We’ve been eagerly anticipating the launch of Steam Machines ever since last year’s CES when we were limited to show floor scuttlebutt and a distant peek into Valve’s booth, where the company was holding partner meetings and (sort of) displaying Steam Machine prototypes. (Pictured: A total bummer) We’re thankfully done waiting to see what boutique gaming PC builders would come up with to run Valve’s SteamOS. We already got a whiff of Digital Storm’s cooking, and here are several more. CyberPowerPC Steam Machine CyberPowerPC has Steam Machines built on both AMD and Intel platforms, with “several configurations” for each that will be fully customizable.... Read more...
Few things are more frustrating than dropping a wad of hard earned cash on a video game only be to disappointed by the crappy graphics, botched controls, uninteresting storyline, or any other shortcoming. In most cases, you're stuck with the title whether you like it or not, especially in this age of digital downloads, but believe it or not, it's Electronic Arts that's pioneering a better way of doing business. Through EA's "Origin Great Game Guarantee," the games publisher promises you'll either enjoy the title you purchased and downloaded, or receive your money back, provided you let the company know in a timely manner. The Humble Origin Bundle headlined by Battlefield 3 and The Sims 3 (plus Starter Pack) is a raging success. At the time of this writing, over 81,600 bundles have been sold, effectively raising in the neighborhood of $3.9 million to be spread across various different charities, including the Human Rights Campaign, Watsi, San Francisco AIDS Foundation, American Cancer Society, and American Red Cross. That's quite a bit of money already and there are 13 days left to score some sweet games. The way it works is you set your own price for the bundle, based on what you think is fair and how generous you're feeling towards the above mentioned charities (you can allocate how much of funds goes to each...
